ELEANOR HAD NO idea which one was more devastating to hear at the moment. Was it the news that an ancestor of hers wants her dead so the latter can possess her physical body and rule the world or was it the one where her husband should have died because it was a way to defeat the Phoenix force?
"Correction." Wanda coughed. "No one can defeat the Phoenix force. It is the origin of all psionic energy and will exist forever in all realities of the omniverse." She explained thoroughly. "It is an immortal entity and is the prime universal force of life. To kill it would mean the end for us all. Life will cease to exist and no life will ever come about it, Eleanor."
The woman blinked twice, slowly digesting the information that was just thrown at her. Just a few minutes ago, Wanda, who introduced herself as Erik's daughter from another timeline and the Scarlet Witch, tried her best to explain everything that was going on. But, Eleanor was having a hard time to register it all.
"I still don't get it." She shrugged. "I have no idea what you're saying. I didn't even understand anything at all."
She then sat down on the ground, her fingers rubbing her temples in circles. "How did you even know what I was thinking? You can hear my thoughts even though you're... astral projecting?" She asked. "Is that even the right term? Is that a part of what you can do as Scarlet Witch?"
Wanda enthusiastically nodded. "Yes, that's the right term and also, yes. I can hear what you're thinking though I cannot perform magic in my astral form."
The brunette's lips hung open for moment and she curled her hand into a fist. "Magic? Magic fucking exists? Spells and rituals really exist?"
"Of course, it does." retorted Wanda, her Serbian accent rolling off with ease. "If mutants exist, then magic does as well. As a matter of fact, your mutation has always been subtly associated with magic."
Eleanor's lips hung open in surprise. "No shit." She uttered. She had always known that her mutation were just plasmokinesis and psionics. Her blasts were just composed of pure plasma energy just like Scott and Alex's even Hank confirmed it himself, well until recently. "Okay, that's it!" She threw her hands up. "What the fuck is really going on in here?" She rubbed her face in frustration.
"Look, I know you must be so shocked right now -- "
"Obviously. I mean, who wouldn't be, right? I just recently died and now, I'm bombarded with all these information." She retorted, then sighed as she pinched the bridge of her nose. "Alright, I'm sorry, can-can you repeat everything you just said to me again?"
Wanda sighed. "Alright, like I said earlier, it was Erik or well, father... who should have died. He was the one who was supposed to be killed by Jean, not you." She expounded, pointing her index finger to her. "That's why I'm here. Because I'm supposed to accompany him when he arrives and waits for his judgement."
Eleanor's heart was shattered once again as she heard this from Wanda. She couldn't imagine what her life would be if he was gone. Swallowing the lump in her throat, she continued to listen. "Then, your grief will fully unlock the rest of your Chaos magic and you will banish the Phoenix force from your reality just like what I did in my own." The wavy-haired female finished, twirling her hand to conjure a bright red orb of energy above her palm.
"Just like what you did..." Eleanor repeated, trailing off as she observed the sphere in Wanda's palm. "What's Chaos magic?" She asked. "Is that what you're performing right now? I-I mean, why do our powers look the same?"
Wanda raised her eyebrow. "Oh, these?" She lifted her energy orb. "These are my hex bolts. You see, my mutation really is probability manipulation. I cause unlikely things to happen. Then, they were amplified by this Chaos magic that I received from the demon Chthon... who wanted to use me as his vessel." mentioned the woman. "But, that's a story for another time." She clasped her hand together in front of her, making the spheres disappear. "As for your question: why our powers look similar? I guess that's because we're both users of Chaos magic."
Eleanor nodded. "Alright," She licked her lips. "So, how did I get this... Chaos magic? Did I get it from this demon you just mentioned? Am I like you? Am I a Scarlet Witch?"
"First of all, there's only one Scarlet Witch and that's me. I inherited that from my mother. That title's been passed down throughout the history of my family. There are multiple versions of me, but as of this moment, I am the one and only Scarlet Witch until I pass that mantle." elucidated she. "You are just another user of Chaos magic and no, that magic in you was already present ever since you were born. It was drawn to you just like your Order magic."
