"Finnick!" Katniss ran into his room. The boy was surprised, dropping his rope of knots when he saw Katniss run into the room.
"What is it?" Finnick asked, unsure of why Katniss was so panicked.
"Put on some clothes and follow me," Katniss told Finnick, nodding at his medical gown.
Finnick nodded, taking off his gown once Katniss left the room and threw on a grey District Thirteen uniform.
He rushed out the door to see Katniss waiting for him. Within a second of him being out of the door, Katniss began to run down the hallway with Finnick on her tail.
They entered the main production room of District Thirteen which only confused Finnick even more.
Finnick looked around the room to see many people bustling about. Beetee was in the middle of it all, working at a computer.
"Katniss, what is going-" Finnick spoke, but he was cut off by the large screen that flickered in at the head of the room.
Finnick stopped talking as his eyes widened as he saw Sidney on the screen. Sidney was standing next to Peeta. In between Peeta and Johanna was President Snow sitting on a white throne, everyone wore completely white, formal clothing.
None of the three tributes looked harmed, but you could see it in their eyes. Peeta looked worried. Johanna looked angry. Sidney looked distressed.
"Coming live from the Capitol, I am President Snow and I have a message." President Snow began this speak. Everyone in the room went quiet as they turned and watched the screen. "Joined with me, are the victors I have righteously saved from the arena in the 75th Hunger Games."
Finnick scoffed, disgusted by what Snow was saying. Did the Districts and the Capitol really believe this?
"Katniss Everdeen must be stopped. She has threatened our way of life and will not stop until she sees the Capitol destroyed," Snow spoke. "And her fellow victors are no better. That includes Beetee Latier, Haymitch Abernathy, Finnick Odair, and Annie Cresta. If you see any of these fugitives report then to the Peacekeepers immediately. Panem today, Panem tomorrow, Panem forever."
The video flickered off, Sidney disappearing from Finnick's visions. Finnick turned and looked at Katniss.
"What is he doing to them?" Finnick asked.
"That's not the only video, Finnick," Beetee told Finnick. He turned his eyes back to the screen, watching as Sidney's face returned to the screen. This time it was just her and Caesar Flickerman.
Finnick walked around the computer area that Beetee was sitting in, walking up to the screen. The camera zoomed in on Sidney's face. He could see the pain in her eyes. He also saw the first mistake the Capitol made. Not only did they cover their own inflicted wounds but they also covered the scratch across her cheek from the Games.
"What have they done to you?" Finnick whispered to himself, placing his hand on the screen.
Caesar introduced himself and began asking questions, beginning with asking her how she has been.
"The best I can be." Sidney told Caesar. Finnick saw that there was more to that answer in her eyes. The Capitol was changing her.
"How have you been holding up since the news of Mags Flanagan's death?" Caesar asked her.
Finnick watched as Sidney's face fell. Of course she didn't know about Mags's death. How could she? Nobody would've told her.
"W-What?" Sidney's voice cracked. "I'm sorry, I don't think I heard you right."
"How have you been since Mags Flanagan's death?" Caesar repeated himself.
"I-I- no one told me about this." Sidney told Caesar. A tear dropped down her cheek but she brushed it away as quickly as it fell.
Finnick wanted to turn away. He wanted to storm out of the room and not watch another second of this horrid video, but he couldn't bring himself to leave. He had to see Sidney, even if it was like this.
"Do you have anything to say to the districts or the rebels?" Caesar asked her.
The emotions on Sidney's face changed. She looked confused as she debated what to say. Finnick knew she was deciding if she wanted to speak the truth, or safe herself from another beating.
"Sidney?" Caesar asked. Sidney looked back at Caesar.
"Sorry, I was just thinking." Sidney told him, her face changing back to a neutral look.
Finnick could see Sidney's eyes flicker to behind the camera, making him wonder what or who was behind it. Her eyes then snapped over to her right and she shook her head in a small nod. Who was she nodding at?
