"Daddy, where are you going...?"

"Nowhere, sweetie. I'll be back before you know it."

"But it's so late... Why are you going out when Mommy's asleep?"

"I'm... going to get you a present!"

"Really?"

"Of course. You're so strong, with how you're handling your sister's death. You deserve a reward."

"Thank you! Bye, Daddy!"

"Bye, Y/n."

And just like that, he disappeared.

"Oh? Uh, Y/n, what are you doing out here so late?"

"General Gorou... I was just thinking."

"About what, exactly...?"

"I wrote a letter."

"For your family?"

"For anyone who'll read it and know who I was."

You reluctantly tried to compliment him as an attempt to get along with him, "...You did better that time."

"...You, too," he replied, though he didn't fully mean it.

"Well, at least you're not arguing..." Kazuha stated. "But this is very awkward."

"Yeah," you and Gorou agreed simultaneously.

"I don't think the pacing between the lines was right," you said.

"It... sounded off," Gorou agreed. "I hate agreeing with you."

"I hate it too, but at least that means we both have braincells," you responded, narrowing your eyes at him. "Even if-"

Kazuha abruptly cleared his throat, cutting you off before you could insult him. You realized your mistake.

"Sorry."

Gorou rolled his eyes at your behavior, unamused by your inability to keep your mouth shut. Over the previous couple of days, you and him tried getting along to the best of your abilities. He was doing much better than you, which pissed you off.

"Can we take a break?" Gorou requested, looking to Kazuha for permission. He basically ended up being your guardian for those sessions.

"Yes."

"Thank god," he sighed with relief.

While the two boys conversated, you stared out the window beside you, observing how the rain splattered on the ground and formed puddles inside holes within the pavement. You didn't feel like talking much; something about you was just so mentally tired. Gorou noticed your odd demeanor, but didn't question you about it. He had no reason to.

"You need to be out of this house by tomorrow morning."

"Wait, Hina, you can't be serious-"

"I'm very serious! If you're so intent on following your passion, then you can leave! It's not like you've been providing support for the kids anyway."

Gorou rubbed his eyes while he approached the stairs that led to the ground floor of the house. He stayed frozen in place so he wouldn't make a noise while he listened to their conversation. He squeezed his stuffed animal tighter.

"They need a father in their lives-"

"And you were never a proper father! You're just living here for free at this point, I'm not taking it anymore! You need to leave!"

"Darling, the kids will hear us-"

"Don't call me that. And they're gonna have to find out either way."

Tears streamed down Gorou's cheeks and he hid his face in his stuffed animal, running back to his room. His parents both heard the footsteps and froze.

"Who do you think that was?" Hina asked.

"Probably Gorou. He's been having trouble sleeping..."

The young boy slowly opened his eyes to reveal that he was still within the depths of night. He sighed and sat upright, rubbing his eyes tiredly. He swung his legs over the side of the bed and turned the lamp on while it sat on the nightstand next to his bed. Beside the light source was the small dog plush he'd hugged desperately on the night his dad was kicked out. He still remembered how it felt; empty yet overwhelming at the same time. Ever since then, he had trouble staying asleep. He looked around his bedroom, as if it was the first time he'd seen it, and exhaled.

Meanwhile, you couldn't sleep and you felt like you needed some type of romantic comfort, so you messaged Scaramouche. Not long after, he showed up at your window, throwing pebbles at it. You opened the window and looked down at him.

"Really?" You asked.

"Yep. You comin' down or what?"

This was definitely a romantic scenario you fantasized about. You smiled and nodded before grabbing a jacket. You carefully made your way downstairs, making sure your mom didn't hear, and left the house. Scaramouche was already waiting for you there.

"Took you long enough," he smirked.

You rolled your eyes playfully, "Shut up, I took two seconds."

He wrapped an arm around you and began leading you someplace. You wondered where he was taking you, but you soon found yourselves at the nearest park. It looked abandoned during nighttime, no one running or walking their dogs. Just you. You grinned childishly and sat on one of the swings on the set, while Scaramouche occupied the other one.

"Anything on your mind?" He asked.

"I was just thinking about my dad," you sighed.

He honestly didn't know what you were talking about, or what happened with your dad, but from how you said it, he suspected you already told him and he forgot.

"Do you... wanna talk about it?"

Understanding the discomfort of family troubles, he decided to offer you a place to vent.

"Not really," you shrugged. "Just frustrates me that he didn't even tell me he was gonna leave. He just walked out the door and poof, gone."

Scaramouche nodded before a smirk took over his face, "Well, I know how I can cheer you up."

"And how's that?"

He stood up and stepped in front of you, causing you to rise to your feet as well. One of his arms slithered around your waist, pulling you closer to him. His smirk transformed into a mischievous grin.

"How about I tire you out so you can rest easy?"

These were the types of moments you were in a relationship for.

That morning, you woke up to your phone buzzing, the ringing irritating you until you were willing to actually throw your phone out the window. Well, until you saw it was Thoma calling you. You slid on the accept button and held the device up to your ear.

"What is it? You woke me up..." You grumbled.

"I wanna confess to Ayaka today!"

"Thoma, can't we talk about this at school?" You sighed, forcing yourself out of bed and over to the closet to grab clothes for the day. "And why today, anyway?"

"I heard about someone else wanting to confess to her," he answered. "So I need to do it first."

"Oh? How did you hear about that?"

"...They told me."

"Damn. Advantages of being trustworthy."

"Yeah," he said. "Will you help me? Please?"

"Sure, I guess, but I don't see how I'm gonna help."

"You're the only one in our group who's actually in a relationship," he pointed out.

At that comment, you were reminded of the previous night. It got a bit heated, but you stopped it before it went too far. Thank god. Now that you were in your right mind, you knew you would've regretted it if things went that far.

"Alright, fine. I'll try."

"Thanks! You're the best!"

"Yep... I know..."
