In the free city of Braavos, there were many temples, every god known to mankind had at least one, Lord of light, black goat, the lion of light and so on. But every follower that ever entered the House of Black and White knew that there is only one god and his name is death.
Many-Faced God was every silly god that is worshipped by silly little people. Many-Faced God gave me, Y/N, chance in better life. Born and raised in Braavos I was free to choose my fate and only god worth my prayers was death. I was twelve when I first joined the House of Black and White. For a year I was just a servant in the temple, cleaning floors and bodies of the dead. I never asked a question, I just waited. Then my training as the Faceless man began. They choose me because I didn't run when I saw faces of dead on the wall, I didn't run when I was given a name to cross. I was trained by two faceless men so I can become one of them. I needed to know how to fight, how to kill and how to forget. To be Faceless men you needed to relinquish your former identities and become "no one".So I did, I became no one. I wasn't known as Y/N anymore, I was known as Moonsinger.
Then a young girl came, she was no taller than me, had short brown hair and people called her Arya. She was trying so hard to become Faceless men and be able to kill people. She even had a list of them. I was the first who was assigned to a girl, I need to teach her to lie, to be convincing. She needed to know how to lie before the hard part came. But for her hard part was hiding who she really was.
"Who are you?" I asked standing across from her never breaking eye contact.
"I am no one." I smiled. She wasn't a no one, she knew who she was and she couldn't forget.
"You are not no one." I said making the girl angry.
"How come you are no one?!" she said. "Who are you?" she asked anger fill her for some reason.
"I'm a servent of Many-Faced God, I love no one, I hate no one, I am no one." I said, staying calm while watching the girl's eyes darken.
"No! Who are you really?! What on earth made you become no one?!" she was mad, she started screaming.
"I was a girl, only girl my mother had. She was the owner of the brothel, she wanted me to serve her. She didn't have a god and she didn't have fate. The only thing she had was money. The only thing she needed was money." Her eyes never left mine as I was telling her a story. She calmed down only breathing."I hated her, so I came into the house of Black and White to seek Faceless men. I gave them my mother's gold and ask them to kill her. After her death, I stayed in House of Black and White to serve Many-Faced God. I never left, I never will leave." I finished, looking at the girl.
Her face expression was now a mixture of afraid and confused. I smiled yet again. "Was that true?" I asked her and she stared at me, not saying anything. She opened her mouth but still no sound. "Was it true?" I repeat my question with my voice going a bit louder this time.
"No.," she said."You were not a daughter of a woman who owned a brothel, you didn't seek help from Faceless men. You are a liar." I smiled turning around and leaving. She was right, my mother wasn't the owner of a brothel but Faceless men did kill her for me.
Next day, I came to the girl again asking her the same question. "Who are you?" and again she answered "No one." I asked her again "Who are you?"
And this time she said "I'm a girl from Westeros, I came to Braavos to seek help. I was lowborn and didn't have food to eat. My father wanted to kill me so he could survive Winter. But I killed him first, running my hometown to come here." She sounded convincing, but she was lying. When she said the word "father" she looked down. Her action made me believe she was lying.
"You are lying." I said and she looked at me.
"How did you know?" she asked, almost whispering.
"Your father loved you, if he really tried to kill you, you wouldn't look down when you said that word." Tears formed in her eyes. "Who was your father?"
One tear slipped from her eye and ran across her cheek. "My name is Arya Stark." she said "My father was Lord of Winterfell, his name was Eddard Stark. My mother was Catelyn of House Tully. And my sister is probably dead." She never broke eye contact, making me question my gift in reading people. She wasn't lying this time."I never wanted to be no one. I wanted to avenge my family."
I kept silent looking at her. Tears streaming down her pale cheeks and words just spilling out of her mouth. Something human woke up in me when I looked at her. Made me question everything I did to get here.
Time had past and I didn't make contact with a girl anymore. She was slowly becoming one of us, a faceless man. She was trained to fullest, lost her sight and got it back. There was only one problem she couldn't kill a person she was given. And Faceless men wanted her dead. I was assigned first to find her and kill her. And when I found her, just one look and I could kill her.The human side of me woke and I could kill her. I stood in front of her shaking. She looked at me, knowing something is up. I was wearing another face but she knows it was me. I felt it in my bones.
"What do you want?" she asked and I removed the face of a young boy and look at her. Fear overwhelmed her face knowing that I'm there to kill her.
"I won't hurt you." I said lifting my hands in the air, moving closer to her.
"You will. You are here to kill me," she said stepping back one step for every mine that was coming closer.
"I'm here to help you Arya Stark. They will come for you and me, I'm risking my safety to help you." I said.
"What is your name?" at this time I remembered my life.
"Y/N." I said.
"How do I know you are not lying?" I came closer to her and your bodies were touching.
"You don't." I garbed her hand, taking her back to my father's home. He was long gone now, his body was down under the city.
"Why are you helping me?" she asked when we were safe to speak.
"You woke something in me Arya Stark. You woke part of me I tried to kill." I said "I will forever be in your serves. At least until Faceless men find me." she looked me into eyes.
"They won't find you. You will go with me to Westeros." I smiled at her bravery.
"I will be just weight in your shoulders. I will stay here, serving as Faceless. Tomorrow I will find you a ship to send you back home and when Faceless men ask me I will lie for you." she bit her lip.
"Why would you risk your life just because I helped you remember?"
"You didn't just help me remember mine name, you help me remember my past, my family, my father who tried so hard to keep me alive. He tried so hard that it got him killed." She didn't say anything, just sat there looking at me. She knew I wasn't lying this time and she felt safe to be around me. At least that's what I could read in her eyes.
She helped me remember who I was, before the House of Black and White. I after she left I never got to tell her how I really felt. I miss her every day I am spending alive. Serving Many-Faced God and being a Faceless man who is not a no one. Not anymore.