The brunette blinked several times. "I have another magical energy in me?"
Her companion nodded. "Yes, you can both wield Order and Chaos magic and also, thanks to your ancestor, you can perform Dark magic. You really do possess a natural affinity for magical forces, Eleanor."
"You kept on mentioning this ancestor of mine who wants to possess my physical body earlier. Who's that?"
"You don't know?"
"Would I ask if I do?"
Wanda tilted her head to the side as if amused. "Eleanor... you are the descendant of one of the most powerful sorceresses to ever exist in the history of the Earth. Morgan Le Fay."
Eleanor's eyes widened and her lips hung open in shock. "Morgan Le Fay." She repeated, stunned. "As -- As in... from the Arthurian myth and legend Morgan Le Fay?"
"The one and only."
The brunette froze, her brain trying to register the recent revelation. Morgan Le Fay, her ancestor, wants to possess her physical body to take over the world. Eleanor nails dug further into the soil beneath her. What the fuck is this shit? She asked herself. Blinking twice, she then queried, "So, all this time I'm... a witch?"
"Yes."
"But, how come this magic only showed itself now? Why not before?"
"That's because your Order magic neutralized it. Order and Chaos magic are complete opposites and they fought over you. In the end, harmony reigned over disorder." apprised she, carefully. "However, that magic in you was then rendered dormant because your mind and body placed barriers upon barriers to protect you from it. It was considered as a threat no matter how peaceful it was."
"As a result, it only manifested in small and simple ways like preserving peace and order around and such." Wanda walked over close to a tree and leant against it as she continued narrating. "In the past timeline... before you guys changed the events in 1973, it was that magic that healed Charles from his addiction and help Logan through his trauma with Stryker's experiments. Your desire to help them overcome their obstacles was acknowledged by your magic and it was made possible."
Eleanor clasped her hands together and she looked down om the ground. "Oh, my god." She silently wished she had her bearing balls to roll across her palm as she pieced everything together.
"Have you ever noticed why every problem of yours would resolve itself suddenly? Did you not wonder how you were able to calm Logan down when he had a breakdown during the Paris Peace Summit in 1973? or when you renewed Charles' hope that day too? That was your Order magic manifesting." Wanda apprised.
Eleanor nodded, standing up from her position. She was starting to feel overwhelmed with all she just realized. She always thought they were just a part of her mutation, but apparently, it wasn't. Everything started to make sense now. "Alright, I-I think I get it. Order magic is good and Chaos magic is bad. True?"
Wanda chuckled, grinning. "False. It depends on the purpose of the user. I wield Chaos magic and use it to help save the world. It only becomes bad if I used it for selfish purposes, Eleanor."
"Oh."
"You know," Wanda pursed her lips for a moment. "You weren't even supposed to wield any of your magical abilities in your lifetime, but ever since you guys altered the events in 1973, a lot has changed. I guess, this is a repercussion. You mess with the timeline, it tends to mess back."
"En Sabah Nur wasn't even supposed to be unearthed especially not by Moira MacTaggert, but after you met him inside Charles' mind, he sensed these two energies in you and unlocked a portion of one of them in the hopes he would be able to use it to his advantage." expounded she. "Unwittingly, he unleashed that Chaos magic and released Athena Parthenon's divine powers in Valerie. You both used it against him, but you, Eleanor..." She paused, slightly chortling. "You erased his existence."
Eleanor remembered that day clearly. How she wished it, desired it that day. That magic followed her command.
"And from then on, new abilities emerged, Eleanor. Astral projecting, reality warping, banishment, and so much more... adding to your mutation of plasmokinesis and psionics."
Hearing all those from Wanda made Eleanor think that she was a very powerful person. Perhaps, she was. She remembered how she almost killed all that one soldier in Stryker's facility and when she deeply desired to obliterate En Sabah Nur. A deep anxious feeling then coursed through her veins. She knew too much power in one person's hands was dangerous, just like Jean right now. Eleanor wondered what would be the cost of this all.
"So, alright, I am a mutant and a sorceress. I get that now." Eleanor pointed to herself, pacing to her right. "Do I need to perform some spells, incantations, rituals or be in a coven?"
