💌 | moving out...!
As I throw my stuff into my suitcase, all I think about is Evan's smug face.
I can't even face Bronwyn right now. It's too bad that when I open the door she's standing right there.
"Hi, Nate. Can we talk before you go?"
I snort. "I don't think your boyfriend would like that."
Bronwyn fiddles with the hem of her shirt- no, my shirt. My favourite Guiness shirt.
"Look, Nate. Things are complicated and I just... I couldn't say no, okay? Just trust me, this'll all be over soon."
My forehead creases. "Trust you? You broke up with me for no reason."
She looks up at me, eyes flaring. "I broke up with you to be with Evan."
"Exactly. Why? I thought we had something." I wait for her response.
Her feet keep shifting. "I just... I had to. Okay?"
"No! No, not okay! That's all I get? I had to?!"
"I don't know what you want me to say, Nate."
"I want you to explain why you really left me."
"I think you should go." She says quietly.
"Really? We're not going to talk about this?" She looks up at me, and only then do I notice tears are trailing down her face. "Don't make this harder than it already is, Nate! God, it's even hard to just say your name." She chokes.
"Bronwyn," I say, putting a hand on her shoulder, "Why did you leave me? I can tell you still love me..."
Finally, she sighs in defeat."I don't love Evan. He's blackmailing me, okay?! I've got no choice..."
I stare at her, my hand still resting on her shoulder. "I assume you weren't supposed to tell me that."
"No. No, I wasn't."
"What has Evan got against you? You're squeaky clean, Bronwyn."
She meets my eyes, and hers soften. "He's got one thing against me... one thing that I would do anything to protect."
"Bronwyn... You can't be serious."
She nods.
"You're in a relationship with that psychopath... for me?"
"No, not you. Maeve."
"Oh... right!" I laugh awkwardly.
She suddenly starts laughing. "Oh your face, Nate! Yes you! Of course it's you."
Relief surges through me. "Wow, okay. But seriously, this is messed up. You can't really- What's he got against me?"
"He's going to plant drugs on you and tip off the police."
"Oh. Yeah. That's serious." I frustratedly run a hand through my hair and watch as Bronwyn's eyes follow my arm. I rest my other hand on her other shoulder.
"Don't worry. I'll get you out of this. Can I tell the others?"
"Yes, but make sure-" Her phone rings. She shoots me an apologetic glance then picks up.
"Hello?"
"Heeeeey baby."
"Hi, Evan." She pulls a face and I have to stop myself from laughing.
"So, has the weirdo gone?"
She hesitates. "He's not a weirdo, and yes he has gone."
"You shouldn't be defending your ex."
"Whatever. What do you want?"
"We're having dinner with your parents tonight."
"What?! How'd you even get their number?"
"Company number. Anyways, I told them you were seeing me now, instead of Nate. They really want to meet me."
Bronwyn cringes. "Alright then. I'll see you tonight at theirs?"
"Yup, 7 o'clock. Need me to pick you up, m'lady?"
"No, I don't, thank you very much."
"Wah, I sense sarcasm, Senõrita."
"Please don't call me that."
"Why? I've been learning Spanish. Y'know, to impress you parents n'stuff, mi amor."
"Oh God, Evan. Please don't-"
"By the way, your sister is joining us."
"Oh, okay. And Luis?"
"Yes."
"How much Spanish do you know, Evan?"
"Well, I only know 'mi amor' and 'senõrita'. But fret not! I'm learning more."
"Okay. I'll see you later." She hangs up and turns to me.
"I'm going for dinner with my parents, Evan, Maeve and Luis." She sighs.
"Oh, well... I hope you have fun?"
She laughs and rests her hand on my chest. "Y'know, Evan doesn't have to know if we secretly date...?"
I raise an eyebrow at her. "Really?"
She nods. I lower my head until our foreheads are touching.
"Well then, mi amor."
Bronwyn rolls her eyes. "Really? Alright."
"You seemed pretty mad when Evan called you that."
"Well first, I'm not his love. Second," She brings her lips to my ear, "It's only hot when you say it."
I grin and kiss her. Electricity surges through me. I feel like I'm flying. When I'm with her, I feel like a different person. She moves her lips to my jawline I groan. "Jesus, Bronwyn. What you do to me."
She smirks against my skin. "I suppose you've never thought about what your stupid hand rake movement does to me." I laugh and pull away.
"Honestly. I don't know what I'd do without you."
