One small question: Why are there so many underrated characters in the Naruto World?!

Ok, back to the story :)

He was an Anbu from Root. As per standard Root training, Sai was conditioned to remove all emotions and as such, had difficulty connecting with others. When he is added to Team Kakashi as a replacement for the rogue Sasuke Uchiha, Sai begins to learn more about people's feelings and tries to develop his personality and identity by forming genuine bonds and rediscovering the emotions he was taught to suppress.

Fun fact: Sai is the only known male character in the series to take on his spouse's surname upon marriage.

"Big sissy? Big sissy!" you blinked. You were silent for a quite long time, pondering about what to write. In Konoha, you were one of the well-known authors there. When did you become a writer? You've become a writer ever since you could remember. Your rival was basically the pervy sage Naruto always talks about. You never asked him for advice knowing that he writes and does inappropriate things all the time.

For the last five minutes, all you thought of was what to write, completely ignoring all of your little brother's calls. Not only that, but you were so lost in thought and kept on forgetting on what you had to write and as a result, you started to come up with random scenarios and ideas for your current book. Usually, you'd rely on your boyfriend to give you some ideas. However, since he was sent on a mission a few days back, you won't be expecting him home soon.

You were at a dead end. You didn't know what to write, your mind kept on floating up to the clouds. As if you were emotionless, the only thing that kept you sane was just your brother.

"Sissy?" your brother called. His voice sounded as if he was going to cry, you haven't answered him in a long matter of time. "Are you angry at me?"

"No, no. I'm not angry Ruki," you blurted out, chuckling as that statement slipped out of your mouth. "I'm just, pondering, I guess."

"Ponder- what?" Ruki muttered. Regarding his age, your brother has a limited vocabulary.

     "Pondering." you corrected him.

"Yeah, that. What's pondering?" he questioned, his adorable childish voice filling the empty room you guys were in.

"It's like, well..." you started, slightly stumbling over your words a bit. You were never an expert on explaining these kinds of things, especially to someone younger than you. "It's like think about something carefully, especially before making a choice. It's basically another word to say thinking or studying."

You chuckled at yourself as you tried to define the word using easy words so that it seemed understandable for him. "I still don't get it." he pouted.

You sighed. "As I said, it's basically another word for thinking," you repeated.

His lips curved into the shape of a perfect O and nodded. Finally, he understood. We sat there in the living room, on the orange couch that we've owned for years. It was quiet, no word was being said. You loved the atmosphere, even better having your brother cuddled right next to you like a small cat.

Knocks could be heard from the front door. This somehow startled your younger brother.

"Sis?" Ruki mumbled, his voice filled with horror. You told him it was someone you knew, so it was fine. Making your way to the door, you confirmed it was definitely Sai. But, how did he get home so early?

"Hello." he greeted with his monotone voice he got from his experience in the foundation.

"Hey, Sai. You scared Ruki, you know?" you leaned against the door frame, chuckling.

"I'm sorry." he apologized, walking into your house passing you.

"No, no. It's fine. Besides, how did you finish your mission that fast?" you questioned, closing the door, locking it.

"Well, it was a quick one actually, just had to deliver a scroll," Sai answered. When he reached the living room, he spotted my younger brother. Usually, Ruki would be terrified of tall men, especially those who were taller than you. However, ever since he met Sai, his fear in them soon disappear and never resurfaced.

"Big brother Sai!" he cheered, his little feet ran toward him. Sai eventually caught him in a warm embrace.

"Hello, Little one." Sai smiled, though his smile faded when he saw your empty book. He turned around to face you, letting little Ruki go. "Don't know what to write?"

"Heh, yeah. I kept on hitting a dead-end whenever you're not around," you admitted. Sai sat on the orange couch with Ruki following him. He carried the boy up and on his lap. "Other than that I really have no desire to write."

"What's the story about again? I'm sorry." Sai sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment as he flipped through the pages of your book. You sighed and pointed out where you left off and a quick synopsis of the story.

It was the beginning of the chapter, so it was pretty difficult for you to know where you should start.

Sai smiled and closed the book he had in his hands. "Why don't we go out a little bit so you can get your energy back?" he suggested, placing your younger brother from his lap to where he sat earlier as he stood up from the couch.

"I mean, I would love to go. But how about Ruki? And where?" you asked, your brother means everything to you. Sai was not the only one who worked in the foundation, you did too, under the heartless bastard known as Danzo of course. You met Sai there and Ruki too. Though, ever since Danzo's passing, which you were glad of, you took Ruki under your wing and left the foundation, knowing of what they could do to such an innocent child like him.

"The flower festival? They are starting today, plus you could meet Naruto and Sakura there, I'm sure Ruki would like to see them, especially Naruto," he replied, then turning to Ruki. "Wanna come, Ruki?"

Your brother's eyes lit up, filled with excitement. "Yes! Yes, big brother Sai? Sissy?"

"Sure, we can, as long as that dobe don't do anything stupid." you sighed, grabbing your keys and exiting the door.

When the three of you got back. You of course had fun. You excused yourself to the bathroom to wash up. You returned only to see Sai and Ruki playing with each other, Sai tickling his small figure. Smiling at the two, you picked up your book and continued with your book.
