Paul awoke early in the morning, his mind had been occupied by dreams. Dreams about a desert planet, war and most importantly Aliyah, his best friend. The dreams showed her undeniable beauty, as she stood in the desert, her hair flowing in the wind.
But that's all it was, a dream.
He sat up, breathing in deeply, he knew it was wrong. He shouldn't be dreaming of his best friend like that, but in all honesty, it wasn't the first time. She was always plaguing his mind, not that he was complaining.
He has loved her since he met her, ten years ago. Her father George, had fallen ill, her mother had died two years previous. Their fathers were close friends, so of course Leto offered to take in Aliyah.
Paul had warmed to her instantly. It was nice to have someone his age to get up to no good with. They were each others partners in crime, they were never without the other, they simply belonged.
Trying his best to push his dreams out of his mind, he got out of bed, changing his clothes, before leaving his room, to go to hers, which was directly opposite his. He gently knocked on the door to see if she was awake.
"Coming Paul" a gentle female voice called. He smiled at the voice, it was so soothing.
Aliyah opened the door, smiling as she saw her best friend, closing the door after her she turned to him.
"Did you sleep well?" She asked taking her hand in his, interlinking them.
"No not really. You know I sleep better when your with me" he told her in a longing voice.
"I know, I'm sorry about that. But every now and then I must sleep in my own bed" she smiled with a teasing look.
He simply laughed, as he walked a little ahead, dragging Aliyah by his hand.
Finally the two made it to the dining table, sitting opposite each other, as breakfast was served. Lady Jessica, Paul's mother joined them as well. She had been like a mother to Aliyah too, as she had never had one.
"It's good you two are up early. Your father wants you in full dress before the emperors Herald arrives" Jessica said taking a bite of her food.
"Full dress? Military?" Paul questions, hoping that it was.
"Ceremonial" Lady Jessica replies with a nonchalant tone, knowing her son wouldn't be happy.
"Why do we have to go through all this when it's already been decided?" Paul said unhappy about their situation.
"Would you two like some water?" She asks trying to change the subject. Both nodded, as they indulged in their breakfast.
"If you want it, make me give it to you. Use the voice." Lady Jessica commanded.
"Mom, we just woke up, and I don't know about Aliyah but I didn't sleep great." He said, but it didn't change his mothers mind.
"Liyah, you first" Jessica ordered to the girl. Aliyah sighed, before eventually doing what she was told. "Give me the water" she said in a menacing tone. Jessica handed her the water as soon as she asked.
"Very good" Jessica told her, when she snapped back into reality. "Now, Paul your turn" she added.
Paul rolled his eyes "Give me the water" he mumbled, putting no effort in whatsoever.
"The glass can't hear you. Command me" His mother told him. After a moment, he tried again.
"Give me the water" he told her, this time trying harder. It worked very well, before his mother snapped back to reality, but nonetheless smiling, happy with his attempt.
"Almost" she told him. "Almost?" He mumbled, clearly unhappy.
"Bene Gesserit skills take years to learn Paul. Aliyah can do it quicker because she is a woman you must understand that" she said.
"It was very good Paul" Aliyah smiled at him, throwing a piece of crust at him, and he returned the favor, smiling as he did.
Jessica smiled slightly before saying.
"You look tired Paul. More dreams?" Paul's mind flashed back to his dreams of Aliyah, his cheeks growing red, knowing she was opposite him.
"No" he lied, not wanting to talk about it.Aliyah gave him a look, before they both went back to eating breakfast, a comfortable silence taking over the three.

Later that morning, Paul and Aliyah sat on Paul's bed, reading and listening to an audio about Arrakis, where they were to go. Aliyah sighed, resting her head on Paul's shoulder.
As Paul listened and read about the Fremen people, he had visions of them standing in the desert, almost like his dreams. "Paul? Are you alright?" Aliyah sat up, looking at him.
"I've been having dreams. Dreams about Arrakis, the desert, the spice, everything." He said, leaving out the part of her. "You must tell your mother" She said.
"She knows my dreams pass, there's no need to worry her" he said looking down at the book.
"Just know that I'm here ok, I'll always be at your side" Aliyah said before placing her head back on his shoulder. He returned the favour leaning his head on hers, and putting his left arm around her.

