As she looked down at her newborn daughter, Maleficent felt an urge to protect her daughter from what she had experienced with Hades down in the human realm. She didn't know Hades was the from Hell, she thought of him as a weak human, pathetic like all the rest. But, as she examined Mal carefully, she realised that Mal bore a mark on her left upper arm. A mark of two dragons. Maleficent didn't know what it meant, but she was quite sure enough to know that Mal had inherited all her dragon qualities, and she let a quick and small grin spread on her face, glad that she had a heir to take after her.

On days where Maleficent was unhappy, she would just dump Mal a bottle and leave her to scream and wail while Maleficent just stayed in her room to cry out a little tears. On days where Maleficent wasn't unhappy but not that happy, she'd spend a little time with Mal to make herself brighten up for her daughter's sake. She didn't want Mal to grow up without parents' love, but she sometimes really didn't know what to do. Mal did know how to make Maleficent happy though. She would climb up Maleficent's shoulders and grab Maleficent's horns within her slender and strong arms, then hoist herself up to sit on Maleficent's head, putting a smile on Maleficent's face.

~6 years later~

Mal and Maleficent woke up in each of their own rooms. Mal in her purple theme layers, Maleficent in her classic evil black. It was harder to make Maleficent happy these days, but easier to show her how much evil potential you had. Competition between Evil Queen Grimhilde and Maleficent was common and getting stronger, with Maleficent constantly in the lead, high above the citizens on her balcony. Mal had to watch her step around, to ensure that she was evil enough not to belong to the ordinary, but things needed getting used to, so the day came where she couldn't remember to be evil enough, and she bent down to help a citizen to pick up their rotten apples. Of course, Maleficent had kicked the basket, scattering everything everywhere again, and dragged Mal home.

Flinging Mal into her room, Maleficent boomed, "If you don't be evil, my girl, you will end up just like your father, WEAK and PATHETIC!" before slamming the door shut. Maleficent's anger had put 6-year-old Mal at shock, but as Mal bit on her lips, fought back her tears and promised never to let down evil, Maleficent sat silently in her own room. Tears trickled down her cheekbones and down to her chin as Maleficent thought back 6++ years, to when she first met Hades. "No, I mustn't think about him. Humans are all weak and pathetic, so is he." Maleficent tried to brainwash herself, but to no avail. Forcing herself to sleep, Maleficent laid down, and slept restlessly till the next morning.

The next day, the plaza down below was alive for once. Yet Mal, who was always very well informed about things, found out she knew nothing about what was going on. Frowning down from the balcony, Mal pursed her lips and tugged on her locks. It seemed......like a birthday party. And though Mal had been taught to despise parties, she knew this wasn't just the ordinary kind. Sure enough, as it went deeper into the day, Mal saw more and more VKs gathering at the party, and more importantly, all the villains were attempting to make a small blue figure on a slightly moth-eaten velvet cushion laugh.

Her peal was so sickeningly sweet that even way up upon the balcony it rang in Mal's ears. Even worse, it turned out that the small blue figure was Evil Queen Grimhilde's daughter, rightfully Princess Evie. Though Mal knew that even if she was invited she wouldn't attend, that didn't mean that they could try to leave her out from the double decked rotten apple cake or the nasty bags that contained evil sidekicks without Mal knowing. Her mood growing darker, it wasn't until Mal felt someone's breath on her hair did she realise Maleficent was just behind her. "Mother!" Mal yelped, almost tempted to continue "I thought you wouldn't want see me for the next few days!"

"What's going on?" Maleficent sounded rich and melodious as always, with that hint of menace to the edge of her voice that could induce fear in others with that green gaze of hers. "There's a party, and I'm not invited." Mal sniffed and Maleficent shook her head, thinking, "This child never learns how tiring parties can be." "Mal, what have I told you about parties? Nevertheless, Evil Queen and her daughter shall pay their price!" Maleficent boomed, right before she banished Grimhilde and Evie, right before she scattered the crowd, right before she reminded them who wore the crown.

As the crowd fled in a hurry, Hades saw Maleficent up on her balcony, tall and haughty, hatred written all over her face. Beneath all that, Hades saw a glimmer of sorrow that disappeared after 3 seconds and he got swept away in the crowd, not knowing Mal was his too, only finding her too alike Maleficent when she was a human. Looking down from her balcony, Maleficent thought her eyes played a trick on her as Hades' face seemed to appear amongst the crowd. She turned away quickly, and hurried Mal back into the castle.