Sidney lifted her hand and rubbed her face with a wipe, taking the makeup off of her face. When she removed her hand from her face, she looked completely different. Bruises were all over her face, including many on her neck and her jaw.
The people of District Thirteen in the room gasped. They all knew the tributes were being beaten, but they hadn't seen it. And the worst part was that they all knew her face was the most unharmed of the three victors. Sidney's eyes darted around the room, her fear seeping through the screen. The Peacekeepers were coming for her.
"I am Sidney Gage, District Four victor," Sidney spoke in a rush. Finnick could hear the brokenness in her voice and took quick notice to the tears rolling down her face and her quickening breathing. "I am being held in the Capitol with Peeta Mellark and Johanna Mason." Sidney looked around quickly, once again.
Finnick couldn't even blink. He couldn't tear his eyes away from the screen. Gloved hands grabbed her arms and began pulling her from the chair she was sitting in. This was definitely not planned.
"We are being tortured daily!" Sidney screamed into the camera, thrashing against the Peacekeepers. "Trust the rebels! Stand with the Mockingjay!" Sidney looked into the camera. "Burn President Snow-!" She yelled before the butt of a Peacekeeper's gun came into contact with her head, the live video stopping.
Finnick turned to look at Katniss, horror shining in his eyes. He gripped the necklace and ring in his hand, squeezing it hard enough to make an imprint. Tears stained his cheeks and flowed freely down his face.
"They're going to beat her!" Finnick panicked. "They're going to punish her because she warned the districts!"
"Your friend is very brave, Mr. Odair." A voice said from the door of the production room. Everyone turned their heads to see an older woman standing in the doorway with silver hair.
"Who the hell are you?" Finnick spat, watching the woman walk towards him.
"Alma Coin," she smiled, unaffected by Finnick's hostility. "President of District Thirteen."
"What are you doing here?" Katniss asked her, walking up and standing next to Finnick.
"I wanted to see the message," Coin told them. She seemed so calm. "And I wanted to see the girl who had sparked more rebellion."
"What are you taking about?" Katniss asked.
Coin brushed past Katniss and Finnick, walking closer to the screen. She stared at the paused picture of Sidney. The video was paused right before Sidney was knocked out.
"This video was live three days ago." Coin told the two. Finnick looked at Katniss, who looked just as surprised as he did.
"And you just now let us see it?" Finnick asked with fury.
Coin turned back around and faced them with a soft smile. She nodded. "You weren't emotionally stable." Coin argued.
"I'm no more emotionally stable today than I was three days ago!" Finnick yelled, advancing towards Coin. She seemed unaffected by Finnick's threats.
"Regardless," Coin walked away from Finnick. "She has sparked even more rebellion."
"How much rebellion?" Katniss asked. Coin nodded toward Beetee. A second later, images and videos of riots and fires were on the screen.
A video played showing bon fires in the streets. The rioters burned a flag with the Capital insignia on it. They fought Peacekeepers. They screamed Sidney's name. They screamed the words 'BURN PRESIDENT SNOW.'
"District Four has officially joined because of her," Coin spoke, more videos flickering across the screen. "District Seven has been having many riots as well. Along with District Five."
"Oh my god," Finnick mumbled, unable to believe his eyes.
He had finally realized why Sidney risked beatings to send that message. She wanted the Districts to fight. She wanted to tell the Rebellion that she and the other victors wouldn't stop fighting either.
"You need to get her out." Finnick turned abruptly and faced Coin, his eyes burning.
"I cannot do that, Odair." Coin told him. Finnick clenched his jaw.
"She just began your biggest weapon!" Finnick waved his hand towards the screen. "A rebel inside the Capitol!"
"Yes, but that was her decision." Coin told him.
"You think taking a beating was her decision?" Finnick yelled at her.
"No, but sending that message was," Coin argued.
"And an entire District just joined you because of it!" Finnick glared at Coin. She simply smiled at him.
"I'm sorry Mr. Odair, but I can do nothing for her," Coin shock her head. Finnick stared her down for a second, a growl rising from his throat. He glanced at Katniss before turning away from Coin and storming out of the room.
