The night proceeds on with me residing up against a tree for a pillow. I lay facing towards her cabin and feel a small breeze pass through the air. The subtle hint of ash falls into play. This scent...they must be following.
I take off my bag set it in my place, then begin walking deeper into the forest. She will be fine until I get back. Placing my hands into my pockets, I occasionally look up and examine the area, and continue on. Fifteen or so minutes go into me walk until I don't see the lights from the cabin.
Turning back to my path I speak in a slight dominating tone of voice. "Mind explaining why you are following me?" I ask while looking straight into the darkness of the area. I know they are here because I feel the dark magic coiling around the terrain.
A small voice speaks out from above me. "Hm, maybe you should stop being so cocky, and you might get some answers."
Smiling I watch as a few leaves casually float in the air. However, there is no wind. I do a small jump and go up a substantial five feet into the air. This sonofabitch and his stupid powers. Landing I leap once more, but with more force, and land upon a thick tree branch.
A skinny pale skinned elf, with a light purple tint to him, stands before me. Damn dark elves and their skin tones make them admirable thieves in the night. This one has on a vest that would appear to be apart of a suit. With its velvet fabric and hand stitched designs going along the trim. He has on what seems like slacks with a thick leather belt. The moon was barely lighting up the place so I am going off of night vision. His hair is slicked back and ends in a small ponytail. Smiling he pulls out an apple off a tree and bites into it slowly. He is such a prissy little brat.
"Newton", I bluntly throw out his name. While looking around a bit. The rest must be hiding.
"Nathan", he speaks my name in the same manner, but with a mouth half full of the fruit. Still a rude little snob too. He hasn't changed a bit.
I hear the slight jingle of weapons a little further away and smile. A slimmer, slightly taller figure steps out from behind another tree. This one with a variety of weapons strapped to his back and various more on both of his sides. Spears, javelins, longswords, you name it. His hair is a bit jumbled mess, but he wears it kind of well, with it is tied back into a small pony tail as well. His color patterns nearly match Newton's.
I slightly turn to face him when another figure walks out, smiling amusingly in my direction. Her appearance resembles a bit of a battle mage. Although she holds no weapon on her. She waves casually at me and the sight of her hands gives me a clear understanding who she is. Her hands are a bit darker than they should be. Almost as if they were dipped and bathed in coals. Well that explains the smell of fire.
"Good to see you as well Ash and Victor." I nod at them and full turn towards Victor who has a smirk on his face.
"You are aware that you're traveling with a fae?" He raises an eyebrow as he pulls out a cigarette. He turns his head a bit towards Ash, she snaps her fingers at him, and a spark forms at the end and giving him a lite.
"I'm fully aware of my traveling company. Now back to what I asked you before. Why are you following us?"
"She has a bounty on her head, one issued by the Highlanders." Newton chuckles as he speaks and pulls out another apple.
I snatch it quickly from his hands and glare an eye in his direction. "Since when do you care about bounties and how much?"
Victor takes a step and floats towards me with his hands in his pockets. He takes a small puff of his cigarette and watches his landing. "Enough that Zeek is investigating to see who the source of the hit originates from."
"And enough that I promised not to burn down the entire forest to find you both." Ash giggles shyly from behind her cruel charred hands, while Victor rubs his temples out of annoyance.
Ash gets her name for being such a pyromaniac every five minutes. It once got so bad almost an entire town tried reporting her to an Admin to get her rehabilitated. The Admin fails and gives up. However, it changed her name permanently and alters her hands so everyone clearly knows who she is.
I turn back the way I came. "Is that so", I say as I loosen my coin pouch and check how much is in it. I tie it back tight then toss it slowly to Victor. Newton exhales heavily and the gravity goes back to normal.
Victor snatches the pouch from the air, before it begins to fall. He peeks inside as I speak up once more. "There's about twenty-five thousand gold in there. Take it and tell me who started the hit, also lay off of her."
Victor's attention snaps to me but remains calm as he speaks. "But you have heard what the Fae's nearly did? It would be an easy job taking her and the remaining Faes out." His eyes bead a bit in my direction, possibly to see my intent. I should leave before he digs any deeper. "What are you plotting Nathan?"
I turn away from them and smirk. "If that comes to it I'll deal with her personally, until then keep me in the loop. Also, I have a bit of business with this one. I'll be in touch." I leap out of the trees and begin to make my way back. "Remember Victor you owe me still. Count this as half of that debt. I'll cash in on the rest if the time arises."
I get a good bit of distance from them where I begin to walk at my normal pace. So the Fae are an endangered race. I should keep my guard up more than before.
No, boy. We must lower it to dive into her intentions. That way we may obtain a bit of leverage. She could become important to us. The wolf speaks up a bit in my head with his deep voice. A heavy wave of magic drops on top of me. The pressure alone nearly to pushes me down to my knees.
My breathing becomes kind of staggering as I try to rise up to my feet. "All you want is a mate. Keep it in your pants, then maybe we might find one. And then I might take said female as my own, until then go away." I bite out the words through gritted teeth, and force myself back to my feet.
You can't fight me forever boy! You will turn my desires into your own. The magic grows stronger for a second then vanishes in a split second. I brush away the sweat and slowly begin making my way back to camp.
Hey everyone, sorry for not updating in so long. Life is kind of stopping my progress, but I will be pushing out multiple chapters soon to make up for the time. Thank you all for your patience.
