Childe put his phone to sleep and exhaled deeply, laying back on his bed. He was glad you weren't with that sicko anymore, but he was still depressed that you didn't share his feelings. And even worse, you completely shut down his attempt to make a move. He wouldn't blame you for not having romantic feelings for him, of course, but the embarrassment was still melting him from the inside out.

He glanced over at the wall where a bunch of his pictures resided. One of them was of your entire friend group, at a concert that he paid for. You had the biggest grin of your life, and looking at the photo of it always made him smile. His lips tugged upward the slightest bit, though it was subtle and even he didn't notice.

He sat upright and clicked his tongue, wondering what to do to cure his boredom. After coming up with zero ideas, he sighed and opened his phone again, clicking on his contact list.

Rich Ginger
Hi

He chuckled dryly at his own name. You'd changed it a while back, when you stole his phone, and he never bothered to switch it. He did admit, he was a rich ginger.

The Smartest One๐Ÿ
Childe? You haven't spoken to any of us in a while, are you alright?

Rich Ginger
I'm fine dw. I just need some advice if you don't mind

The Smartest One๐Ÿ

Of course, what is it?

Rich Ginger
It's about Y/n
I like her a lot, and I confessed a while ago but she rejected me
How am I supposed to face her now???

The Smartest One๐Ÿ
That's why you haven't been to school?

Rich Ginger
Yea pretty much

The Smartest One๐Ÿ
...Okay. I think it'll be easier than you imagine. Knowing Y/n, I'm sure she's very worried about you. She'll just be glad to see you again.

Rich Ginger
I guess... But what if it's super awkward

The Smartest One๐Ÿ
Things will go to normal in time. Would you rather never have a chance of being her friend again?

Rich Ginger
No...

The Smartest One๐Ÿ

Then I suggest you attend school on Monday.

Rich Ginger
Okay. Thanks, Kazuha.

The Smartest One๐Ÿ
Of course. I'll look forward to seeing you ^^

After exiting the conversation, he glanced at all his contacts for the friend group. Thoma was named The Malewife, Ayaka was The Princess, Kazuha was The Smartest One, and you were The Prettiest One.

He clicked on the details for your contact and edited the name, changing it to just Y/n. He sighed.

It was snowing.

M/n looked out the window, observing each snowflake as they drifted down, soon to create ice on the roads. Her expression showed no emotion, but inside, she felt like her soul was swallowing her heart. All she ever thought about when it snowed was Signora. She had such high hopes for her oldest daughter. Signora was destined to attend a high-ranking school, and she never let other people influence her. M/n never even thought about her expectations for you because all she'd need to live a comfortable life in the future would be Signora, since she would certainly be capable of getting a well paying job.

When the accident happened, everything changed.

You became more rebellious, her husband left her, her beloved daughter was dead, and she had to move away to distance herself from it all. Her new plan relied on you to get enough money to take care of her so she wouldn't have to work, but after the accident, your grades began slipping and her life was falling apart.

Everything fell apart.

You stepped down the stairs, ignoring your mother's presence as you went to make yourself dinner. She glanced over and her gaze hardened at the sight of you, but she didn't say a word. She only thought:

The bane of my existence.

You were slightly disturbed by her silence as the moonlight glowed through the window, reflecting in her eyes. You could tell what she was thinking about, and you were worried she'd snap at you, but you remained silent and ate in order to hopefully avoid provoking her. When you finished, you washed off your plate in the sink and placed it in the dishwasher. As you were about to speed upstairs, M/n spoke.

"You remember it vividly, don't you?"

You froze. The image of Signora's deceased figure flashed through your mind and your voice shook as you answered.

"Um, yes..."

She turned her head to look at you, noting how you already had one foot on the stair, "Describe it for me."

"Mom, I really don't want to talk about this..."

"You can at least tell me what she looked like. Or her last words. I was her mother and you never bothered to tell me what she last said to you."

"You're my mother, too, and you never bothered to comfort me," you whimpered, almost so quietly she couldn't hear. But she did.

"Excuse me?"

"I was the one who had to watch and hear her die," you said, slowly encouraging yourself to raise your voice. "You didn't."

"It doesn't matter who watched her and who didn't, Y/n," she scoffed. "Stop making excuses for yourself. She's still dead."

Your blood boiled at her words. Seeing your sister die was the most traumatic event you ever had the displeasure of experiencing, and it didn't matter?

"It does matter!" You cried, tears piercing your eyes and causing your vision to blur. "I can barely even think about her anymore without imagining how she looked when she died! Don't act like you know what I'm going through when you obviously don't!"

"Do not raise your voice at me, young lady."

"Oh, but you can yell at me, right?!" You retorted.

"Go to your room, Y/n."

"No! You need to understand-"

You snipped the final cord holding her together and she snapped.

"There's nothing to understand, Y/n! You killed her, that's what I understand! You murdered my daughter who actually had a chance at life and I was left with a mistake!"

