*Scaramouche POV*
"Hey, Scaramouche, it's your first day. You probably shouldn't miss it or you'll make a bad first impression.
That was the voice of my overly protective mother, Ei. And she was here to annoy me once again.
"I bet the students are gonna have a bad impression of me anyway."
Ei couldn't deny it. Being expelled from a school is a very embarrassing thing, and when people know of it, they'll build stupid rumours around that, saying things like "Oh look, the new transfer student killed someone in a fight!", or "Hey, you know that this transfer student does shady things like drug dealing and that's why they were kicked out". Probably those are the kind of rumours going on in that new school of mine about me, the less likeable person alive.
"I swear, your no-can-do attitude really ticks me off sometimes."
"And I'm tired of your overly controlling attitude. Look, Ei, I'm not a kid anymore. I can take care of myself."
She didn't even look like she listened and opened my curtains. The sun shined brightly - too brightly - in my eyes.
"Seriously?!"
"You have to go to school or I will ground you again. And if I see that you skip classes, same thing."
As harmless as it sounds, whenever Ei threatens me, she really does awful things. I'd... rather not think about what'd she do now.
"Alllright, alright. I'll get ready now."
She smiled proudly as a sign of victory and walked out of my room. I eventually put on my new school's uniform: a basic white t-shirt with a black jacket and black pants. I combed my messy hair and grabbed my bag that was laying in the corner of my room.
I got down the stairs and saw that Ei cooked me a breakfast for the first time in a while. It may have been basic, just two toasts with eggs on it, but it was a big effort coming for her, especially with her atrocious cooking.
Despite her tough and somewhat playful attitude, she is caring and hopes for my best. It does justify her overly protective behaviour and I do forgive her for it... when I feel like it.
"Thank you, Ei.", I said, taking up my plate and bringing it to the table.
Still, there was something wrong. She pouted.
"Won't you ever call me 'Mom' again?"
"No I won't."
"How rude!"
It is true that it's rude for her, disappointing almost, but it's just embarrassing. It has been years since I actually called her 'Mom', and now I just refer to her as Ei or mother. Her childish attitude gets her to obtain everything she wants. With me though, it's not as easy.
I finished eating, rinsed my plate and put it in the dishwasher. I looked at the time, it was about time for me to leave.
"Alright, I'm heading off now."
"No you're not, you're coming with me young man."
Looks like Ei decided she would drop me off at school? And she is the one that brought first impressions. With her dropping me off, I'll look like a small kid that can't do anything by myself.
I couldn't argue. Knowing Ei, she probably thinks she's doing a good thing, she probably thinks she's a good mother. Which she is, by the way, but just doesn't get how younger people think.
I put on my shoes and entered my mother's car. The trip was very silent, Ei and I didn't talk much. It was pretty long, too.
Ei finally decided to speak up.
"Your new school is pretty far away from home, huh?"
She really has no idea what to say.
"I guess so."
Another silence. We really couldn't talk to each other if it isn't by arguing or asking for something.
"I hope this new school will be better for you."
"..."
I hope so, too, but I wouldn't give myself false hopes. In the end, they're just going to be crushed.
"Hey, Scaramouche, are you okay?"
Her overly protective sensor detected the insecurity I felt. I couldn't help but not be mad at her.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry about me."
She almost looked as if she wanted to ask me if I was fine, but she didn't, probably to avoid unnecessary arguing.
I saw a school in the horizon. We got closer, and closer until Ei stopped at a sidewalk.
"Well, here you go. Have a good day, Scaramouche,"
"Thanks, you too."
Before leaving, she shouted at me.
"I'm picking you up after school, hear that?"
And then, she drove off, not giving me any choice.
How complicated and reckless she is.
The school buses started to arrive, so in order to avoid being spotted, I ran over to the school as soon as possible. I remember which locker I had: number 21. I just had to try and find where it is.
When I entered the school, there was a massive dining area accessible by some stairs. Those stairs led to corridors and the lockers. I immediately spotted the 21th, it's the first one of the second locker row.
It's so easy to spot that people will be able to come annoy me during breaks and such. What a nuisance.
I opened the locker, placed my bag and the books I didn't need in it, and finally took one binder. I locked the metal closet and consulted my notebook to see with which subject I start.
"Wait... what day are we again...?", I mumbled to myself.
It's understandable! Probably that most transfer students suffer with stuff like that when starting school, you know?
I eventually understood which class I started with and it was... science.
As much as I try to understand school, some subjects I just don't understand. Like stars! For real, teachers may try explaining them to us, what confirms their existence?
But anytime I mentioned that, I was laughed at, so I think I'll pass on unnecessary comments about those subjects.
I tried finding the class to go to, had to ask someone working there. It was a lady, a bit taller than me, with long, brown hair tied in a weird way behind her head. One eye was covered, but the other one was of a bright, magenta tone.
"If you climb up the stairs, take a right and walk until the first classroom you find. You'll figure it out, kid."
Her crude speech matched with her appearance, but I find it weird that someone that seems to think about students as 'kids' decided to work in that domain.
A taller woman, this time, walked towards the brown haired lady. She had white hair, waving with each step she took. Her red eyes matched well her gold and white suit.
"Beidou, it's time to go. Classes are starting and if we're late, you know the students will complain."
"Alright, Ningguang. But I was just helping this kid over here."
The woman named Beidou pointed at me. Ningguang looked at me her eyes widened.
"I never saw you before. Are you a new student?"
I just felt like running away, but it wouldn't be a good idea, especially if one of them ended up being my teacher.
"I'm Scaramouche, a new transfer student.", I said, as politely as possible.
The white-haired woman seemed lost in thought for a moment and after some time, she held up her finger while doing a small "A-ha!" sound.
