I walked home in the rain, my hair soaked. I had used my umbrella to protect my camera, a recent purchase I had saved up for. As I lifted my head, I realized I was home, standing in front of my tiny apartment block in London. It may be small, but I love it. It's cozy and perfect for me.
I walked into the building and took the lift to the third floor, where my flat was located. When I arrived at my door, I saw an "eviction notice" in big red letters.
I opened the letter and read the reason:
"Dear Miss Whybrow,
I would like to thank you for your time in this flat. You have never missed a payment and have kept it in perfect condition, following all the rules. Sadly, with regret, I must inform you that I have gone bankrupt and will be selling the building. You have 39 days to move out. Thank you, Tom (your landlord)."
I started to panic and cry, unsure of what to do. I lay on the floor near the doorway, shocked and filled with sadness. This place was where I had built my life, my first day as a photographer, my first big shoot. This was the first place I could call my own.
"Get yourself together, Iz," I said, as a tear rolled down my cheek. I thought of all the memories I had made in this place. Then, I remembered Will. "Iz, oh my god, Iz! Will calls me Iz, and I haven't spoken to him in a while."
I gathered myself together, walked into the living room, and placed my camera in its usual spot. I went into my bedroom, changed into my pajamas, and tied my hair up. I returned to the living room and sat on the sofa.
"Right," I said to myself, "I'll call Will."
