You made sure to include a reminder on your phone for Marinette's birthday, which was the reason you paced all around Paris to find her a perfect gift. You bought her countless gifts, such as fabric for her fashion designs, sketchbooks and many other items. It didn't seem to click as a perfect gift though as you sighed, leaning back on your chair.
"Ugh... Plagg, if I gave you this for your birthday, would you like it?" Letting out another long sigh, you eyed him in the corner of your eye.
When he hummed his response, you knew he didn't really like it. But in his defense, he was only head over heels for camembert.
Placing both hands on your cheeks, you glanced all around your room; just for any sort of inspiration. It did, as you saw the charm you've hanged onto your wall the moment you returned from the tournament you almost had with the blunette.
Of course, why haven't you thought of that?
"Plagg, let's go, we're going shopping." You said, removing the hanged lucky charm from the wall.
You gripped the lucky charm tight around your fingers, inspecting the material to make one yourself. You've never made someone a handmade gift, sure, but you're willing to bet that you'll do just fine with it.
Standing in front of a shop, you saw many charms in display and as much as they looked very prettyโ you were planning to make one yourself. You just hoped that Marinette would prefer your handmade charm over these very pretty ones.
Embarrassingly enough, you weren't all that good in making this charm. It had many beads with tons of different colors and shapes that it felt like a toddler would have been able to make one much better. If you recalled the whole shop fiasco, the cashier seemed skeptical of your presenceโ and your weird choice of colors for the charm. But you assumed it was because y'know, you're you. If only they warned you how ugly the charm would've turned out, you probably would've tipped them overboard with money.
Plagg jerked his head back at the sight, his grin impossibly big for a small face like his.
"Woah, did it get ran over?" He jested, his sharp green eyes filled with mischief as he continued, "Why does it look like that?"
"You asshole." You whined, throwing a candy wrapper at him. Which to no one's surprise, he had avoided it.
But he was right, how did you manage to make it possibly look this bad?
Eventually you decided to make another one, but your timer on your phone rang, telling you that it was already time to go to the park to help Alya and the others make Marinette's birthday party. To your dismay, you weren't able to make a better looking one so you took the handmade charm and put it on your pocket.
Picking up the gift bag that was set on the table, Plagg suddenly appeared right in front of you. He suspiciously quirked his brow at you, "Why are trying so hard for this girl?"
"Huh?" You blinked at his question, already feeling slightly embarrassed by his suspicious gaze, "She's a friend, y'know? I'd do the same for Nino or Adrien... maybe even Alya."
He nodded despite his gaze never faltering, "Okay. Whatever you say."
Finally regaining control of yourself from the warmth you felt inside your chest, you made way to the park, checking your pocket every once in a while to make sure the charm didn't fall off.
Quickly walking there, you already see Alya calling someone near the food table and the others helping Juleka with the party balloons. Once she ended the call, she began walking towards you, a small smirk on her face.
"Hey, Y/n. Glad you could make it." Alya said, her voice almost implying something you couldn't quite place.
"It's Marinette's birthday, I wouldn't miss it anyway." You began, pausing once you felt a surge of warmth radiating through your body from your words, "I mean... where do I put the gift?"
You heard her snicker before responding, "That table right there."
The only thing you could bring yourself to do, was nod and walk towards the table she had pointed at to place your gift. Sucking up your embarrassment, you helped the others finish the task of finishing the birthday party until Alya brought Marinette at the park, a blindfold around her eyes.
Once the blindfold was removed, she let out a gasp of excitement as she scanned around the park, her eyes lingering on you the longest. You turned your body slightly away from her to hide the bashful smile that had been lifted from your lips, hoping no one noticed that you did so.
Almost immediately after, everyone became swarming to her to hand her their birthday gifts.
You were the last one to hand her yours, making it somewhat special, "Happy birthday, Marinette."
You saw the way her jaw immediately dropped, a few gasps releasing when she took a look inside the gift bag. Alya seemed to have taken notice as she whispered something to her ear.
"La Befana comes at night on her shaky broom in flight! She gives out candy to those who are dandy!" Someone sang, capturing everyone's attention.
The villainess jumped out of her vehicle, walking towards the blunette with confidence. It made you immediately take notice of the situation as you ran towards a secluded spot to transform.
"Grandma?" You heard Marinette call out before you left, leaving you slightly worried.
Once you've scanned the area to see if you could transform, Plagg flew over to you with an annoyed look, "Already? Wasn't it just your friend's birthday party?"
"What?" You began, his mutters almost messing with your head, "Ugh, stop that. Plagg claws out!"
โ
Running back to where you've last seen Marinette, you see the villainess pointing her gun at her, trapping Marinette between the villainess and a fairy version of her own mother.
Though before she could fire at her, you extended your staff at the gun she was holdingโ snapping her attention away from the blunette to you.