"Your first class is science, no? Because if I remember well, I heard about you having a class with Timaeus and I actually have to see him now."
The day keeps on getting worse. Now, I'll have to follow that teacher and my classmates will think I'm stupid or something.
"Y-yeah...", I said, my tone becoming colder by the second.
"Alright, follow me. I'll guide you to your class. Beidou, I hope you'll go now. If you get yelled at, it's not my fault."
Beidou chuckled and winked at Ningguang before we left. I followed the teacher up the stairs, we turned right, and she entered the first class which I did, too. The class was full of students. None particularly interested me, though.
Especially with all the mumbling.
I know they're talking about me, but are they trying to tick me off on purpose? If it's true, they're good at it.
Ningguang walked over to the tall, brown haired man who was probably my teacher. They exchanged a few words, she gave him a paper and left the classroom.
The bell rang soon after.
The teacher started rambling about some random science stuff until he noticed me, sitting in the back of the class.
Well, that's the end of me.
"Oh wait, you're the new transfer student! Stand up and please introduce yourself!", he said, happily.
It was far from making me happy, though.
"My name's Scaramouche and that's basically all you need to know about me.", I said. I immediately sat down after.
I'm not wrong though. You only need to know the name of the person and then you go talk to them if you want to. No problem at all.
The teacher didn't even seem to care, as he continued on his stupid rambling.
And so that was the whole class. I didn't remember a thing, I wasn't even interested. The bell rang. Finally, some peace.
Until I realized I had to get to the cafeteria.
No, it wasn't worth a chance.
Instead, I stayed outside of the school for the entire break. There was a free bench placed between two trees. The perfect place for peace.
I should probably come here for lunch.
The bell rang, once again, and I navigated the school in hopes of finding my classroom. I did, luckily. It was a grammar lesson.
This time, the teacher didn't even seem to acknowledge me and just continued with their lesson without interrupting for me. The ideal teacher, I'd say.
I sat through that entire lesson without falling asleep, I don't know how I did it. Grammar is okay, but not interesting at all.
The bell eventually rang, once again. I exited my classroom and took my lunch outside, but...
My new spot was taken.
I'm ready to die now.
Having no other choice because Ei would be mad at me, I went back inside and found a spot at the end of a table, far from people.
And then, there was a group of people headed my way.
Screw school, I'm leaving.
But before standing up, there was this one tall boy, probably a higher grade than me, holding my wrist.
"You're the new transfer student, eh?", he asked curiously.
I didn't answer. I didn't want to.
I hate people.
That was until that guy slapped my face.
"Despite all the crazy rumours about you...
...you're not a fearsome as people say you are."
That's it. I just wanted to go ahead and fight him.
I didn't deserve his crap. And what did I even do to him in the first place?
When I was about to punch him back, something stopped me.
Or rather, someone.
"You shouldn't prey on people like that."
Their calm voice had a sharp tone to it. Almost like a warning.
"And what do you have to say about that? I don't even know you, why should I fear you?", shouted the guy.
"Oh, you'd better listen to what I say or you'll be stuck with greater trouble. How would you like having a chat with the principal?"
The tall guy let go of my arm aggressively and whispered in my ear before leaving.
"Next time I see you, you're dead."
I couldn't say I was threatened, but I do believe that meeting him again would mean trouble. I wanted to leave but figured I couldn't go after them. Instead, I sat down, despite the nerve-wracking murmurs going on in the cafeteria.
The boy that helped me out sat in front of me. I should thank him.
"Thank yβ"
He put his finger in front of his mouth to tell me to stop talking and smiled.
"No need to thank me, I only did what was necessary."
He held out his hand to me.
"I'm Kaedehara Kazuha. Call me Kazuha."
I decided to take his hand and introduced myself, too.
"I'm Scaramouche."
He shook my hand and let it go.
"Nice to meet you, Scaramouche!"
His smile was oddly comforting. For a reason, I would've loved for it to stay on his face. Still, it slowly started to fade away.
He got up and waved to a person far away.
"Oh, you know what? Why don't you come eat with me tomorrow? At this table.", he asked.
So someone actually wanted to talk to me. And for once, someone that seemed sincere.
I had no reason to decline.
But still...
"But I just met you...?"
"Don't worry, don't worry! It'll be fun, I promise.", he said sincerely.
I hesitated for a while, but decided to give him my answer.
"Alright, I'll see you there."
*After the school day*
"How was your first day of school, Scaramouche?"
I was hesitating to tell her something, but it couldn't hurt.
"I made a friend... I guess."
She didn't say anything in order to keep the peace between us, but a giant smile appeared on her face. Ei probably thought I would have difficulty making friends, and having one on the first day must've given her some relief.
"I hope this person will be a better friend to you than anyone you knew previously.", she said.
"I hope so, too."
The entire ride was silent, once again. Arriving at my place, I immediately went in my room and got out the small diary I kept to keep my anger issues in check.
But this time, it would just be to write about how happy I was when he insisted to lunch with me.
'It has been a while I wrote this, I guess.
I don't have anything frustrating to write here but... instead, it's good news.
Having transferred school, I am judged and stuff, yet, there is still that person that had my back and seemed like they wanted to be my friend.
I hope it'll go well for both of us.'
I closed my diary and jumped on my bed, with my eyes closing.
I'm really glad to have known him already.
Hiiii people!
So I'm back with another (stupid) fanfiction that I hope most of you will like! It is, for now, really funny to write, so I hope most of you will have as much fun reading this than I have writing.
There's not much I will write except that THIS IS AMAZINGLY LONG 2.4k WORDS?! But look, blame it on inspiration.
Well, I'm going now. Enjoy!!