Wanda smirked. "You're catching up, Eleanor. You've always been a fast learner."
Eleanor's thoughts were suddenly brought to Erik as she heard Wanda's last sentence. He always admired her aptitude. This caused her to feel an ache in her heart. She pondered over how her family was reacting to her death right now especially her husband. Remembering that Wanda could hear her thoughts, Eleanor focused on shutting her mind from her.
The other female smiled, now looking proud. Eleanor knew then Wanda had felt the strong mental barriers inside her head. Actually, she didn't know if it would work since she was in her astral form and not in her physical body, but this gave her some sort of relief because no one would enter her mind without her knowing.
"Very good. I was wondering when you'd shield your thoughts from me." commended Wanda. "And to answer your question, you have no need to do spells or rituals because of the multiple magical energies in you. Whatever you want, as long as you greatly desire it, will happen."
Wanda then crossed her arms. "However, the Chaos magic unleashed in you is at forty to forty-five percent only."
"Alright," Eleanor snapped her fingers. "so, as of this moment, almost half of my Chaos magic is unlocked and my Order magic is like not so much active. Why do I have to unleash the full power of that Chaos magic again? And can I use Order magic instead?"
"Because you need to banish the Phoenix force from your universe and no, Chaos magic is the only one that can stand against the Phoenix since the latter is all about order, the opposite of chaos. They will repel just like the two mystical energies in you."
"But, that's not possible anymore now, right? I mean, I'm dead. I will never be able to banish it or fully unleash this magic in me."
At this, the other sorceress raised her hand. "Well, you're not yet dead... dead. I might have exaggerated it a bit earlier. I mean, if you're dead, your soul right now must be glowing white, not gold. So, here..." She paused as she waved her hand in the air and a small, almost portal-like aperture opened at Eleanor's side.
Inside, she saw her unconscious body lying in a hospital bed with a heart monitor beeping softly beside her, a clear evidence that she was still alive. Erik was sitting beside her, holding her hand close to his lips. He was just quietly watching her and it was as if he refused to move anywhere else. She also caught sight of her youngest son, Alex, sleeping in the couch, cheeks wet from crying.
"This is happening out there right now?"
Wanda hummed.
"Dad!" Eleanor then heard Anastasia call out from the other side and her hand immediately flew to her lips, almost tearing up. It was the very first time she heard her daughter acknowledged Erik as her father and it broke her heart when she realized she wasn't fully around when she heard it.
Erik's head perked up and he stood up from his seat just as Anastasia embraced him tightly. "Dad!" She breathlessly uttered. "Dad, I'm sorry! I'm so sorry if I had to leave you and Nathan earlier! Jean was going to annihilate the whole island if I didn't stop her!"
Eleanor watched as her husband detached himself from her, his expression unreadable. She knew them he was slightly stunned that Anastasia called him dad. "It's alright. I understand. What matters is you're safe and alright."
"How's mom?"
"The doctor said she's stable, but in a comatose state." He swallowed, visibly struggling to speak. "They don't know when she will wake up."
Anastasia's hand reached out to hold her corporeal body's arm. "Mom's going to come back to us, dad. I know it. She won't leave us. Not now, not yet." Her daughter leaned down, her lips trembling. "Right, mom? You're going to come back to us. I know you will."
"I-I will, baby. I promise. Mommy will come back." Eleanor sniffed, reaching out to touch her daughter, but this only resulted in closing the portal, ending the scene that transpired before her. She wiped away her tears and gathered herself again. Turning to face Wanda, she asked. "How did Erik die?"
"He sacrificed his life to save you and Anastasia from Jean's rage." answered Wanda. "That's the event that will release both of your mystical energies in you and you'll be powerful enough to stand against the Phoenix force."
Hearing how Erik will die sent a shiver down Eleanor's spine. She shut her eyes to keep the raging new thoughts inside her mind at bay.
"So, what are we going to do? I mean, how can I come back? Because I have no idea how to return to my body." Eleanor clenched her hand into a fist. "Do I have to make a gesture or something?"
