4. HISTORY
ใ Jungwon's POV ใ
This is Freaky Friday but if you double the freaky and add scary and confusing to it. Huening Kai and Edlynne said that we will save them but instead of getting to the point, they told us an entire story.
Instead of getting straight to the point, Huening Kai and Edlynne decided to give us a history lesson. Apparently, our arrival wasn't some random accident-it was fate.
Huening Kai started.
"The kingdom of Entwurf was created long ago by our father, Alarik. He had been exiled for a crime he didn't commit in a distant land-one so far away that it might as well not exist anymore. With nowhere to go, he wandered aimlessly until he encountered the Four Guardians-beings who protected and nurtured all forms of life. With their guidance, he discovered a hidden land brimming with creatures unknown to any other world. A land untouched by war, unseen by outsiders.
Determined to build a home, he settled there. What began as a simple refuge soon grew into a flourishing kingdom-a safe haven for all magical beings. He named it Entwurf, meaning 'to design,' because he had created it with his own hands. The capital was named Ad Mare, meaning 'to the sea,' as a tribute to the ocean that led him to his new home.
Time passed, and the kingdom thrived. Then, one day, two siblings washed ashore. The girl's name was Nerissa, and the boy's was Cadmodeus. They were welcomed with open arms, and soon, my father and Nerissa fell in love and married. She became queen, and they had two children-me and Edlynne.
Cadmodeus, meanwhile, rose through the ranks and became the kingdom's military general. For years, everything was peaceful under my parents' rule, and the Guardians continued to watch over Entwurf."
Jiwoo interrupted, "You never told us the names of the Guardians."
Huening Kai's expression darkened. "I left them out on purpose," he said flatly.
Edlynne took over. "Their names are sacred. The moment they are spoken, they hear it. We can say them, but you must not repeat them."
That sent a shiver down my spine.
Edlynne continued,
"When our parents grew old, they decided to step down. They asked Huening Kai to take the throne, but he didn't want to rule alone-so he proposed we become joint rulers. On his 21st birthday, the Guardians gifted him the power of flight and immortality. When I turned 18, they granted me telekinesis and teleportation.
My brother, being reckless, attempted to share his immortality with me. It worked-but at a terrible cost. He didn't wake up for days, and the process was deemed too dangerous to attempt again.
After our parents passed, our only remaining family was our uncle, Cadmodeus. He continued his role as military general, ensuring peace. Or so we thought.
One day, during an inspection of the kingdom, Cadmodeus stumbled upon an ancient force-one even the Guardians barely knew of. The Everrock.
It is a force of pure energy, one that strengthens the pure-hearted and corrupts those with darkness in their souls. And it turned out... our uncle had always been bitter. He believed he deserved more than just respect. He wanted the throne. And with the Everrock in his grasp, he set his plan into motion.
The Guardians tried to stop him, but the Everrock's power was unlike anything they had faced before. Avyanna, the Guardian who could warp reality, discovered Cadmodeus' plan to eliminate us. To protect us, she used her power to make him believe he had succeeded. In reality, we were made invisible, untouchable-ghosts in our own home.
But that wasn't enough. Our uncle had grown paranoid, fearing even the Guardians. He shattered the Everrock into pieces and hid them across the land, each guarded by a new protector under his control. Then, using his newfound power, he erased us from history. No one remembered us-not our people, not the land itself.
Entwurf, once a single kingdom, was fractured into ten realms, all ruled by him. The Guardians, their memories wiped, fell under his control. The kingdom that was once a haven became a prison.
And so, for over a thousand years, we have remained forgotten, powerless to fight back."
Silence filled the room. The weight of their words settled like a stone in my chest.
Finally, I spoke up. "You still haven't told us what this has to do with us."
Edlynne's gaze was unwavering. "There was a prophecy. The Guardians foretold that ten people would come-each possessing a gift tied to the realms, each connected to a fragment of the Everrock. Those ten would be the ones to break Cadmodeus' hold and restore Entwurf."
Bae scoffed. "And you think we're those ten?"
Huening Kai nodded. "Each of you has a special gift, don't you?"
We exchanged glances. If we had really been pulled into this game, then we weren't just ourselves anymore-we had become our avatars.
This is literally Jumanji, I thought grimly.
Edlynne took our silence as confirmation. "Then it's decided. You will begin the Quest for the Everrock."
I shifted uncomfortably. "And what if we just want to go home?" Yuna Noona asked.
Huening Kai's expression was unreadable. "The only way back is through the Minaret of the Four-the home of the Guardians. It's located in Ad Mare, but the only way to reach it is by passing through all ten realms. And the only way to undo Cadmodeus' rule is by reuniting the Everrock."
Jinni groaned. "So basically, we don't have a choice."
"Neither do we," Edlynne replied, still eerily calm.
One by one, we nodded.
Huening Kai clapped his hands. "Good. You should rest-we have a long journey ahead of us."
I flopped back onto the cushions, staring at the ceiling.
What have we gotten ourselves into?
