Nobody could believe what was going on, and Leyla came walking in when Can was saying we have to call her parents.    Leyla said, "What happened?" and when they told her, she started begging "Please don't call our parent's.    I'll go take care of her, but please, please don't call them."

Can said, "Okay, but I will drive you to the hospital, and you can explain."

Emre said, "I will go, too!"   Huma ask, "Should I go?"  

 Emre replied, "No, we will call you, just go on home for now."

Leyla cried all the way to the hospital, saying, "I should have taken better care of her, what are we going to do?   Our parent's won't let her work anymore when they find out. They will make her marry Muzo, and she will have to quit work and just stay home."

Can and Emre were shocked at what they were hearing, this wasn't Sanem's fault.  Wouldn't her parents understand and let her keep working?

Leyla said, "No, they are very traditional and will blame Sanem for causing a fuss, even if not her fault.  Please, Please don't tell them."

Can was remembering the secret Sanem told him about her education.  He had not realized her parents were this strict. Polen was obviously mental, and he felt like it was partly his fault he had not realized she was this bad.

He really liked working with Sanem, she was brilliant, creative, humble, wonderful sense of humor and beautiful. He really like her a lot, and liked keeping her close.   Wow, was he developing feelings for Sanem?

When they got to the hospital, Leyla went to find the doctor to see if she could see her sister.  She wanted to find out what was wrong with her, and could she take her home.

When the doctor came out to talk to Leyla, he ask if she could sign for surgery for Sanem.  They needed to see where she was bleeding from, she had not come to yet.  They needed to take her to surgery immediately.

She said, "She is my sister, and she is 24 years old.   Our parent's are at least forty-five minutes away."  The doctor said, "Please sign as next of kin here, because it might be to late if we wait on her parents.  She appears to have stab wounds in her abdomen from a sharp object."  Emre spoke up and said, "She was kicked by a crazy woman wearing high heel shoes."

Emre caught Leyla as she started wobbling.   He then walked with her to the nurse's desk, to sign the consent.

Can sat down, holding his head in his hands, he realized that he couldn't stand if something happened to her.   He had gotten so used to her quietly in the background, being with him.   Could he have fallen in love with her?

When Leyla and Emre came to sit beside Can, they couldn't believe it, he was crying.   He told them, "I just realized how much I have grown to care for Sanem, and I don't want to lose her."     Leyla was shocked, because she knew that Sanem liked Can, but did she like him more than a boss?  Emre had never seen his brother like this, and knew he was serious.

Leyla begged again, could we wait to call our parent's, as she was so afraid of what they would do or say.   She called Ayhan, Sanem's best friend and Osman's sister.  She ask her to call their parent's later at dinner time, to let them know the girls were with them.  She would call as soon as possible with an update.

After the surgery, the doctor came to find them.   He told them they had gotten the bleeding stopped and that Sanem would not have any lasting effects from her injuries.  She would have to stay in the hospital for a few days, for antibiotics because of being stabbed with dirty shoes.     Also, they had phoned the police, because they have to report any stabbing incidents.   They  were told the assault had already been reported.

They thanked the doctor, and he left after saying Leyla could go see Sanem when she is awake.     Leyla started crying, and saying what is she going to tell her parent's?   They can't hide this now, with her in the hospital.

Can said, "I will talk to your parents and explain that Sanem got injured at work by an intruder, which is true.  Then we will see how that goes, and I will keep you out of it for now."

"Can Bey, you don't know my parent's, maybe I should just go tell them everything." replied Leyla.

Emre said, "Why don't we all go together?  Then we can bring them to see Sanem, she should be awake by then."

Leyla said sadly, "Sanem will not be allowed to come back to work anymore, and have to marry Muzo.    She will be so sad and upset."

Can said, "Let's tell the nurses where we are going, and go get it over with."

It was a very somber group leaving the hospital, going to seal Sanem's fate.

When they got to the Malhalla, it was still daylight, and lot's of neighbors outside.  They stood watching as the three got out of Can's truck, and went inside the Aydin's house.   Leyla had the two men remove their shoes and put on house slippers, which was a surprise for the Divit men.     She went upstairs first calling for her Anne, who came and looked surprised to see two men with her daughter.   Leyla introduced her bosses to her Anne and Baba, as he came from the living room.  They invited the men into the living room and to have a seat.    Anne offered them tea, but Can said, "Thank you, but we need to talk with you first."

Can continued, "We just came from the hospital checking on Sanem.  She got hurt at work today."  

Before he could finish, Mevkibe starting yelling, I knew that girl would get into trouble, she never does anything right.  She is going to quit that job before she causes anymore trouble.   We will make her marry Muzo, right away.   Nihat call him now and we will get this done.

