GLISTENING DIAMONDS.
GROANING, DIANA SLOWLY GOT out of the fountain and ran at the alien who was about to smash Tony with his axe.
Colliding with the alien, the two tumbled until his back hit a tree. Standing up, Diana pointed a finger at the alien who was slowly starting to get up, her muscles aching from the hit she took a minute ago. "If your friend throws me in the water again, I'm gonna lose it, big guy."
Not realizing the alien was about to hit her with his weapon, she stumbled back until a hand stops the weapon mid-air, "Woah dude, that's my girlfriend." Spider-Man says.
"What are you doing here?" She let out a breath as she saw the blue and red spandex that was better known as her boyfriend's suit.
"Kid, where'd you come from?" Tony asks as he flies by and spots the couple battling the giant alien
"A field trip to MoMA!" Peter answered before he was grabbed and tossed aside like a ragdoll. He landed near the fountain and quickly rose to his feet again. He shot a web grenade in the alien's direction; it hit the alien, and he stumbled back.
"What is this guy's problem, Mister Stark?" Peter questioned as he continued fighting the alien, determined to stop him.
"He's from space, and he's here to steal a necklace from a wizard," Tony briefly explained, not in the best situation to thoroughly explain what was happening.
Diana nodded along, "Yeah, there's really no way to sugarcoat that."
A swoop of red came flying by that Diana recognized to be Dr. Strange. "Kid, that's the wizard. Take Diana and get on it!" Tony called as he caught sight of the cape, too.
"On it!" Peter answered, and he swung to Diana. She hopped on his back, and he held her close as he swung after Strange. As they turned the corner, a billboard hit them square in the face, and they crashed to the ground. "You okay?" Peter asked, and she nodded, her blonde hair in a mess.
"Yeah, totally. Let's go, he's getting away." She held on tightly, and he swung after Squidward and Strange again.
Strange's cape had separated from Strange himself and was now flying on its own. A blue beam came out of nowhere, and it started to defy all the laws of gravity as it pulled Strange toward the spaceship.
Peter couldn't detach his web, and they were both pulled up as well. He reached out to grab a lamppost, but it was pulled from the ground. They entered the beam, and Diana knew there was no point in trying anymore. She let go of Peter. "Mister Stark, we're being beamed up!" He exclaimed.
"Hang on, kid. I'm coming." Tony Stark answered, and his voice was laced with worry.
In no time, they reached the spaceship, and while Strange was taken inside, Peter and Diana managed to stay on the outside. She tightly held on as the wind tugged at her body. The air became colder and colder, and she realized they were ascending.
"Stark, we could use some help!" Diana called out. She looked to her left and saw Peter gasping for air. "Pete, what's wrong?" She asked, her eyes looking at him with worry as her heartbeat quickened.
"Can't breathe," He said, ripping off his mask and trying to grasp onto oxygen.
"Peter, you're gonna be okay; calm down for me, yeah?" She says softly. He nods and slows his breathing; she figured that she had more oxygen in her lungs than Peter because of a chemical accident that happened with her mother that made her highly enhanced. "We're really high up; you're running out of air," Diana stated, even though she could tell the air was getting thinner by the second.
He nodded faintly, his body slowly losing energy, "Yeah, that makes sense."
"Pete, you gotta let go! I'm gonna catch you." Tony said through the comms as he flew up to meet the teenagers.
"Let go?! Are you insane?! " Diana exclaimed. Peter's body started to give in, and his eyes drooped shut. "No, no, no, no. Peter, schatzi, you have to say awake." Diana rushed out the end of her sentence, but she was too late. Peter lost grip on the spaceship, and he dropped down.
His hand had accidentally caught her shirt and dragged her down with him. Diana yelled as she fell through the wind. Everything was blurry as she was spinning too fast. The spaceship was no longer in her line of sight as she tried to look around.
Next thing she knew, she fell through an orange portal and landed at the feet of Wong and Bruce Banner.
She coughed and groaned in pain; the ache in her body was indescribable at this point as she slowly but surely rose to her feet, a hand placed on her right ribcage.
Bruce helped her up and wiped the dust off her face and clothes, "Diana, are you okay?" Noticing her calmed eyes grow panicked as time passed led him to believe she was, in fact, not okay. "Hey, what happened up there?"
Diana pushed her mess of blonde hair back and looked up at the sky, every nerve in her body feeling ill, "Peter. Where's Peter? Oh mein, Gott! Heโ he was losing oxygenโ I couldn't see him. I need to find him." Diana started pacing as tears brimmed in her eyes, her anxiety kicking in. "He needs air andโ"
As the blonde started hyperventilating, Bruce placed his hands on her shoulders to get her to stop, "Diana! Listen to me, Peter's fine. He's going to be fine. Tony's with him right now, and I need you to keep your head straight for me. Can you do that?"
Diana tried to steady her breathing and nodded, her eyes still slightly blurry. Now, some might've called her overdramatic, but when you've lost as many people as she's had, you tend to keep the ones you have extra close.
Bruce gave her a comforting smile and nodded, "Okay, good. Just breathe. Breathe, Diana. Now, I'm going to call Steve and see where we can meet up." Seeing the girl's eyes light up slightly made Bruce feel a little better inside about the whole situation.
Diana's eyes sparkled with happiness, "And Nat?"
Bruce froze and felt as if a glass shard just stabbed his heart. He tried not to think about the redhead. He left so abruptly and had been gone for almost two years, and hearing the frantic girl mention the Russian threw him off track, "Yeah, and Nat."
Bruce looked down, seeing the dirty flip phone covered in dust. He picked it up, blowing the grime and dirt off it. The sound of a portal opening caught his attention, and he looked up to see Wong step into the portal to the Sanctum. "Where are you going?"
Wong paused, turning back to the scientist. "Time Stone's been taken. Sanctum's left unguarded. What will you do?"
Bruce held the phone up, "Gonna make the call."
"And you?" Wong asked, directing his attention to Diana, who had started to fiddle with her hands in worry.
Diana nodded, motioning towards Bruce, "Gonna stay with him. I can't just sit and do nothing." She shook her head, her voice becoming distant, "Not while Peter's out there."
Wong nodded to the both of them, closing the portal behind him with the ghost of a smile on his lips.
