[ idkkk i can't come up with anything good and i don't wanna absolutely butcher the ideas i do have // song is by the neighborhood

this is a rewrite of 'are you in love' from starboy, book three. but i changed the concept and the focus of it to make it a lil less cringe

warnings: language, and an extreme au where lewis never had a crush on logan!!

concept: logan, harry, and lewis all live together (bc why not) and lewis' longterm boyfriend spends a few days with them.

the backing vocals in bright by echosmith are so good?? why did i stop listening to this song?? oh yeah i used it in a cringey fanfic a couple years ago

stay safe,

Really, he's grateful that his housemates like Alex.

He was afraid that Logan wouldn't get along with him, just based on the information practically pried out of him about their past. But Alex was an amiable guy, and he made Lewis happy. So of course Logan tried.

They'd been together forever, since before Lewis met his best friend. Even though Lewis' mother didn't necessarily approve, their relationship wasn't illegal.

The four of them, meaning Lewis, Logan, Harry, and Alex, were in the living room, just hanging out and having a good time. Lewis was curled up against Alex, sitting directly opposite of Logan and Harry, who were in a similar position. There were adoring smiles all around, because damn, how could someone be lucky enough to find a good match for them?

Eventually, the conversation turned to Lewis and Alex's past, because despite their long friendship, Logan had yet to get most of the details.

Lewis froze when Logan brought it up, but of course, Alex noticed. His hand soothed across his boyfriend's side, lips pressed against the top of his head. "It's okay, baby," he assured. "I'll tell him, if it makes you too uncomfortable."

"It's fine... Uh, 'Lex and I met right before my fourteenth birthday, because I was an idiot with destructive thoughts," Lewis started, playing with Alex's free hand. "I've told you 'bout that, but we like... 'officially' started dating a few months before I moved out here."

Logan was quiet throughout that, looking thoughtful. He was as hesitant as his friend when he asked, "He's the good one, right?"

Alex looked offended, mouth open to shoot back a response when Lewis rolled his eyes. "Of course, dumbass. Alex is my guy. Caught me every time I fell- literally."

"This idiot used to jump out his bedroom window to come play shows."

"Damn, Lew, I didn't know you used to be a daredevil."

"That just sounds really dangerous," Harry chimed in. "Obviously you didn't get hurt too badly, but still."

"Oh, Harry... If you think that was dangerous, I don't wanna get into shit that happened when we stayed at me and my sister's apartment," Alex laughed. "I personally think it's funny as hell."

Harry looked a bit alarmed, but shook his head. "I probably don't want to know."

Lewis yawned and leaned further against his boyfriend. "You definitely don't." After a brief pause, he told the others, "I think I'm gonna go to bed. Sleep well, guys. Goodnight."

Harry and Logan echoed his words, so he got up and started walking towards his room. He didn't get very far, however, because Alex came up behind him and swept him off his feet. Obviously, he fought to get out of the hold his boyfriend had on him, but it wasn't working.

"It's been fun, guys, but I gotta make sure my babe actually gets in bed and sleeps instead of writing. Y'all have a busy day tomorrow, wouldn't want this guy to be all tired and grumpy."

"I appreciate that," Logan told him with a grin, laughing at the way his best friend just suddenly stopped struggling. "Don't stay up too late then, yeah?"

----

"You okay, honey?" Alex asked as they got to Lewis' bedroom.

The elder was careful when he set his boyfriend down on the bed, smiling at the way Lewis immediately reached out for him again.

"I'm fine, 'Lex. I'd be better if you'd come over here and kiss me, though," he murmured.

Alex laughed, locking the door before laying down beside him and cupping his cheek. "You're so needy."

"Don't call me needy, which one of us called the other every morning and forgot time zones existed?" Lewis countered, a teasing grin on his lips. "I didn't need an alarm clock for school, I just had you calling me at four in the damn morning."

"In my defense, I was used to you being a couple miles away, not across the country," he replied. "Now are you gonna shut up and let me kiss you?"

Of course, Lewis stopped talking, suppressing the grin that formed on his lips as he closed the gap between them.

Soon, though, Alex broke the kiss, soothing his hand through the smaller boy's hair. "Go take a shower or whatever you need to do, babe. You really do need to sleep, that wasn't me trying to get you alone."

"I'll go take a shower... if you take one with me and wash my hair," Lewis told him, leaning in to peck his nose.

"Like I said, you're so goddamn needy," Alex laughed, but nodded. "I can definitely do that for you, baby."
