"you were really cool out there, suna."
after the game, yn let her brothers go to the miya twins and talk with them because they were so impressed with how well they played together. haruki, hikaru, and hiroto were on their school basketball team, and they were great together, but atsumu and osamu were great in the way they played together on a whole different level, and it didn't matter that they were on a whole different sport. yn wanted to give them all the time they needed, so she approached suna, who appeared to be waiting for the miya twins as well.
"hm? you looked at me?"
"i tried to look at everyone. i just wanted to say something nice to you..."
"i'm just teasing you, ln."
suna softly smiled and patted yn on the shoulder. she was very nice, and after walking home with her a few times, he grew fond of her. because of how talkative yn was, their friendship didn't go through an awkward phase, but they were definitely more comfortable with each other than they were at the start. they weren't best friends yet, but they were close.
maybe it would have been easier for them to get to know each other if it hadn't been for daishou, who kept reminding himself of his girlfriend every time they talked in school. when she talked with anyone else, it seemed like he didn't feel anything other than jealousy for her. he was interrupting her conversations with others, giving her the impression that he had finally forgiven her, but he always took her away from her friends and ignored her after that, and she was always too embarrassed to leave him.
"your brothers seem to like miyas a lot."
"maybe it's connection between them because they all have someone who looks like them."
"maybe you're right."
"having a twin must be fun."
"you think?"
"yeah, it has to be something more than just having siblings."
"your siblings seem to be very close to you, even though they are the triplets."
"it look like that, because, they look up to me just because i'm older than them."
yn shrugged her shoulders, smiling at her brothers, who had a really passionate conversation with the miya twins, they matched each other's energy perfectly, and even hiroto talked a lot with them.
"i think they have more reasons to idolize you than just because you're older."
"oh."
yn locked her gaze on suna and smiled softly at him. 'another reason to idolize her'? she didn't know what he was talking about, but it told her that he was thinking about her more than she expected, which was a nice feeling. she didn't drag the topic any further, because it was too embarrassing to think about, let alone hear, any praise from suna.
"do you have any sibligns?"
she asked after a minute of silence. the triplets and twins were having a great time talking, and it appeared that she would have to stand with suna for a few more minutes so they could talk about each other a little more.
"i don't have siblings, but i live with my little cousin and treat her like a sister."
"tell me about her."
suna gave yn a brief glance. if it had been anyone else, it would have sounded like a desperate attempt to keep the convestation going, but yn always seemed so genuinely interested in everything, that he didn't even question why she would want to listen about his little sister, when there were so many more interesting subjects to bring up. it's not that he didn't think his sister was interesting; it's just that no one ever asked him to talk about it, in fact, no one asked him about anything personal. people at school were always asking him about volleyball and his team, as if they were the only two things he could talk about.
it felt good to know that someone was interested in getting to know him better.
"she's ten, she loves dancing, and to be honest, i don't know much about her... she's at the age where she hates every boy, including me."
"well, are you a good brother?"
"of course i am."
she didn't even think about it for a second. suna had a pretty weird image at school. everyone thought he was cold and mean to people because of his intimidating looks and not-so-open personality toward strangers, but he was a really kind and warm person, maybe not for everyone because it took some subborness and curiosity to get to know him, but it was well worth it.
at least yn thought that her stubbornness and curiosity would be enough, because she didn't realize that it was her charm that brought them so quickly together. suna didn't love meeting new people, and he was satisfied with the friends he already had, he didn't feel the need to expand his friend group, but because of yn's personality and her toxic relationship, he wanted to protect her before even getting to know her better. he had to admit after a while that she was a good friend and that he would like to befriend her even if it wasn't just to help her with daishou.
"are you sure? my brothers want to kick my boyfriend's ass just because he made me sad. Would you do something like that for your sister?"
"i would kill for her."
"she'll appreciate it soon."
"ln."
"hm?"
"i think your brothers are doing it right now."
"huh?"
she snapped her head in the direction where her brothers had been talking with atsumu and osamu, and she saw only four people there. she looked around for haruki and saw him walking straight to daishou with his fists clenched.
"oh my god. haruki!"
yn yelled at her brother and ran up to him to stop him from doing whatever he was planning. she taunted her siblings with an angry gaze, and even the miya twins felt threatened by her gaze. they had no idea someone like her could get really angry.
"don't even try to move."
she left him with his brothers and confronted daishou, who had already noticed her because of the whole situation. he didn't seem delighted to see her.
"what are you doing here?"
"huh? i should ask because you've always said you don't want to watch our team's games."
"you always find a reason to pick up on me, yn. give me a break."
"i'm not picking on you, i just don't get why you lied to me."
"you lied to me as well, you never said you were going to the game."
"daishou, you're barely speaking to me these days, and i know you don't like talking about volleyball, so i didn't want to irritate you even more."
"so you chose to lie to me?"
"i never lied about anything!"
she quickly slapped her hand over her lips, embarrassed by how loudly she yelled.
"i'm so sorry."
"i'm back, daishou, we can go to your place now!"
mika approached them with a big smile that quickly faded when she saw yn.
that was the last thing yn expected. that was a total lie. she was aware of how close mika and daishou were, but he reassured her that they were definitely friends, and she believed him, or tried to, because she liked mika too much to think that she could do something so horrible to other girl. she tried to ignore her boyfriend's and mika's closeness and how she always took her place when she wasn't around daishou. and, despite her best efforts, she was very often replacing her.
"oh, yn..."
yn lowered her head in humiliation. she almost heard gasps escape the lips of her brothers and friends, while watching this scene. she'd gasp as well if she wasn't so busy holding back her tears.
"have fun."
she quickly turned around and took a deep breath to calm herself. it was tough, she had never felt so hurt by any of their arguments as she did by this one. mika's presence at this time was... eye-opening for her. she had been naive to believe that they were just best friends and that there was no reason to be concerned about mika.
"let's go home."
she gathered her brothers, who were blended in with the team.
"yn..."
she simply nodded, stopping her friends from discussing what had happened. she needed to think about it on her own, without anyone telling her how she may feel.
"see you at school, boys, that was a really good game."
yn smiled softly and left the gym, taking the hand hiroto offered to comfort her.