Later on, Paul, Aliyah, Leto, Lady Jessica and the rest of the house of Atreides stood, watching the Emperors Heralds ship to land. Aliyah had on a long dark blue dress, with a light veil covering her face. "You look pretty Liyah" Paul said to the girl on his right.
"Thank you Paul, you don't look so bad yourself" She said smiling at him. They watched as Leto met the Herald, who began to talk. Aliyah found him to be quite boring, but listens when he said
"House Atreides shall immediately take control of Arrakis, and serve as its steward. Do you accept?" He asked.
"We are house Atreides. There is no call we do not answer, there is no faith that we betray" Leto says, and continues talking.
Aliyah noticed Paul tensing up beside her, and she took his hand in her own, giving him a reassuring smile. Eventually Leto dipped his ring in wax and finalised the agreement for them to take over Arrakis.

A few days later, Paul and Aliyah ran into the aircraft quarters, hand in hand, both excited to see their friend Duncan. "Duncan" Paul said walking up to him.
"My boy!" He replied hugging him.
Duncan then turned to Aliyah and said
"Is that little Liyah too?" Hugging her tightly, to which she laughed at.
"So your going to Arrakis tomorrow. With the advance team?" Paul said, with Aliyah leaning into his side.
"Yes I'm going to Arrakis tomorrow with the advance team" Duncan laughed already knowing what was going on.
"I'd like you to take me and Liyah with you" he said, looking down at Aliyah for a moment.
"You would? Well that's too bad, cause no" Duncan did hitting his chest. Aliyah sighed, before saying."I'm going to help the pilots prepare for tomorrow" with a bored expression.
The two nodded at her."Duncan, can I trust you with something?" Paul asked.
"Sure anything" he answered wondering what the young man was going to tell him.
Paul sighed, suddenly becoming nervous.
"I've been having dreams, about Arrakis, the Fremen, Aliyah too" He admitted.
"Okay, so? I'm not stupid I know you two got a thing for each other" Duncan said rolling his eyes as he fixed something on his plane.
Paul scoffed before continuing."I saw you, with the Fremen"
"Ah, so I do find them" Duncan smirked as he turned.
"I saw you lying dead, fallen in battle, I felt like if I had been there, you'd be alive" Paul admitted, his face going pale. "I haven't told anyone this part, not even Aliyah." Paul added.
"First off, I'm not gonna die" Duncan said.
"Your not taking me seriously!" Paul whisper-yelled as frustration took over his body.
"That's why you wanna come with me? Dreams make good stories, but everything important happens when your awake. Cause that's when we make things happen" Duncan said
"Look at you, put on some muscle?" Duncan said. "I did?" Paul asked.
"No" Duncan said smiling and walking away.

Later that night Aliyah sat in Paul's bed, with a light blue night dress on, reading a book. She was waiting for Paul to return with a walk with his dad. Paul swung his door open, smiling as he saw Aliyah in his bed.
"How'd it go?" Aliyah asked in a sweet tone.
"Alright , father wants me at his side for Arrakis, meaning you too" Paul said as he began to change into something more comfortable, Aliyah Turing to give him privacy.
"Good, that means he trusts you Paul" Aliyah said softly. Paul nodded, hopping into the bed, pulling the cover over the two of them.Aliyah turned and leant her head on Paul's bare chest, getting more tired.
"Hey did you know he wanted to be a pilot?" Paul asked you with a surprised voice.
"Really? Although, I do see him as the pilot type" you answered shocked at his words.
"Mm" Paul said back. "Liyah, promise me something" Paul said looking down into her eyes.
"Anything" she answered back immediately.
"Promise you'll stay with me for as long as I live?" He asked, placing his hand over your back. "I promise" she smiled, before Turing off the light and kissing his cheek.