Wanda bit her lip and clicked her tongue. "You can actually return now if you wish to." She informed. "Try it."
Following her words, Eleanor closed her eyes and tapped into her mystical core, immediately grasping its energy. It embraced her and she felt the all too familiar suppressed magic connecting with her again just like how it did when she released it on En Sabah Nur. Two blazing red spheres appeared in both of her palms and she curled her right hand, focusing on wishing to return.
She didn't.
She tried once again and wisps of scarlet light emitted from her body. Eleanor used all her strength and will to return to her physical body, but she couldn't. Something was blocking her. "Nothing's happening. I-I don't know why I can't do it. It's like something's preventing me from leaving here."
At this, Wanda looked up at the sky, squinting her eyes. "Someone wants to trap you in here. No doubt it's Le Fay."
Eleanor rubbed her face in frustration. She was already on the verge of just blasting everyone. "Why am I not surprised? Her follower wanted to kill me in my astral form last night so she can possess my body." She huffed, angrily. "You know what, I'm thinking she all orchestrated this to trap me in here so she can take my body and use it for whatever her fucking purpose is. It fits, it really does fit."
"It does, actually. I think you're correct."
Eleanor gritted her teeth. "Why is this all happening right now?" She shouted, throwing her hands up. "I mean, I'm in a coma, then I have two -- no, three motherfucking magical energies in me, my bitch ancestor wants to take my physical body, my daughter has the fragment of the Phoenix in her, Jean's growing out of control, my husband could die, and I'm fucking trapped in here!" She fumed. "Could this get anymore worse?"
"You're done?"
Eleanor closed her eyes, calming herself. She nodded. "Yeah... yeah, I'm done."
"Good." Wanda pushed herself away from the tree trunk. "There is another way for you to return, but it's going to be a very long journey. We'll have to pass to three different realms before we reach the physical world and I don't think I can accompany you in all of them."
"What are these realms?"
"The realms of dream, nightmare, and madness."
"Wow, that doesn't sound ominous at all... like at all." sarcastically remarked Eleanor. "And did you say long? How many days are we going to travel?"
"Four."
"Four?"
Wanda shrugged, traipsing into the forest. "Time works differently in here and all of the other realms. A day here is an hour in the real world."
"Wow." breathed out Eleanor. Who knew there were different realms out there? Who even knew there were alternate timelines and dufferent universes? She remembered the mission back in 1973, but the purpse of that was to alter the events and to save everyone's future. "Okay, I have one last question before we go and travel through these realms you mentioned."
Wanda hummed, raising her eyebrow.
"Does Erik really have to die for me to unleash this fucking Chaos magic in me?"
The Scarlet Witch paused for a moment. "Actually, I'm not sure anymore."
"Well, can't you look into it?"
"Here's the thing. I can show you what's currently happening, but looking into vast different futures? That's my other friend's ability."
"Wait, can't you call him to get here and help us?"
"He's busy."
Eleanor nodded, following Wanda's direction. "What's his name?"
"It's Strange."
"I'm sure I've heard stranger names than his. I mean -- "
"No, I meant his name is Strange."
"Yeah, I get what you mean."
"No, his full name," Wanda emphasized. "is Stephen Strange."
Eleanor's lips hung open for a moment, realizing her slow-wittedness. "Ah."
"Eleanor?"
The brunette blinked twice, recognizing the voice. Her heart hammered against her chest wildly as she spun around. "Raven?"
And there, stood the white luminiscent figure of Raven, floating close behind her. Eleanor's hand flew to her mouth. "Oh my god, you're really here." She rushed forward, meeting her close. Raven was in her original form. Her ginger hair and blue skin quite evident despite the bright light surrounding her. Looking down at herself and the female in front of her, Eleanor came to the conclusion that Raven was now a spirit unlike her. Her friend indeed died. "Oh, my god!" She cried. "You're really -- you're really..."
"Hey, hey, don't cry." Raven's hand reached out to her cheeks, wiping the tear that escaped her eye. "I'm fine. I'm alright." She smiled.
"But, you're not -- "
"But, I am here
