Will bounced his leg nervously under the table, trying to appear casual as he scrolled through his phone. He hadn't seen Iz since their school days, and now here she was, sitting across from him in a cozy London café, looking as stunning as ever.
He'd had a massive crush on her back in secondary school. Iz was everything he wasn't - confident, and effortlessly cool. He was just a geeky kid with a passion for video games
"Earth to Will!" Iz's voice broke through his thoughts, a playful smile dancing on her lips.
"You've been staring at your phone for five minutes. Everything okay?"
Will's cheeks flushed, and he quickly locked his phone. "Yeah, sorry," he mumbled, "Just uh, you know, the usual social media stuff."
Iz chuckled, "Right, because that's not your entire life or anything."
Will laughed, relieved that she hadn't called him out on his obvious staring. "Hey, it pays the bills," he said defensively.
"I'm not judging," Iz said, raising her hands in mock surrender. "I'm just saying, maybe put the phone away for a bit and enjoy the company."
"Right, right," Will said, feeling his ears burn. "So, how's the photography going? I saw your work on that last magazine cover, it was amazing."
Iz's eyes lit up, "Thanks! It was a dream project. I got to travel to Iceland for a week, the landscapes were unreal."
Will listened eagerly as she recounted her adventures, his eyes never leaving her face. He was captivated by her passion and enthusiasm, just like he used to be back in school.
"Wow, that sounds incredible," he said when she finished, "You're really living the dream, Iz."
"Yeah, I can't complain," she said, "But hey, you're doing pretty well yourself. I've seen your YouTube channel, is getting pretty big right?"
"Uh, something like that," Will said, trying to play it cool. "It's just a bit of fun, you know?"
"Don't sell yourself short," Iz said, "You're
hilarious, and your videos are actually really well-made. I always watch your videos"
Will grinned, "Thanks, Iz. That actually means a lot, coming from you."
They fell into comfortable silence for a moment, sipping their coffees and people-watching. Will couldn't help but steal glances at Iz, admiring her profile. She had grown into an even more beautiful woman than he remembered.
"So," Iz said, breaking the silence, "What's next for you? Any big plans?"
"Well," Will said, "I'm thinking of doing a live stream for my subscribers next week, maybe ."
"That sounds fun," Iz said, "You should do another collab with James that would be cool."
"Maybe," Will said, "I've been thinking"
"that would be amazing" Iz said, "You're a natural on camera. Just be yourself, and you'll be fine."
Will smiled, "Thanks, Iz. You always know what to say."
They chatted for a while longer, catching up on old times and sharing their dreams for the future. Will was surprised at how easily the conversation flowed between them. It was as if no time had passed at all.
