❝ two days later...! ᵕ̈

I've barely moved. I've only moved to go go the toilet. Addy and Cooper have been staying with me and they've been super helpful.

Everytime I look at my stomach, it reminds me of the baby which reminds me of Nate and what he did. It's been 2 days. He's not coming back.

"Yeah, of course. Come." I hear Addy say.
Who's she talking to?

I sit up, surprised to see Kate standing there in my bedroom doorway, giving me a sympathetic smile. Addy's gone to the kitchen, and Kate sits at the end of my bed.

"Hey, Bronwyn. Long time no see."

"Kate! It's good to see you again."

"I heard what happened with Nate."

I grimace. "We don't talk about it."

"Anyways, I was wondering if you want to come with me to Marshall's Peak. Yumiko's back from Japan for a while and she's meeting us there."

I hesitate. No matter how much I want to see Yumiko, that was where my first kiss with Nate was. Too many memories.

"I'm sorry. Maybe another time."

She frowns. "Come on! Yumiko really wants to see you."

"I really don't—"

"Please. This will be the last favour I ever ask of you."

I sigh. "Fine. Let me get cleaned up."

❝ at marshall's peak...! ᵕ̈

"So. Kate. Where is she?"

"Who? Oh, Yumiko? Nah she's still in Japan."

I stare at her. "What? Then why am I here?!"

"Oops, I gotta go to the toilet. Stay here, okay?"

"Wait, I'm not staying—"

I ended up staying because I didn't have a way to get home. I sat on the rock and waited staring at the beautiful sunset that I used to share with Nate.

"Is this rock taken?"

I know that voice. It's the voice that used to bring me joy whenever I heard it. Now it brings anger and hate. I stand up, whip around, shut my eyes, and start.

"I waited two days! I know that doesn't seem like much but it felt like years! I waited and waited and waited! But you never came. You obviously don't care about me at all you inconsolent—"

I break off as I open my eyes. Nate's there, down on one knee, a sparkling ring in his hand.

He's grinning. "Bronwyn Rojas, will you marry me?"

I stare at him. I blink, I rub my eyes, I close them and count to ten, but nothing makes this image go away. Which means it's real. Which means Nate's proposing to me while I'm standing there staring at him.

"Nate... I love you. But, you're only proposing because I'm pregnant. I want you propose because you're ready, and you love me."

"I am. I'm proposing because I love you." He says calmly.

"R-Really?"

"Yeah. I swear." He looks so sincere, his brown eyes smiling.

"Oh. Well. Yes."

His eyes widen. "What was that?"

"YES! It's an absolute yes!"

He stands up and I hug him. I never want to let go. I breath in his boyish scent and his fresh cologne. I pull away and let him put the ring on my finger.

"We're engaged." I whisper.

He grins. "We're engaged." And he kisses me. A thousand sparks fly through me. I wrap my arms around his neck, and he tangles a hand into my hair. Eventually he pulls away, a big smile on his face.

"C'mon. Let's get back home."

❝ at the apartment...! ᵕ̈

He unlocks the door and Addy and Cooper are sitting on the couch, not looking at each other or even talking. Addy looks up.

"You!" She walks over to Nate, and her first connects with his windpipe. Nate doubles over, heaving.

"Nate!" I say frantically.

"I'm... okay..." He wheezes.

Cooper's standing next to Addy now, hands curled into fists. Nate coughs a little and rests his hands on his knees.

"I guess I deserved that huh?" He says tiredly.

"Yeah. You also deserve this." Cooper punches him on the shoulder.

"Oh my God! What is wrong with you guys!" He gasps, clutching his shoulder.

I run to the kitchen and pull a pack of peas from the freezer.

"Here." I hold it against his shoulder.

"Thanks..." He says breathlessly.

Addy stares at me. "Bronwyn what the hell? Aren't you pissed at him?"

"Oh, right. That part." Nate says straightening up and putting an arm around my shoulder. I smile and hold up my hand.

Cooper squints and then gasps. "No way. You proposed?!"

Nate nods.

"Oh my God! Congrats!" Addy exclaims. Then she turns to Nate. "But still, you left her."

Nate sighs. "I know. And I'll never forgive myself for it."

I kiss his cheek. "I forgive you." He gives a small smile.

Addy rolls her eyes. "Fine. I forgive you too. And sorry for punching you."

"Oh uh... me too." Cooper adds hastily.

Nate laughs. "Again. I deserved it."

"We've got to celebrate!" Addy yells.

I wince, then grin. "Alright. Let's have a small party."
