"Y/N!" Denki sobbed, pounding on her door, "Open the door!"

Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, the girl opened the door a slight crack. Denki's yellow hair was a mess and fat tears were streaming down his face. His phone was clutched in one hand so tightly to the point his knuckles were turning pale.

"Kami? Did something happen?" she sighed as the boy pushed his way into her bedroom and threw himself onto her bed, crawling into the covers and sobbing into her pillows. The girl sighed with exasperation, "Seriously. What the hell."

Lobbing his phone at her, he buried deeper into the pillow, huffing and puffing, trying to calm his breathing.

"Elderly dog euthanized?" Y/N mumbled, reading the screen. Denki threw his hand out, "STOP! NO MORE! I can't, I can't! It's so sad. The dog didn't do anything."

The girl clicked his phone off before taking a seat next to his shuddering form, "Yeah. I hate shelters like that."

"He died all alone," Denki muttered, more tears streaming out of his eyes, "What if I die alone? Like the dog?"

"You're not going to die alone."

"You don't know that!"

"I'll make sure you don't die alone, Kami."

-

The dog wagged its tail as Y/N played with her ears. Her tongue was lolling out of her mouth and she moved onto Y/N's lap. The girl laughed as she watched Denki get tackled by a Great Dane.

"Oh I wonder if you can do tricks," Y/N murmured to the dog before sticking out her hand, "Can you give me your paw?"

The dog lifted its right paw and placed it gently into Y/N's waiting hand and gave a small 'woof'.

"Good, good," Y/N smiled, offering more attention to the dog.

"Y/N! HELP!" Denki's cries for aid was muffled as the Great Dane shoved his nose into his mouth. Y/N chose to ignore her companion as she leaned against the tree at the dog shelter.

Denki had dragged her here, saying they needed to rescue all the dogs and cats in this particular shelter, due to their unforgivable kill policy and history. How he figured this out, she did not know, but she would be crazy to pass up the chance to play with animals.

"DON'T IGNORE ME!"

"Why do you get yourself into these situations? Here, boy!"

"ARE YOU TALKING TO ME OR THE DOG?"

The Great Dane bounded toward her at the sound of her voice, leaving Denki to clean his mouth of dog spit. The large dog sat on the grass, allowing her to scratch his neck.

"Why does he not jump on you?"

Y/N scoffed, "You jumped at him first, Denki."

He clambered up and flopped down next to her. He rested his palm on the smaller dog's head and gazed at the ramshackle dog shelter, "Wanna burn this place?"

"Let's fucking do it."

-

Picking up three small dogs at once, Y/N tucked them into her chest and clambered over the metal fence, "Kami, get that dumbass cat. He keeps hissing at me and scratching me."

"And you think the cat won't bite me if I try touching it?" Denki groaned, "I'll do it if you promise to curb-stomp me later."

"For what?"

"You're hot. It's an honor to be stepped on by someone like you."

"Weird request, but okay."

Denki braced himself before stooping down and scooping the cat in his arms. It immediately began yowling, desperately trying to drag its long claws down Denki's face. The two of them began running towards the nearest no-kill dog shelter, dropping the animals down in the fenced area, designated for animal drop-offs.

His arms were full of reddened claw marks, and his jacket was sporting various colors of both dog and cat hair. Denki sighed loudly, before tossing the jacket into the pen with the animals.

"How many more do we have?"

Y/N did a mental count, "I think we just have a really old Golden Retriever and a disabled Chihuahua left."

The yellow-haired boy sighed, rubbing his temple, "Okay. Let's go do this. I've always wanted to commit arson."

Hurrying back, Y/N gently snatched up the Chihuahua and began guiding the Golden Retriever away from the shelter, "Nothing will hurt you again, lovelies."

The two dogs slightly wagged their tails as they gazed tiredly up at her. Slowing down her pace, she made it to where the Golden Retriever could walk by her side, and not feel anxious.

She put the Chihuahua in the pen, and huffed loudly before squatting down and picking up the larger dog as well, "That's the last of you."

Denki should have the supplies ready by now. They were actually going to commit crimes in the ghost world.

"You all ready?"

"Of course."

The yellow-haired boy handed her a box of matches, "You start it. I don't want to accidentally burn another place."

Striking the match on the side of the box, she triumphantly lifted up the sparkling fire and tossed it onto the shelter.

The flames soon spread, dancing a deadly red, billowing slightly in the wind. Denki's eyes were full of awe, as he felt the heat plaster itself onto his skin. The crackling, the smell of charred wood, it all seemed so surreal.

In the distance, they could hear an alarm, getting closer and closer to them. She placed a hand on Denki's shoulder with a wicked grin, "It was karma for them. Don't regret it now."

"Who said I was regretting it?"

"Good. We should probably go."

The boy looked at her smugly as he bounded forward, "Now I get to be stepped on!"