"I'd watch who you're aiming that at." You seethed, throwing your staff in the air to catch it constantly.
"Tsk. I bet you'll look wonderful in white, my pretty kitty." She fired her gun at you, almost hitting you if you hadn't tilted your head.
"Don't you prefer the color black?" You began, tilting your head slightly toward the side almost teasingly, "You're wearing it now! Plus, it really brings out our eyes."
At your comment, she blasted more shots at you; which you've fortunately managed to dodge every single one of them. You stopped on the rooftop, jumping once you saw Mrs. Dupain-Cheng flying directly at you to avoid her.
"I'm tryna save your daughter right now!" You yelled, only for your words to be futile once she tackled you to the ground. You extended your staff on her abdomen to push her away from you and jumped away shortly to help you regain your strength.
"Chatรณn Noire!" You heard Marinette call out, making you perk your head at her.
The fairy version of Mrs. Dupain-Cheng took advantage of your distraction, tackling you once again when you had finally faced her again. You groaned, now no longer having strength to push her back into the ground. She continued to hold you down as you tried reaching for your staff that had been scattered in the ground meanwhile kicking her down. Finally having your staff, this time you had extended it on her chest; now being able to escape from her and go towards the park again.
Landing near where Marinette had been sitting, you extended your hand out to her as you apologetically smiled for making her wait.
Once she accepted your request, you used one hand to hold her waist and your other hand to hold onto your staff, extending it up in the air to jump up buildings after buildings until you've reached a good hiding spot.
"You must be very charming to have all your friends sacrificing themselves for you." You started, holding her closer to prevent her from falling as you ran, "So why is it that your grandma is so mad?"
"I think she wanted me to spend more time with her." She explained, letting out a saddened look once you both landed on the Eiffel Tower.
You immediately took notice of her look, and grabbed her shoulders to get her attention as you gave her a saddened look of your own, "Don't blame yourself, Marinette. If anything, you're so... amazing. I'll do my very best to get her back safe."
Ignoring the way that you had put your own feelings into these wordsโ and how suspicious it could've gottenโ, you were about to jump off the tower until your ears perked up at the your own sudden thought.
"Oh, and happy birthday, Marinette." You congratulated, now finally jumping off to head back towards the park.
The villainess continued singing in the air, turning specific people into coal and others into fairiesโ strengthening her army. You sneakily followed behind until you've reached a few more buildings in front of her to trip her off with your staff.
"Chatรณn Noire comes too, unexpectedly. Uh..." You sang, only now grimacing at the fact that you couldn't continue rhyming, "How do you even rhyme with that?"
"Fighting evil with her lady." Ladybug joined, slightly stunning you once she landed gracefully beside you.
"That's right. Insightful as always, bug."
"You little thief!" Befana raged out, "Where have you hidden Marinetta?"
You only shrugged.
"Watch out or you'll be getting a time-out of your own." Ladybug threatened.
"Take care of these two villains." Befana commanded, and her army of fairies had flew directly at you both. Using your staff to help you prevent the enemies' attacks, you didn't ponder to check on Befana until the sound of her vehicle had reached your ears.
You felt your eyes widen in panic as she reached towards the Eiffel Tower.
"We can't let her go to the Eiffel Tower!" You yelled out.
"And why not?"
"That's where I left her granddaughter!" You hurriedly explained, already extending your staff to reach Befana quickly.
You gave her an innocent toothy smile as Befana felt the sudden weight on the back of her motorcycle, "Mind taking me as well? But I don't think she's here, lemme take you to her!"
You had successfully managed to spun the vehicle around until the villainess had begun spinning the motorcycle uncontrollably around and caused you to fall off. And before you could reach the ground, Ladybug caught you and brought you back on the Eiffel Tower.
"What a sweet little ladybug you are. You'd make a perfect fairy!" Befana complimented, blasting shots at her shortly afterwards which Ladybug avoided.
"Thanks, but no thanks!" She yelled out, her voice slightly muffled to you as she was already on the top of the tower.
"You can't turn down a gift, you rude little imp. You take care of the kitty, my fairies, while I punish this polka-dot brat."
At her command, the fairies swarmed together to fly directly at you. You panicked before managing to avoid every attack they had been taking on you, jumping around until you've got to reach the staircase that led up the tower. Once it was impossible for them to enter the small metal cages that surrounded the tower, you stayed at that specific floor until Ladybug decided to show up.
"Chatรณn Noire!" She called out, making you turn to face her, "I saw Befana dodging her own candies. Even she can't touch them!"
Befana followed after Ladybug, making you both notice that she had added more candies to her gun.
"The candy bag! That's where the akuma has to be." You observed, resulting in a hum of agreement from the heroine beside you.
"Of course! Lucky charm!" She yelled out, earning a tuba in return.
"Maybe if Befana enjoys your tuba playing, she'll let us go." You joked, earning a small kick from the polka-dotted heroine.
