Sudden movement and loud shuffling brought Sidney back to consciousness, the panic that was erupting around her jump started her into gear quicker than anyone could blink. She was on her feet in the matter of seconds, spear gripped tightly in her right hand as she helped Peeta up with her other, Finnick also standing up a second after.

They could see Katniss standing just outside in the sewer, the holo held out in front of her, but what caught Sidney's attention quickly was something more unsettling. Loud screeches echoed throughout the small passageways, bouncing off the concrete walls.

"Katniss, what is that?!" Sidney shouted out, heart hammering in her throat as her eyes darted nervously around their group.

"We gotta go. We gotta get outta here now!" Peeta stated, clearly on edge as he gazed at Katniss in worry and pushed himself up to his feet.

"Keep your voice down." Gale snapped as he advanced forward to look outside the round hole and into the dark sewer, crossbow already raised.

"They released mutts!" Peeta continued nonetheless, voice raising even higher.

"Pollux, what's the fastest way out?" Katniss called out from where she stood, the man quickly jumped to his feet to join Katniss and lead them away.

"Come on, go, go, go!" Jackson barked out the order to the squad, rushing them all out of the room and into the open hallway.

Once they all were back into formation they slowly started to move forward, only the sound of dripping water filling the corridor before Gale raised his crossbow and shot a flaming arrow, giving them some sort of brighter light source than the small flashlights they all had.

Sidney swallowed, watching the end of the tunnel become illuminated by fire and her heart started to race inside her chest, a feeling of complete dread filling her as she looked up at Finnick before they started to advance once again, her grip on her spear only becoming more forceful with every corner they rounded.

They finally reached the end of the tunnel, and Sidney prayed they were almost outside this godforsaken sewer. A small opening in the wall was hopefully the last obstacle between them and the outside world.

Pollux was the first to crawl through the tight space to make sure the area was secure for them to continue. Sidney watched nervously as the man waved his flashlight around, inspecting the room before looking back at them and signaling for them to wait as he turned the corner.

Her breathing started to grow heavier as the seconds ticked by, she exchanged a nervous glance with Jackson, who stood behind her, flashing her light down the tunnel anxiously. Finally, Pollux returned, and a small sigh of relief fell from Sidney's lips when he signaled for everyone to join him on the other side.

Sidney watched nervously as Gale placed down his crossbow and slowly started to crawl through the small space while pushing his weapon forward. Even though Pollux told them it was safe, a nagging feeling in the back of her head kept telling her anything was going to jump out any second.

Slowly, but surely everyone made it across, leaving only Sidney and Jackson on the other side of the tunnel. Exchanging a quick glance, the lieutenant motioned for her to go first, and with sweaty palms, Sidney carefully crawled through the tight space before sliding out and pushing herself back to her full height.

The woman shined her flashlight behind her once more, before turning on her heel and the moment she bend down, from the darkness, a pale looking creature jumped out, digging it's claws in Jackson back and pulling her backwards.

A loud ear-splitting scream left Sidney's lips as she fell backward when more mutts appeared, the first one started to crawl through the tight space. She hurriedly pushed herself backward as an arrow flew over her head, causing a large explosion to blow up the wall.

Sidney could feel Finnick's fingers dig in her skin as he reached under her arm and pulled her up. Her eyes were blown wide in fear as the screams of their group echoed around, shouting to get moving as quickly as possible.

Everyone sprinted for their lives, water splashing all around them as they almost blindly ran through the tunnels with Castor yelling at his brother to lead them to safety just as they reached an intersection. A groups of mutts came running at full speed from the right, latching onto Castor who screamed in agony as they teared him apart.

Sidney's eyes widened at the sight and she and Finnick raised both their weapons while Cressida started to fire away with her gun just as Katniss fired another arrow, which caused a large explosion, giving them a couple seconds to get away again.

"Katniss, let's go! Move!" Sidney screamed loudly, just barely throwing her spear through the head of one of the mutts off that was about to leap on top of her. "We have to go!" The spear ripped out of the mutt's head and flew back into her hand.

Everything inside Sidney's body ached as they sprinted down the tunnel once more, every part of her body just begging for her to stop, but she only pushed herself harder to follow after Pollux, Peeta and Katniss, silently begging that Finnick was still running behind her.

Pollux turned a sharp left and led them into a larger room, a ladder in the center of it, but it was surrounded by multiple other tunnel openings and within seconds the mutts came tumbling in the room screeching at them.

Sidney felt all air leave her lungs when she was knocked over from behind and she tumbled across the metal walkway. When she finally stopped rolling, the agonizing pain of claws digging in her thigh made her let out a horrible scream. Her spear had long since slipped from her hands as the pale and slippery mutt came closer to her, mouth open and trying to devour her whole.

Sidney could barely keep the thing away from her with her right arm outstretched in front of her and pressing the button on her glove. A loud and estranged scream left her lips as the spear flew into her hand and she stabbed it straight through the mutts mouth and out the back of it's head.

By some miracle, Sidney managed to quickly jump to her feet, another mutt immediately latched onto her stomach and back, bringing her to the ground. Her head smacked harshly against the metal of the floor. Blood ran down the side of her face in a steady stream, blinding her sight when it got into her left eye. She squirmed as she tried to crawl forward but the thing kept pulling at her torso before she turned around as quick as she could and brought the spear down into the mutt's head.