Can was really getting upset, because they wouldn't listen.   Leyla was crying and Emre looked confused, as they had not even ask if Sanem was hurt or anything.

Can finally said firmly, "Excuse me, may I finish?"  They all looked shocked, but nodded yes.

Can started explaining that, "Sanem has not done anything wrong, in fact she is a very valuable employee.   She is needed at the agency, as she had by herself, saved an account for them.   Now she was injured by an intruder in our company, the police are involved.  She was injured so badly, that she just got out of surgery.   We were going to take you to see her if you like?   The   doctor does not want her upset, so that she starts bleeding again."

By this time Mevkibe was crying and saying, "Thank you, could you please take us to see our baby?"   Nihat just stood shocked at what he was hearing.

It was a very quiet group that drove over to the hospital to see Sanem.

She was awake and shocked when her parent's and Can Bey came into the room.  Can had said, " I'm going in with you, so that you will not upset Sanem", and surprisingly, her parents did not say a word.

Sanem said, "Anne and Baba you didn't have to come, I am okay just have to stay in the hospital for a couple of day or so, for antibiotics.   Can Bey, I am so sorry to be of trouble to you, and you didn't have to bring my parents."

Can replied, "Sanem it was no trouble, everyone at work wants you to get well, and come back soon.  Because it was a work place injury, the Agency is paying your medical bills.  So please don't worry about them."

Mevkibe and Nihat were starting to wonder about this nice young man, who seemed to really want to protect their daughter, even from them.   They noticed that Sanem seemed really shy with him, while smiling sweetly."

After everyone visited with Sanem, Can took Leyla and her parent's back home.   No one said a lot on the trip back home.  The Aydin's just thanked the Divit brothers, when they got out at home.   No one said anything else bad about Sanem, either!

He then dropped Emre off at the office, where his car was parked.

Can stopped and picked up sandwiches and drove back to the hospital.   He did not know what Sanem would or could eat, but he decided to take her something and check on her again.

When he got to her room, started to knock on the door, when he heard sobbing inside.   He knocked and went inside quickly.   He rushed to the bed and wrapped his arms around Sanem.   She drew back and said  "Oh, I'm sorry Can Bey, I didn't know you were here."

Can said, "Are you hungry? I brought you a sandwich."   As he was embarrassed to have grabbed her in a hug.

She laughed and said, "I am always hungry, the nurse brought me liquids.  Then the doctor came by and said it was okay to eat anything I wanted.  But it's to late to order tonight.  Thank you so much for bringing me something."

As they ate, they talked about Can's travels and Sanem's hope to go to Galapagos someday to see the Albatross.  Can was amazed, how much Sanem knew about the places he had travelled, just from reading.   Some of the places she knew more than he did, about the areas.

They were both so much more relaxed away from the office, and really enjoyed their time together.   Can could tell Sanem was getting tired, so he decided to leave her to rest.  They both were kind of shy telling each other goodnight.

As he went out the door his phone rang, he turned and waved at Sanem.   It was the police officer that arrested Polen.   He let Can know that Polen had posted bail and was out of jail.   He said that he, "was posting a police officer outside of Sanem's hospital room tonight.  It would be about an hour before they got to the hospital."

Can told him not to worry, he was at the hospital now, and would sit outside her door till the police got there.   As Can just sat there thinking about what a mess all of this was, and how he didn't realize Polen had mental problems. 

He really felt guilty that Sanem was caught in the middle of something, that was not her problem.  He heard a noise, and looked around, but nobody was around.  Then he heard it again, someone saying, "No, No, Please don't hit me!"   He realized it was Sanem, and ran into the room.   She was having a nightmare, and thrashing around in the bed.   She kept saying "no, no." Then she said, "Can Bey help me."

Can put his arms around her saying, "Sanem it's me, Can, I'm here , you are safe."  She stopped moving around, but did not open her eyes.   Can said, "Sanem, baby open your eyes."

She slowly opened her eyes, but did not look up at Can.  Can smiled and said, "You are okay, it was just a nightmare."   She slowly raised her head and said, "I am so sorry."   He smiled at her and she smiled back very shyly.

They just sat and looked at each other, not even realizing that Can still held her in his arms.   It was the sweetest moment, until the nurse came in and said "I'm sorry sir, visiting hours are over."   They both jumped away from each other but continued to smile.   Can said, "Yes Ma'am.   Have a good night Sanem, and no more nightmares."    Sanem smiled and said "goodnight."

When Can got outside the door, the police officer on guard was there.  They spoke for a few minutes, then Can left to go home, smiling the whole way.