Her voice boomed through the room and you gasped as the tears finally dropped from your eyes and splashed on the floor.

"That's... That's not true."

"It is, Y/n! You're the one who distracted her, aren't you?! She drove on ice perfectly fine before that, but you made her lose focus and look where she ended up! She's dead, because of you!"

You gritted your teeth and created a storm of noise as your feet thrashed against the wooden steps. You dashed into your bedroom and slammed the door, forcing your back against it and sliding to the floor. You sucked in a breath and thought back to that day. You choked on your own breath and sent yourself into a coughing fit, which caused your head to grow even more heavy.

You could still hear her screaming incoherent curses and slamming on the counters in the kitchen. You covered your ears in a desperate attempt to shield yourself from her wrath, despite her not being near you. It didn't work. You screamed for a moment until you coughed again and the tears spilled onto the floor, creating a puddle where you sat. You couldn't see and your brain was throwing itself against the walls of your skull, creating an insufferable headache that you couldn't escape from.

"No, no, please stop..." You cried and flinched while the banging continued, as if everything in the house were your mother's punching bag.

"Help..." You whimpered.

You tried imagining a feather to ease your breathing, but it didn't work as you continued sobbing uncontrollably. You grabbed a fistful of your shirt over your heart. It was a futile attempt to grasp your heart and crush it so you wouldn't have to feel anymore. You just wanted someone to help you.

You frantically reached into your pocket and grabbed your phone, accidentally dropping it as you took it out. You got hold of it again as quickly as possible and typed in your password, scrolling through your contacts. The bright screen stung your eyes against the dark background of your room, but you didn't care. You pressed on a number and called, your breathing speeding up from the anxiety as it rang a few times. You didn't even know what time it was.

"Hello?"

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!"

"W-What? Y/n, what's wrong? What's going on?"

"I'm sorry for ever being mean to you or any of your friends, I'm sorry for arguing all the time, I'm sorry for being so stubborn, I'm sorry I'm such a sore loser, I'm sorry but I just really need someone to help me right now!" You sobbed.

"It's okay, Y/n, seriously, it's fine! Just try to breathe and tell me what happened. How can I help?"

"If I could get myself to breathe I fucking would, Gorou!"

"Okay, okay! Uhm, try inhaling and counting to five before exhaling! Maybe that'll help?" He suggested.

It took you a minute to stop breathing quickly, and your breath was still shaky as you inhaled, but you managed to do it. After what felt like an endless amount of times, you weren't hyperventilating anymore. Only crying.

Relief.

Gorou waited anxiously on the other end of the phone, "Are you okay...?"

"No, I'm not okay," you sniffled, wiping your eyes as you continued steadying your breathing.

"Do you want to tell me what happened?" He asked.

"I guess..."

Suddenly, the sound of glass shattering momentarily put you back into a state of panic. But then all the noise stopped.

"What was that!?" Gorou exclaimed.

"My mom..." You exhaled. "I-Ignore it."

"That was your mom!? Are you safe there? Do you need someone to go get you?"

"I'm fine, but thanks. She wouldn't actually hurt me. Just our windows, apparently..." You sighed. "Ew, my voice sounds so weird..."

"No, it doesn't. Don't try to get off topic, what happened?"

"Well I fought with my mom, obviously... About my sister."

"...You have a sister?"

"I had one. She died. It was the reason we moved to Inazuma," you mumbled, climbing onto your bed with your phone pressed to your ear. "It was a car crash because of ice on the roads. I was in the car, so... My mom blames me, but she never actually said it until earlier..."

"That's awful... I'm sorry," he whispered.

You laid on your back and stared up at the ceiling, "Thanks. Wait, what time is it? I didn't check..."

You pulled your phone away from your ear to look and saw that it was almost 2 am. You raised your eyebrows and held the screen close to your ear again. "It's 2 in the morning!? Why are you up this late?"

"I have trouble sleeping. But that's not important right now," he pointed out.

"Oh, okay..."

"How can I help you feel better?" He queried.

"Just talk to me, I guess... I dunno. Unless your insomnia plans on leaving sometime soon."

"It doesn't," he responded, laying down on his side and putting you on speaker as he set the phone down beside him. "Hey, um..."

"Hm?"

"If it'll help at all, there's a carnival going on tomorrow. We could... go... If you want. Y'know, to get out of the house and stuff."

You let out a dry laugh, though it was still clear you were crying, "Did you just invite me to a carnival?"

"Y-Yeah, is that a bad thing?" He stammered.

"No, it's just really clichรฉ," you smiled. "But yeah. Sure. As long as it's later in the day, though, 'cause I don't wanna be tired the whole time."

"Yeah, we can do that," he grinned, and you could hear it through his voice. You could also hear his tail thumping against the blankets under him.

"Is your tail wagging?"

"W-What? No!"

"You're the worst liar, it totally is."

"Next topic, please!"