It slumped, claws finally releasing the grip on her torso, which was profoundly bleeding at this point, but she bit through the pain as she looked around at the chaos around her, wiping the stream of blood off of her face with her sleeve before she saw Katniss pull herself from the water to rush towards Peeta's aid who was pinned down and left defenseless by another mutt.

But just as Katniss managed to slam against the thing, another took it's place and made the Girl on Fire back up against a wall. A loud battle cry like scream fell from her lips as she sprinted across the walkway and toward her friend, immediately killing the mutt on top of Peeta as Finnick handled the one on Katniss.

Back to back, the District Four survivors turned toward the other creatures that started to surround them when loud gunfire echoed throughout the room. Cressida and her crew came barging through one of the openings in the room.

"Go, go, go!" Sidney shouted, pushing them towards the ladder in the middle of the room and everyone quickly listened to her orders and started to scale up the ladder.

Finnick breathed heavily, arms tired from continuously swinging the trident around. He looked around to see only himself, Katniss, and Sidney still down here with the mutts.

Finnick quickly pushed Katniss forward toward the ladder, Sidney right behind him. Finnick's heart hammered in his chest and adrenaline pumped through his veins as he watched Katniss scale up the ladder.

"You go first!" Finnick yelled to Sidney over the sound of the mutts' snarling, killing a few with his trident.

"Yeah, not happening." Sidney grunted, she was covered in scratches and cuts that oozed blood, way too much blood. Her eyes widened in complete fear as she looked behind her best friend. "Finnick!"

Finnick could only look over his shoulder for a split second, seeing the mutt leaping through the air, arms outstretched and ready the take him down when Sidney's spear flew through the air, piercing through the pale skin of the creature as it dropped back into the water.

"Finnick, just go! Now!" Sidney shouted. She sounded terrified, stressed, and angry all at the same time. "You're wasting time, go!" Finnick stared for a moment, she nodded and after more thinking, he huffed and he scaled upward, just out of the reach when another mutt leapt toward him, Sidney's spear driving through the skull of the mutt.

Finnick had just reached the top when he looked down into the Transfer. Sidney was halfway to safety. Suddenly, he saw a mutt behind her, it's mouth open, ready to bite down on her neck, ready to decapitate.

"SID!"

Finnick felt something shadowing over him and the next thing he knew, one hand was holding onto the edge of the Transfer, and the other was holding a dangling Sidney's wrist while she repeatedly kicked and shot at any mutts grabbing onto her or getting close. Too much blood dripped down from her body and mouth for her to just walk it off.

Finnick remembered the day he decided he was going to propose to Annie. The first thing he did was go to Sidney's room. He breathed out quickly. "Sidney, can you talk?"

Sidney nodded. "I always have time to talk."

Finnick gave himself dramatic pause. "I'm gonna propose to Annie." He grinned, Sidney smiled widely and clapped her hands like an excited kid.

"Really?!" She asked, Finnick nodded. "Oh, I knew it! It needed to happen eventually!" She tightly hugged him. "I'm so happy for you, Finnick! I really am! You're going to be a great husband, I can already see you with Annie at the alter."

Finnick felt the tears stream down his face as he clutched Sidney's hand like it was the last thing on the planet. She didn't hold onto his though, giving him a consoling look. "Please. Let me go." She didn't even react when a mutt grabbed at her leg and tore down her flesh.

Finnick cried freely now, shaking his head. "I can't. I can't lose you too."

Sidney spoke softly. "It's going to be okay. You're gonna go home. That's what I want. It'll be alright. I promise you." Finnick shook his head. Sidney was always the one that got him through everything. "I'm not gonna make it."

Sidney was the one who held his hand while Annie was in the Games.

Sidney was the one who surprised him by sticking up for him at a Capitol party.

Sidney was the one who convinced Haymitch that Finnick was worth saving from the arena.

Sidney was the one who saved his life in the Quarter Quell.

Sidney was the one who never hurt him.

Sidney saw past the victor, knowing all too well that he was in deep, agonizing pain.

And now to get back home and finish the revolution, he had to pay the price of his best friend.

Finnick shook his head, squeezing Sidney's hand so hard he thought he might break it.

Sidney shook her head softly, giving a kind smile. "It's okay. It'll be alright." She kicked off the ladder strong enough to leave Finnick's grip and fall, leaving Finnick in a horrified expression watching as she fell down.

A loud metal thud partnered with a sickening snap filled Finnick's ears when Sidney's back hit the ridge on the metal walkway. Sidney laid there, eyes open and not a single breath entering or leaving her body as the mutts focused all their attention on her, eating away at what was now her corpse.

Katniss watched as Sidney met her fate, barely able to bite back tears. Finnick was held back by the others, continuing to cry out for his best friend. Katniss helped push Finnick back, she was doing two things at the same time, keeping Finnick alive and taking the holo.

"Nightlock."

"Nightlock."

"Nightlock."

Katniss dropped the holo and the tunnel exploded, engulfing the mutts and Sidney's body in flames.

[A/N: There were like, three other drafts for this chapter in particular, and in all of them, Sidney fucking died. This one was my personal favorite ending for her though, be happy you guys didn't get the second one. Oh my lord, that was HORRIBLE.]
