Wonwoo was sitting by the window in a coffee shop, sipping on his caramel frappucino that was way too sweet that he'd probably get diabetes from another cup. The drink just felt like it was a mixture of two ingredients, caramel and 250 grams of brown sugar, topping it up with whipped cream and a caramel drizzle.
He took a few glances at his watch every few minutes. He was looking outside, waiting for someone.
Ting~
The door of the coffee shop opened.
"Welcome!' The worker greeted with the signature wide smile that they give for every customer.
A man with brown hair came in. The man was wearing a brown coat that had two different patterns, divided directly in the middle where the buttons meet. He was also rocking the look with a brown beret that hugged his soft brown hair. Underneath the coat was a white shirt that pulled the overall soft monochromatic brown look.
"I'll get a Darjeeling." The man said, pointing out the tea at the back of the counter.
"Minghao!" Wonwoo waved at the man.
"Wonwoo!" The man walked up and sat on the seat in front of Wonwoo. "Sorry, I'm late. Something was up at work."
Minghao worked as a successful dancer and choreographer at a well-known dance academy. Dancing was always something he was passionate about ever since he was young. He's choreographed multiple songs for various K-Pop idols and idol groups.
"It's alright." Wonwoo smiled.
It's been a while since the two met up. After graduating from college, they ended up being busy and rarely had the time to meet up. Although, they did try their best to meet up every few months and were still connected through social media.
"What's that?" Minghao pointed at the drink that Wonwoo had. "I can sense the overwhelming sweetness from here. It looks fatal."
"I think it is." Wonwoo smirked. "What did you get?"
"Darjeeling tea." Minghao leaned back.
"Wow, are you trying to say that you're healthier than me?" Wonwoo raised an eyebrow.
"Well, we both know that thing-" He glanced at the sugary abomination. "-isn't exactly the best for you."
Wonwoo rolled his eyes, but laughed in the end.
A man came up with a tray with a tea set. "Here's the tea, sir." She placed down tea set on the table and left after a slight bow and huge smile "Enjoy."
"That beret guy was so my type." The man whispered to her coworker, but loud enough for the two boys to hear.
Wonwoo chuckled. "I think that dude likes you."
Minghao rolled his eyes. "Oh, please stop."
"What?" Wonwoo sipped on his drink, which he quickly regretted doing. "How's your love life?"
Minghao sighed, pouring the tea from the teapot onto his teacup, faint smoke coming out. "Can we not talk about this right now?"
"Minghao, you know that the wedding is in-"
"-Of course, I know." Minghao interrupted, slightly raising his voice. "I know, but..."
...But this was where the flashback ends.
"Seungkwan? Wonwoo?" A familiar voice had called the two boys who were standing outside the waiting room.
The two of them turned around too see if it was who they thought it was.
And yes, it was exactly who they thought it was.
There they saw a boy, filled with energy, who was basically sprinting towards them. It was easy to spot him with his full-white hair color. "Guys!"
He looks and sounds like he had too much caffiene and sugar to count.
Except the boy didn't have any at all. His energy was already this beaming without it. Just imagine the chaos if he had them.
"Soonyoung, be quiet! There are also other guests here." A short boy with black hair said.
Soonyoung turned back to face the the shorter boy. "Yes, Jihoon." He whispered loudly.
Jihoon rolled his eyes.
As the two closed the distance with the other two who was still standing there, they all fell into a hug, except for Jihoon. He wasn't a big fan of hugs or any type of skinship in general.
"Where are the others?" Jihoon asked.
"Oh, they're all inside." Seuungkwan said, gesturing towards the door near them.
Jihoon nodded.
"Why are you guys outside then?" Soonyoung asked.
"Just because." Wonwoo pushed his glasses up. "Let's go inside."
They opened the door and everyone was silent for the first two seconds, but eventually got up to greet the two new guests. They all tried to keep the mood warm and bright.
