"i baked cookies for my favorite hyogo perfecture representatives. congratulations!"
yn gently pushed suna and atsumu apart and squished herself in the middle of them two on the bench beside the volleyball club table.
"when do you find time for baking in between school, studying, band practices, and hanging out with suna?"
"i have plenty of time left, in my spare time, i could probably invent a time machine to have even more time for myself, atsumu."
she said this while tapping atsumu's nose with her finger and smiling broadly. it caused him to raise an eyebrow and look closer at yn, looking for an explanation for her cheerful mood.
"why are you so happy?"
he finally asked, looking for a moment at suna, who looked so in love with yn's big grin that atsumu had to turn his gaze away from him to keep from puking. eugh, the love between these two...
"i might or might not have sang something on band practice this morning."
she smiled proudly and felt a warm hand lightly patting her back. suna preferred little touches and looks to show her his support or attention like that, rather than talking about it out loud in front of so many people. and it was fine with her, she understood it, but pretending that something in her heart wasn't flipping was a little difficult.
"that's so cool, yn! oh, i'm so excited for the festival..."
"have you already decided what songs you're going to play?"
"no... but we're on the right track, we'll make a decision soon, kita."
"are you going to play something you wrote?"
"how do you know that i write?"
she furrowed her brows, looking at osamu, who sent her a look that made it clear he was doubting her ability to think logically.
"suna told us."
"it just slipped out."
"it's fine, it's not a secret, i just always felt a little embarrassed talking about my songs for the first time with anyone, they can feel a little cringy."
yn laughed softly. things she wrote were always based on how she felt, and while she enjoyed talking and didn't mind talking about her feelings now, songs needed to be a little more poetic to sound good, and that part felt cringy to show anyone for the first time. she didn't feel that way around band members, but they were there for her when she first started writing songs and it was semi who helped her find her own style.
"ln-san, can we talk for a moment?"
she wanted to say a few more words about her songs and explain why performing them at a school festival wouldn't be a good idea because they were mostly slow, but one of the third years stood behind her and called her name.
suna looked him up and down and slowly took away his hand after giving yn last squize on her side.
"sure."
she stood up to walk somewhere with the boy, who appeared to be really happy about that.
"another admirer?"
aran chuckled as he watched the two walk away from their table a little further away. after that small change in image for yn, so many people became interested in her again, and not just for friendship. but it wasn't easy to ask her out because she mostly hung out with boys who looked too intimidating to even approach her. that's why interest in her was mostly rumor, and the number of people who actually had the courage to ask her out could be counted on one hand... at least, that was the official version. she was hit on a lot more, but she didn't want to admit that random boys talking about spending time together were flirting with her.
"how are you so calm?"
asked osamu, lightly kicking suna under the table to get his attention. if he was on his place, he would look at the two every two seconds, but suna was staring at his lunch as if it was about to stand up and run away.
"oh, 'samu, please, he's not calm."
"excuse me? i am calm."
"they may not notice, but i always sit beside you two and i see how you hold your arm around her whenever someone comes up to us, loverboy."
"thank god i don't have to watch it."
osamu sighed and wiped sweat from his forehead dramatically.
"would your heart break? do you still have feelings for yn?"
"hey! drop it, aran, it's been a year. suna, you know i'd never hit on your girl, right?"
"i'm really trying hard not to kill myself in front of you all, you know?"
"suna, when did you start being so dramatic?"
"ah, you're starting to sound like yn..."
suna slowly put away his lunchbox, making everyone wonder what he was doing, but then he put his head on the table and sighed loudly in response to the twins' teasing. he simply did not want to put his forehead in his food.
"he was always like this, but someone helped him to act more open about what he's feeling right away."
kita gave his younger friend a warm smile. he felt glad that suna had found someone like yn, he had been glowing recently, and anyone who knew him could tell. suna always said what he was thinking, so it wasn't a big deal, but his blant remarks about something recently changed to talking about what he thought about it. sure, he wasn't the most open person ever, but it was so much easier to understand what he was feeling now. it was a good change for him.
"are you all right?"
asked yn as she sat back down in her seat. she patted suna's back while looking around at their friends.
he sat up straight and nodded, clearing his throat awkwardly.
"who was that?"
atsumu was too curious not to ask. he also knew that suna would love to know, he's gonna get his favour back someday.
"he... ahh, i forgot his name... he just asked me if i could tutor him in biology before his test on monday."
"what did you say?"
yn looked at suna, disappointed that he had even asked this question.
"of course i said no, he asked me to come to his house on saturday evening, and i'm already busy because you have a game."
she explained with a smile, but the way suna looked at her made her feel as if she had said something wrong.
"what?"
"yn, a third-year student, has asked you to come into his house on the weekend night and tutor him in biology."
she gave him a brief glance before turning her head in the direction of the boy they were talking about, her lips parted and her face squinted in disgust. she wished the dots in her head would stay disconnected.
"eugh. like i would give him a chance after hiding his intentions like this."
"good thing you've already said no."
"i just assumed he was in 3-1 class since he wanted help from a second-year student..."
"he's in my class, 3-4."
kita sent a disappointed look to his classmate, which he couldn't see but hoped he could feel. if he wanted to make moves on yn, he should be confident enough to ask her about a date or something like that, rather than hiding behind the 'tutoring'. but he wasn't surprised that he did something like that, they hadn't been on good terms since first year.
"no one in this school is appreciates that im really smart and i could really help..."
"to be honest, i always forgot you are in class 2-5."
yn knitted her brows and snapped in the direction of atsumu.
"maybe because your feet don't go to places where smart people go, and you never saw me in my 2-5 class!"
"damn... you can be rude..."
atsumu gasped loudly, putting his hand on his heart as if the words could really hurt him.
"i know, i'm sorry, i'm feeling bad right now."
"don't feel bad for him, he deserved it."
suna had to admit that he had lied to himself his entire life, believing that he was not a touchy person at all. he was. he patted yn's back in support of her 'mean' words for atsumu, and his hand stayed there for the rest of their lunch break.
