had expected him to be unemotional regarding her. (Y/n) was decidedly put out by the unsettling feeling brewing in the pit of her stomach.

It reminded her of the sensation of waiting for a jump scare in a horror movie-- anxiety ridden and entirely unpleasant.

The attention was unwanted after all. L's interest in her could prove to be a jeopardizing factor in her own schemes. It meant that he would be paying extra attention to her and what she was doing, successfully putting her on edge.

His interest was the last thing she needed right now, and yet there he was. Large, unblinking charcoal gray eyes regarded her much like one would a particularly trying puzzle that they'd been trying to solve for an unreasonable amount of time.

And to be perfectly honest, that wasn't far from how the renown detective viewed the FBI agent.

To L, she was an unknown piece in the giant game of chess he was playing with Kira. Or rather, she was the wildcard third person that had enough influence to disrupt his carefully laid out plays, and that demanded that he solve the enigma known as (Y/n) Yagami. She was dangerous, and knowing this, she wasn't above using her influence which made her a worrying variable.

If he was going to solve this case, he had a feeling that he would need (Y/n) to be playing for his side, which was easier said than done since it would further require uprooting her seemingly unwavering loyalty to her brother.

From their conversation on the Yagami siblings' first day with the Task Force, it wasn't difficult to determine that she was fiercely allied with her brother-- their dynamics only proved it further. Even though the siblings didn't speak much while they were at headquarters, there was this sort of...bubble around the two that made it seem like it was them against the world.

Or was that merely being projected from Light's clear admiration of his sister?

Whatever it may be, one thing he had figured out about the young woman was that regardless of her relationship with her brother, she wouldn't be someone either of them could manipulate. L had already admitted as much to himself, and drawn the conclusion that her resolve would waver out of nothing but her own accord.

To manage to shift her alliance to him, L would have to figure out just what made (Y/n) tick while she was so clearly defensive around him. But, if anything, he was a stubborn man. He'd chip away at that defense until she finally got annoyed enough to drop it.

(Y/n) Yagami. She was one enigma he would make sure to unravel.