Probably because they were tired from the heavy and silent atmosohere around them.
And also because Soonyoung was here. He was always loud and bright everywhere he went. He made a lot of jokes most of the time and it made everyone feel comfortable.
"Wow, I haven't seen any of you in a while." Soonyoung gasped. "Jeonghan, you look like you're you from our highschool days.
"Hey, aren't you kind of like that too?" Jeonghan crossed his arms.
"Are you two doing a throwback moment today or something?" Seokmin snorted.
"My hair was silver back then! Now it's white." Soonyoung said, combing his fluffy white hair.
"So, is this like the stages of aging?" Mingyu teased.
"Hey, you're being disrespectful!" Soonyoung said, trying not to laugh. "Wow, Kim Mingyu, you're being really disrespectful right now."
"I-"
Chan tried to chime in on the tease. "Hyung, you shouldn't be disrespe-"
"-I wasn't!" Mingyu interrupted.
"Why are you interrupting our maknae when he wasn't finished talking?" Jeonghan said, trying to act serious.
(maknae = youngest)
"Kim Mingyu, why are you like that, huh?" Seungcheol said, trying to act intimidating by lifting his chin up, which doesn't work since Mingyu was 6'1.
"Bad Kim Mingyu." Seokmin pointed his finger towards him.
Chan put his hand on his chest.
The one moment when my opinions matter... when teasing Mingyu-hyung. It feels nice.
"He interrupted me first!" Mingyu explained. "Earlier he-" He fell into a frown. "Whatever." He plopped down back to the couch.
Everyone laughed loudly, while Mingyu was sitting there, frowning.
Soonyoung leaned in towards Jeonghan and whispered quietly. "But where's-"
"-Minghao's not here yet." Junhui said quietly.
Junhui could already tell that it was what Soonyoung was going to ask, even though he couldn't hear him whispering.
"S-Soonyoung, weren't you and Minghao working in the same agency?" Mingyu asked, deciding that not talking about Minghao and only staying silent, wasn't exactly doing anything for them. "Didn't you see each other yesterday?" A part of him was also in panic, as there was not much time left until the wedding starts.
"Uh, the thing is..." Soonyoung reached for his nape.
"Soonyoung didn't go to work yesterday." Jihoon shrugged. "He slept at my place."
"Oh..." Mingyu responded.
He didn't have much to say.
Actually, no. He had a lot he wanted to say, but his head was too much of a mess to actually process out what to say and what not to say. So, his best bet was to stay quiet.
Seungcheol sighed. "Did anyone try to call him?"
Wonwoo reached out for his phone. "I tried to call, but..."
He dialed in Minghao's number and called.
[The number you have dialed is unavailable. Please call again later.]
"I also tried, but it was the same thing." Seungkwan confessed quietly. "I left messages too, just to be sure."
Junhui sat down on the couch and rubbed his temples. He let out a sigh.
Was sighing and staying in an uncomfortable silence the trend these days?
Everyone seemed to be doing it an awful lot of times.
"But are we just gonna pretend like we don't know the reason why Minghao wouldn't want to be here in the first place?" Soonyoung finally spoke out. "Oh, right. It's just you who didn't know." Soonyoung said, looking at Junhui.
"Soonyoung." Wonwoo glared at the boy.
"What?" Junhui got up and walked closer to Soonyoung. "Tell me."
"Stop." Jeonghan intervened between the two. "Both of you."
"I said, tell me!" Junhui exploded.
Whatever restraint was holding him back from this, no longer existed. He's had enough. He could no longer stay in the dark.
"Kwon Soonyoung." Jihoon said in an authoritative manner. He glared at him.
It is not your place to tell him.
Soonyoung backed down and exited the room, leaving everyone inside with a heated Junhui.
Bzzt! Bzzt!
Wonwoo's phone vibrated.
He checked his phone and saw an unknown number calling him.
He went to the corner of the room and took the call. "Hello?"
"It's me, Minghao."
