A/N: There will be some mentions of blood, violence, and mentions of miscarriage in this one-shot. If you don't like that kinda stuff, skip this one.
*set in season 7 and if Emily didn't leave for Interpol and Emily and Hotch are together*
Hotch paced nervously back and forth in the hospital lobby. Although the rest of the team was in a nervous state, Hotch was especially so. He hadn't stopped pacing since they brought her into the hospital; he simply couldn't be at ease.
Rossi stood up and placed a hand on Hotch's shoulder. "Sit down for a bit, Aaron. You've been pacing for hours." Rossi said calmly.
"I-I can't. What if something goes wrong? What if she doesn't back?" Hotch asked in a nervous panic.

"You worthless bitch!" The unsub screamed slapping Emily across the face.
Emily winced as she spat out some blood from her mouth. She looked back up at the unsub with a small smirk. "You hit like a twelve year old girl." She said in a low voice.
The unsub walked behind Emily and grabbed her hair, pulling her head back as he held a knife to her throat. "I could cut out your throat right now." He whispered in her ear, gently running the sharp blade across her skin, cutting the side of Emily's neck. She let out a small whimper.
The brunette woman let out a chuckle. The unsub walked in front of her again, looking at her with a confused and angry expression. "You don't have the balls to kill me. Your partner did all the dirty work. You just stood there and watched."
Based on the profile the team had created, there were two unsubs. One of them was the aggressor while the other was the one who picked out the victims. They had the aggressor in custody, and it was just a matter of time before the team came for Emily. They knew where she was, but she had requested to go in alone to hopefully talk down the unsub. But instead she got a concussion and was now tied up in a basement.
Then out of nowhere the unsub punched Emily in the stomach hard. It knocked the wind out of her, causing her to cough hysterically and cough up a little blood as well. He kept punching her in the stomach, making her cough and eventually scream out in pain. Her dark red blood heavily speckled her clothes. The unsub slapped her again. Emily felt her lip split open.
When Emily left herself lose consciousness, she heard a door smash open. "FBI! Don't move!" Aaron's voice shouted.
"You're too late!" The unsub screamed before stabbing Emily in the abdomen.
"NO!" Aaron screamed.
Emily heard three gunshots before she gasped, staring down at the knife that had disappeared inside of her. She watched as the blood pooled out, spreading across her shirt. She felt herself getting tired as she let her eyes close.
"She suffered two bruised ribs, a couple lacerations to her face, and had massive blood loss. But she's stable." He said nodding.
Everyone let out a huge sigh of relief. Hotch was at a loss of words. He was so relieved he couldn't put it into words. "When can we see her?" JJ asked rubbing her hands together furiously with anticipation.
"Agent Prentiss needs her rest. You can see her the morning. You should all get some rest." The doctor said.
"Thank you Dr. Peterson." Hotch said shaking his hand.
"Of course." Dr. Peterson said before walking away.

The team was called into a meeting with Section Chief Cruz regarding the mission and Emily's safety and her choice to meet the unsub alone. The team defended her best they could, and Cruz let them off easy. The meeting went way long than expected, and they weren't able to visit Emily until that evening. However, she wasn't in the mood to see anyone, especially her boyfriend, Hotch.
The team eventually arrived at the hospital and walked to the front desk where several nurses were. "Can I help you?" A nurse asked kindly.
"We're looking for a patient. Emily Prentiss." Hotch said looking around.
The nurse typed on the computer for a moment. "I'm sorry. She's requested no visitors at this time." She said looking at the confused group of people.
"A-are you sure?" Spencer asked. "Visiting hours are open for another three hours and twenty-seven minutes."
"I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do." The nurse shrugged.
"We want to see her though!" Penelope pleaded.
The nurse looked at her computer screen confused slightly, then she looked back up at the team. "Which one of you is Aaron Hotchner?"
Hotch walked forward with a serious face. "Me." He said in a low voice.
"Come with me." She stood up from her chair. They walked the hall for a bit before the reached what Hotch assumed was Emily's door. "She hasn't spoken a word since she woke up this morning." The nurse said before leaving Hotch.
A thousand worried thoughts rushed through Hotch's mind. He wondered what had happened to her. He worried for her. He knew that she was strong; she always had been. He slowly opened the door and saw Emily laying in her hospital bed staring out the window. She hadn't even acknowledged him. Hotch sat down next to her on her bed.
He slowly reached for her hand, and as soon as it made contact, he saw tears well up in her eyes. His brow furrowed with concerned. "Emily, what's wrong?" He asked squeezing her hand gently.
Emily didn't respond. She quickly wiped away a fallen tear, but they keep coming. He put his finger under her chin, turning her face towards him. She immediately looked down with a sad and guilty look on her face. Then the brunette fell into Hotch's arms. He wrapped his arms around her, not knowing what else to do. He felt her shaking as she cried in his arms. She finally looked up. "They're gone, Aaron." She said, barely forming the words together. He didn't noticed how she grabbed her stomach.
"Who's gone?" He asked.
Emily sits up slightly, trying to stay strong. She soaked up her tears and managed to look her boyfriend in the eyes. "It was my decision to go in there. I thought I could handle the unsub. I can't believe I was so stupid." She said hanging her head.
"We had no idea our second unsub would turn violent. It wasn't in his profile." Hotch said trying to reassure her. He wasn't the best at this.
"That's not what I mean." She said quietly.
Hotch looked into her eyes with confusion and worry. "Then what is it?"
Emily inhaled deeply. "I was pregnant, Aaron. With our baby...and I lost it." Her head dipped down in shame.
Aaron was in shock. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. So many emotions were going through his mind, he could barely think clearly. One part of him was happy to hear that Emily was pregnant. He'd had multiple fantasies about starting a family with her, and it was something he'd wanted for almost as long as they had been together. Another part of him was filled with rage towards the unsub and himself, mostly himself. He was angry that he didn't push harder for Emily to stay behind; he was angry he let her go at all. And another part of him was extremely saddened by the news as well.
All he could do was hold Emily tighter in his arms. He rubbed small circles on her back. She wrapped her arms tightly around his torso, pulling him closer. She could hear his heartbeat and it soothed her. "I lost it, Aaron." Emily's voice cracked. "I killed our baby!"
"No you didn't. This is not your fault. Never think that." Aaron said holding her tighter, if that was even possible.
"But I volunteered to go talk to him."
"None of us could've known what the outcome would be, even if the profile was 100% correct."
Emily gently sobbed in Hotch's arms. He continued to hold her, feeling his shirt dampen from her tears. He gently rocked her back and forth, placing a kiss on the top of her head. "It's ok, Emily. We'll get through this. One step at a time."
