as fine arts majors, mina, hanta and i didn't have much use for the library. most of our finals were performative and most of the information we could just find online. so there was only such little that would keep us busy like the others.
sure, we tried to study but then mina tapped hanta, dragging me away from the table where the others were sitting, shouting "tag!"
we ran down the book aisles and filled the library with giggles. we calmed down a bit after that, deciding to see who could take the ugliest picture to set as the library computers' background.
after a while, it was all of us taking ugly photos together and snorting and cackling.
"shhh!" a student exclaimed.
we stuck our tongues at them but decided that the pictures were no longer worth our time. tired, we headed towards the bean bags. we collapsed and sighed.
"mmm! y/n!" mina shot up, her energy still puzzling me.
"yes?"
"why were you out so early this morning?" she asked, sitting to face me.
hanta raised his head from resting on the bean bag, suddenly intrigued.
"oh, um," i shuffled on the bean bag, "shinso called me this morning."
"ah! shut up! what did he say?" mina clapped her hands together, supporting her head on them.
"wait, who?" hanta asked.
"ah, this totally bangable student from the photography class we were paired up with. y/n and him have history though."
i squirmed under the gaze of my two friends. "um, yeah, so basically... he and i used to bully each other."
hanta's jaw dropped. "wait, for real?"
i nodded my head, flushing.
"and why did he call you this morning?" he asked.
"well, that's the thing. he said it was just to ask about the project, because we were paired together, but he honestly could've just texted me if he need something!" i huffed, still upset at being up so early.
"but you left the dorm, where'd you go?" mina poked.
"oh." i fidgeted with a stray string on the bean bag. "he asked me to meet him at this cafe a few minutes from the dorms."
"ohh, that's where you got the food, right?" hanta connected.
i nodded my head. "yeah, and we just talked."
"about what?" mina gasped, "oh my god, did he buy the pastries for you?!"
"no, i bought those myself. he did offer to buy me a drink though."
"ooo, a gentleman." mina and hanta wiggled their eyebrows at each other.
"but for realsies, what else happened? what did you guys talk about?" mina drawed out.
"i don't know, mina. we just talked about the project and about when we would meet for it and then-"
the flinch.
"and then what?" mina asked, but softer this time, like she knew.
i nibbled on my bottom lip. "um, well, he reached for my hand when i stood up to leave."
my saliva felt harder to swallow and my throat felt like it was closing up. "i, um, i flinched away."
i closed my eyes, needing to take a breath.
when i opened them, mina and hanta's gazes were softer, more serious.
"but, i don't know," i chuckled nervously. "i was running on a few hours of sleep, you know?"
"you don't have to make excuses for us, y/n." hanta said softly. i smiled at him.
"thanks."
"yeah, sorry i pushed, y/n.." mina apologized.
"no! it's fine, really. i just hate that i was a shitty person back then, you know?" i spoke, "we both hurt each other. we were really mean and even hurt each other psychically."
they nodded in acknowledgement but i kept my gaze strong, "makes me wonder what it would've been like if i met you guys before all this."
"i don't know, i was pretty embarrassing so maybe it's for the better we met here." hanta considered.
mina chimed in with a laugh, "yes! he was embarrassing. oh my god, let me tell you about this one time."
-
hanta and mina shared multiple high school stories with me, distracting me. "and that's why we're not allowed in any chuck e. cheese's near our old school."
"what the fuck?" i cackled. "you guys were fucking crazy."
they both crinkled their noses at me but nodded.
"hey, you guys." denki came into the room, plopping next to me, bumping shoulders.
"hey." we greeted back.
"you done studying, smart guy?" i teased, taking some of his hair between my hands and started to braid.
"haha," he laughed sarcastically, but laid down his head on my lap so i could continue braiding more comfortably. "yeah, i finished. baku and kiri are still working though."
"yeah, we figured those nerds would take this more seriously." mina snickered.
a vibration from my bag interrupted us, and denki handed me my bag.

i glanced up, noticed that all of my friends were now looking at me. "what?"
"who was it?" mina asked, as nonchalant as possible.
"um, it was shinso."
mina practically beamed, bouncing in her bean bag. "ah! what did he say?"
"he's saying he can meet right now. but i don't have my dance shoes or my notes. and plus, i'm with you guys." i said, putting my phone down and continuing with the unfinished braid in denki's hair.
"ah, ah, ah." mina tutted, "i'll walk back to the dorms with you! and i'll drive you to whenever he wants to meet!"
"wait, who's shinso?" denki tilted his head.
"we can all go with y/n! and we'll explain what happened to denki on the way." mina bounced, brushing her jean shorts and leggings off.
they all seemed to look up at me, asking for an answer or permission.