Suddenly, Befana shot mutiple shots that you both mistook for her trying to aim at one of you as you guys moved hopelessly around until a small circle was formed around you both. The floor turned into coal and you guys crashed down the next floor with a grunt.
"You've both been very naughty. I'm gonna have to take your toys away from you!" Befana cackled, cornering you both into the ground with her gun pointed towards you.
Ugh couldn't she have just turned you into coal when you were up there and save all this suspense?
"Okay! You win, Befana." Ladybug uttered, making you give her a skeptical look and she winked at you in return, "Ohโ I lied, I do know where your granddaughter is at. Sorry."
"Never too late to tell the truth, right?"
Befana narrowed her eyes at you both suspiciously, "I don't believe you."
"I'll take you to her myself." You got up from the ground slowly, putting your hands up in surrender and bit your lips from your nervousness. Befana followed after you, eyeing the fairies behind her.
"Keep an eye on the ladybug." She ordered, making you now worry for both Ladybug and Marinette.
Walking slowly was an understatement, as you acted like you tripped over a rock every once in a while to waste time. Befana would groan at you every time you did it, pointing her gun at you for your incompetence in simply taking her to Marinette.
"Sorry! It's y'know... the nerves from the gun." You sheepishly said, now standing in front of the broom closet you assumed she had hidden in. Slowly opening it, you let out a deep sigh of relief when you saw she wasn't there.
"What's the meaning of this?! She isn't here!" Befana seethed.
"Guess she took the intelligence of the family." You shrugged, making the villainess scowl out at your words.
Befana seemed to have wanted to point her gun at you once again, but the sound of the elevator had halted her movements, "There you are. Nice try, Marinetta! But you won't get away that easily."
You ran over to the elevator in panic, suddenly stopping your movements when you saw Befana jump off the railing and on top of her motorcycle to follow after her. Feeling a frown upon your face, you pulled out your staff from behind you.
To your surprise, Ladybug appeared beside you, stopping you before you could follow after Befana.
"Don't worry, kitty. Marinette is safe." Ladybug assured, though you were still somewhat hesitant. But you still nodded nonetheless.
You both jumped off the tower, landing right on time to see what was inside the elevator door. Unlike your own curiosity, Ladybug had spent her time wrapping her yo-yo around the tubaโ bringing it closer to her.
"Chatรณn Noire, fire hydrant!" She ordered.
Calling out for your cataclysm, you opened the small door from the fire hydrant and pushed your hand down the button. Water immediately began bursting into the air and Ladybug placed the tuba over it. The water began flowing into Befana, making her shot at it and everything that was caused from the water to become coalโ including her. You heard Ladybug let out a victorious laugh before grabbing the candy bag that was hung around her waist.
"No more evil doing for you, little akuma! Time to de-evilize!" Ladybug yelled out, bringing everything back to normal after doing her usual motto.
"Pound it!"
โ
The party continued, even after the ridiculous attack beforehand, but it seemed to have an effect on everyone as the party vibe grew stronger. You sat on the near bench at the moment, now finally removing the horrid looking lucky charm you spent time with from your pocket to inspect it for a bit. Also the one she gave you, just for a comparison between the both.
It was only after she had blown out the candles from her cake that you've got the courage to bring yourself to stand up from the bench to hand it to her.
You just hoped you didn't look as flustered as you felt.
Once everybody returned to the dance floor, and she was left alone of course, you walked up to herโ holding the charm almost tightly as if the wind were to blow it away.
"Uh, Marinette." You called her, placing a hand over her shoulder to have her attention. Once she turned around, you felt a wide smile on your lips once you saw red hues placed on her usual pale cheeks, "Sorry for bothering you, but I had another gift I really wanted to give you."
Finally loosing your hold on the charm, it had become more visible for her and you saw her gasp at the sight, so you decided to explain its meaning.
"I kept the charm you've gave me and it really worked." You whispered, showing the charm she had given you with a smile, "I wanted to make you one that somewhat had my favorite colors into it."
You held both the charms on your palm, showing her the comparison between the pair. One had Marinette's favorite colors (you assumed) meanwhile the other had yours. And even if it were a ridiculous scheme of colors, it had your favorites made into one.
"I'm lucky to have your charm with me all the time, Marinette." Was your final words, hoping that it'd be enough for her to realize how important she was to you.
She grabbed the charm from your hand, intertwining with it for a second before she had managed to fully grasp it with her own hand.
"Ohโ you're beautiful. Ah! I mean it's beautiful! Really, and really beautiful... I'll wear it with love. I mean! I'll wear it.. the charm I mean." She fumbled around her words, making you laugh at her to prevent your heart from bursting into flames at the sight of her watching you with such adoration.
"Thank you."
Unlike her other responses, this held more confidence and you could only smile in return.
