He shifted uncomfortably in the seat, this was new for him, flying in coach. His long legs ached from being in the tight space, he was thankful for the window to his left. He watched as the plane began its final descent, he nudged his wife as she slept.
She turned to him, "what is it now?" She asked, "I swear you are like traveling with a child"
He pointed out the window, "we're almost home" he said softly, though they no longer had a home, they had nothing.
"Anthony Owen Ruzek, don't you dare do it!" Kim yelled as she came upon Anthony holding a black sharpie inches from Harper's face, everyone had warned her about the terrible twos but they failed to mention the terroristic three and ferocious fours.
He giggled and took off for his bedroom, Harper's face free from marker. She scooped the one year old up in her arms "Harper Grace, what are we going to do with that big brother of yours?"
"Kim, did you know Anthony had this?" Annie held the black sharpie up, "he's redecorated his bedroom by the way"
"He's a mess. He tried to draw on Harper but I caught him" Harper reaching out for Annie, "do you have class today?"
Annie took Harper from her, "I do. Trey should be here shortly to pick me up, so you don't have to take me today"
"Trey, huh?" The two had been spending a lot of time together, "you and my nephew are almost inseparable"
She watched as Annie blushed, "please, don't you start too" Adam already brought it up with her "Adam was interrogating me the other night"
Kim laughed, "your brother is just looking out for you"
"I know but he doesn't need to worry about Trey, we're just friends" Annie told her, but it wasn't really true, she really liked Trey but he was head over heels for some girl at the college.
They heard a car honk, "that's Trey I better go" she handed Harper back to Kim and grabbed her books from the sideboard, "see you later"
Kim followed her, "you need to tell my nephew to come inside when he picks you up"
"Yea, sure."
Adam came into the living room, a serious case of bed head, "who the hell was honking?" He asked as he rubbed his eyes, "it's barely eight o'clock in the morning" he grumbled, "whoever it was needs to learn how to ring a fucking doorbell"
Kim sighed "aren't you Mr.Chipper, this morning" she wasn't sure what time he had come to bed last night, obviously it was late. "Why don't you try and go back to bed" she suggested to him.
"Nope. I'm up now" he sat at the table, "hey sweet pea, can daddy have a bite" he stole the muffin off the tray, "where's Anthony?"
Kim pointed down the hall, "in his bedroom" she held the marker up, "he was trying to write on Harper, and Annie said he colored the walls"
"That was Trey honking, wasn't it?" He asked, "that boy needs to get out of his damn car when he picks my sister up"
"I already told her Adam, she will talk to Trey" she handed him a cup of coffee, "please drink this, you really don't need to worry about Annie and Trey, they're just friends"
He glanced at her, "yeah okay. Keep telling yourself that" he could tell his sister liked Trey, he remembered their conversation from a few nights ago "my sister definitely likes your nephew"
Kim grabbed the magic eraser from under the sink, "what time did you get in last night anyway?"
Adam ran his hand through his hair, "three thirty quarter to four, the case is a tough one" he still had the images burned in his mind's eye of the bodies they found in the woods.
"You want to talk about it?" She asked, though she knew he wouldn't.
"No, not really" he took the magic eraser from her, "you aren't cleaning the wall, Anthony will"
As they stepped out of the the plane and on to the Tarmac, they spotted someone holding a sign with their name on it, "who is that?" She asked him.
"I've arranged for Alan to pick us up, you must remember him." He told her, "he's from the club, he was my caddy for years"
She laughed, "well that's just great, the entire club will now know we are broke" just saying the words made her skin crawl, she would never get used to this.
"You need to stop looking down your nose at people, and get used to being one of the little people" he told her, his wife was controlled by the all mighty dollar and he knew she wasn't adjusting well to their new financial status.
She huffed at him, "I wouldn't have to if you and those sons of ours didn't destroy our company" her voice cold, "if you knew what you were doing maybe Daniel would still be here" her eldest son had always been her favorite, and he was gone.
Sean Roman sat at the desk, he hadn't gone home once they finished at the scene. He was beside himself, it was the worst case he has seen since joining the unit. He threw up once he saw the first body, and it only got worse as the night went on.
"You okay?" Jay asked when he found him at the desk, "you can't hold on to it for too long, it will eat you alive if you do" he sat down, "seriously Sean"
Sean nodded, "yeah, I know. It just knocked me on my ass" he rubbed his temple, his head throbbed, "you have any aspirin?"
"Some in the break room, the cabinet next to the fridge" Jay told him.
"Thanks" he tried to avoid the whiteboard on his way to the break room, the pictures of the bodies they found plastered to it, he knew they need to catch this monster and soon before he found another victim.
She waited for the cab to arrive, everything she owned in a small black duffel bag she kept moving it from one hand to the other. She was shocked when she found out she was being released from the hospital and being sent to a halfway house, she didn't understand it but it was better than being in that hospital with the crazies.
She had only had one visitor the entire time and it wasn't because he wanted to see her, Adam just wanted the truth. The truth had always been difficult for her to tell, every since her childhood, nine times out of ten when she opened her mouth it was a lie. She gave him the truth that day, she owed him that much.
"I'm sorry I writed on the wall mommy" Anthony said his eyes cast downward at his feet, "and I won't color on Harper" he handed her the eraser.
"Thank you for cleaning it up, bud" she took the eraser, "come eat some breakfast"
Adam emerged from their bedroom, "I have to go back, I don't know how long I will be gone" he told her as he embraced her, after seeing what he saw last night he didn't want to let her go, "god I love you" he told her.
"I love you too" she looked up at him, "hey, whatever it is you can tell me" she told him.
"I know, I don't want to though" he tried to erase it from his mind, the last thing he wanted to do was invite it into his home, "depending on what time we finish I may grab a few drink with Al tonight, but I'll let you know for sure" he missed Al and he knew he could talk about it with him.
"Okay, call me" she kissed him, "just be careful, okay"
"I will" he kissed Anthony and Harper and headed out.
Phil sat in the office at his new company, he was shocked he was hired they explained that everyone deserved a second chance and hoped it would benefit both the company and Phil.
He was still fighting to be able to see his own children Jonathan was eight now and little Madilyn was six, his ex-wife was keeping them tied up in a custody fight and he had to wait for the case to be settled before he could see the kids.
Erin dropped Tyler off with the nanny, "he last ate about seven so he should be good for awhile" she said as she handed over the diaper bag, "he's three months today" she smiled, he was the spitting image of Jay. She remembered how happy Jay was they found out she was pregnant and then again when they learned it was a boy. They named him after Jack Tyler, they worried about Adam and Kim's reaction to their son's name but they pulled said they understood that Jack played a big role in Jay's life. He had made a mistake one he regretted deeply.
Voight stood beside the white board, "this case needs to be solved yesterday" he told them, they had found three bodies last night and over the course of the last two months they had found seven total, every single one was a white female ranging in age from 17-22. "We have dick to go on, the only connection is they all went to the same college"
Adam felt his skin crawl as he read the name of the college they all attended, "boss, my sister takes classes there" he felt uneasy, "what are we thinking, a professor? Another student?"
Hank shrugged, "your guess is as good as mine, we need to head down there and start kicking tires, someone has to know something"
