──── chapter fourteen; aftermath

𝐎𝐌𝐈 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐄𝐃 𝐀𝐓 the ground, her fingers picking at the gold necklace she wore around her neck. the party was still loud in the background, but  out here, in this quiet little pocket of space, everything felt distant. kind of like she was in a bubble, separate from the rest of the world.

walker sat beside her, but he didnt say anything. they just sat together, calm. it was nice.

noami took a shaky breath, finally lifting her gaze. "soooooo you saw all that, huh?"

walker gave a small nod. "yeah."

naomi sighed, leaning back against the wall behind her. "uh how bad was it?"

walker hesitated before answering, like he was carefully choosing his words. "it wasn't great."

that made her laugh, even if it was short and humorless. "fuck."

for a moment, neither of them spoke. both of them just sitting in the silence of outside.

then walker shifted slightly, angling his body toward her. "omi, you okay?"

naomi didn't answer right away. because, honestly? she didn't know.

"i don't know how to feel," she admitted. "i was so angry at him, but now... i don't know. i just feel like shit."

walker nodded like he understood. "that happens sometimes. the anger burns away, and then you're just left with the mess."

she let his words settle in her mind. it was strangeβ€”she and walker weren't exactly the closest, but there was something about him that made it easy to talk.

"have you ever been in a fight like that before?" she asked, glancing at him.

walker let out a breathy laugh, rubbing the back of his neck. "not with a girlfriend, no. but I've had my few arguments."

naomi hummed in response. she pulled her knees up to her chest, resting her chin on them. "i don't think i love him anymore."

she hadn't meant to say it out loud, but once the words were out, they couldn't be taken back.

walker didn't react right away. he just watched her carefully, like he was waiting to see if she wanted to take it back.

but she didn't.

"i think i've been holding on because it's familiar," she continued, her voice quieter now. "because it's easier than letting go. but when we fight... i don't even feel hurt anymore. i just feel tired."

walker's expression softened. "you don't have to stay in something that makes you feel like that. you shouldn't."

naomi looked at him, and for some reason, the weight in her chest felt a little lighter.

a sudden burst of laughter from inside the house broke the moment, and naomi exhaled, rubbing her temples. "i should probably go back inside before Ivy comes looking for me."

Walker smiled. "probably."

and seeing his smile, that made naomi smile, too.

she stood up, brushing off her jeans. "thanks, walks. for, you know... sitting with me."

he stood as well, shoving his hands in his pockets. "anytime."