"alright. autobots, roll out." i pointed to the doorway.
"you're dumb." the three giggled.

mina sent a quick text to eijiro to let him know that we were leaving and we headed out to the dorms.
we got back to the apartment and the others waited in the living room while i changed.
i looked at myself in the floor length mirror behind my door. i was wearing black leggings, along with a black leotard and slipped into my pair of slides from earlier. i threw on another pair of grey sweats and the same hoodie from this morning. i threw my notes on my figures into my bag too.
one last check in the mirror and i headed out to the living room. "alright, let's ride."
-
i felt a bit jittery, walking to the quad. there was small chatter between us and we had already explained things to denki.
i ran through steps in my head to distract myself. once we had reached the quad, it only took a moment to find shinso.
"look! he has purple hair!" mina exclaimed quietly, pulling on hanta's arm.
shinso seemed to be a pro at noticing people who approached him as he lifted his head up. his hair was still up in the bun from this morning. i look down at his hands and noticed he had been adjusting a camera.
"hey." he greeted, calm and composed.
"um, hi."
we held eye contact for a moment before he glanced behind me. "you brought friends?"
"oh, yeah, sorry. we wer-"
"hi! sorry, we tagged along." mina interrupted. "we were with y/n before you called her over here and we decided to make sure she got here safe. you never know."
shinso nodded, small pieces of hair that framed his face bobbing. "well, i don't mind an audience. i guess."
"oh, don't worry about that!" denki said this time. "we'll find a bench to sit at. we won't bother you guys at all."
all three turned to wink at me and headed off to find said bench. shinso and i watched the array of heads wonder off.
"right, so your figures?" shinso said, getting straight to the point.
"oh, right!" i pulled out pieces of paper from my bag and set them on the fountain, hoping that they wouldn't get wet.
shinso leaned over, turning the pages towards him and read them. he muttered under his breath and nodded at things.
"okay," he took the camera and stood up. "can you show me some of these? we can take a few practice shots and i'll get them developed. we can meet again later to review them, so we're both happy with the results."
i flushed, i wasn't shy or anything when it came to dance but the thought of dancing in front of shinso made me fidget.
"yeah, um, i have to take my clothes off," i stared at my slides. i didn't catch it but shinso's eyebrows shot to his hairline.
"i have my stuff under." i tried to clarify, noticing how i worded my sentence.
"oh. okay." he let go off the camera and i noticed the strap that held it around his neck.
"um, do you need to stretch or something?" he asked.
i cursed under my breath, "yeah, i forgot to before i left my dorm."
"okay, do that and i'll take your clothes to your friends." shinso offered. "you don't want to risk them getting wet.
i nodded and slipped my hoodie off, shinso held out his hands and turned to look off to the side. i placed the hoodie in his hands and continued to shimmy off my sweats. i placed it in his arms and he headed off towards our right.
i kicked my sides off and reached into my bag for my shoes. i tried to tie them as quickly as i could so i could start stretching.
as i stretched, i turned to my right and even from a distance i could see mina's figure bouncing as she talked to shinso. i smiled and finished stretching.
i ran through the five positions before shinso returned, as well as a few of my figures' moves.
"okay, ready?" shinso asked, camera in hand.
"yeah."
-
at the end, we had taken quite a few pictures. shinso was a natural behind the camera and knew what to say to help the person in front of it. it was shinso that had suggested to run through some choreography to try to get as many moves photographed as possible.
once we finished, my chest was rising up and down. it was always freeing to dance, i loved to feel how i could lost myself only to find i had been there all along. as clichΓ© as it was, with multiple people probably feeling the same, that was how i felt.
shinso clicked through the photos he had taken. "okay, they look pretty good. i could probably get them developed by saturday, like we had set up before."
i smiled, glad we had gotten some progress for the final. "yeah, that sounds good."
i sat on the floor, untying my shoes and putting them back into my bag. i heard shinso collect my papers, he handed them to me as i slipped my feet back into my slides.
"thank you."
"no problem."
we walked to my friends who were lost in a conversation.
"no, we probably can't go without it being weird if he's going to be there. you know how he gets, denki."
"hey." i greeted and mina turned to face me.
"welcome back, miss prima ballerina." mina welcomed, unfolding my clothes and handing me my sweater.
"put these on before you get sick!" mina instructed.
"okay, mom." i rolled my eyes but quickly shimmied back into my clothes.
"well, i should get going. i have to sign up for the photo developments because professor aizawa hates letting students in unsupervised." shinso announced, hands still on his camera.
"ah, no, hitoshi. it's so early, come join us for a late lunch or early dinner. you pick your poison." mina proposed.
my eyebrows shot up, 'hitoshi???'
"no, thank you, mina." shinso politely declined. "i really should run, i want to have the photos developed by saturday and i'm not sure how long the list is by now."
hanta turned to me and explained how they had introduced each other while shinso had brought my clothes over to them.
"ah, you have plans for this saturday?" mina inquiried, a mischievous tone lacing her words.
"oh," shinso's gaze flickered to me. "yeah, something like that."
he said goodbye once more and i watched his retreating figure leave.
"ohhhh! she's got it bad!" denki shouted, clapping his hands together.
"shut up, you willy." i flipped him off, climbing onto the table and sitting cross legged on it.
"look at how terrible her insult was, you can't tell me she doesn't at least think he's hot." denki defended, turning to hanta and mina.
we all laughed at how pouty denki had gotten and lingered at the table for another hour.
-
the group had regrouped later at some restaurant on campus. mina, hanta and denki excitedly retold the day's events to a tired katsuki and an equally excited eijiro.
"wow, you guys were out seeing all this happened and i was stuck studying." eijiro pouted.
"don't worry, we can go crash their date next saturday!" denki assured, excitedly patting his friend's back.
"it's not a date, denki." i corrected. "we're only going over our project and setting up things for the final draft."
"but we can still crash it right?" denki put his hands together, puppy eyes pleading.
"let's see how well you behave, puppy." i reach over to scratch denki's chin.
katsuki clicked his tongue disapprovingly. "that's fucking disgusting. don't do that shit near me."
"aww, does wittle katsuki want some scwatches, too?" denki teased.
katsuki flipped him off and continued to eat in silence.
"well, i guess we all have something to look forward to this weekend." eijiro fist bumped his fist together.
