"Class Dismissed, have a good day y'all! Your thesis on microbiology in animal science is due on the twenty-fourth!" Your professor said as you closed your notebook and packed up your stuff.
You and the rest of your classmates filed out of the lecture hall and into the bright sunlight of the Cornell campus. As soon as you turned and started to walk towards your car, You pulled out your phone and smiled down at the screen, where you had many text notifications from your girlfriend, Olivia.
You responded to each message as you kept walking

Figuring that your girlfriend was probably busy doing something amazing, you put your phone in your back pocket and unlocked your car.
You took a moment to breathe in the serenity of your car, just peace.
And then you got an idea.
You grinned and got back out of your car. You locked the door and walked quickly back to campus. You had to be at work in forty minutes, so you had to get this done quickly.
It didn't take long, you went into the campus store and picked out a sweatshirt, it was red and had 'Cornell' embroidered on the chest, you bought it oversized, and after paying went back to your car.
You quickly peeled off the light blue sweatshirt you'd been wearing and put on the Cornell sweatshirt, it was soft and heavy in a comforting way.
You knew Olivia's birthday was only about three weeks away, so over the next week and a half, whenever it was cold enough or you felt like wearing a hoodie or sweatshirt, you wore the Cornell one, to wear it in and get it smelling like you.
Two weeks passed by in a jiffy, you went to school, work, and then worked out, which filled your days and didn't leave you with much time to yourself.
This was key, as there was a small part of your plan that you had to keep very secret from Olivia, she knew you'd bought a school hoodie, but she didn't know you had the intention of giving it to her, in person, on her birthday.
Genius, huh?
except you'd fallen in love with your girlfriend's personality, not her face. Small roadblock; you'd never actually seen her face.
there were small seeds of doubt planted in your stomach, but you knew you had to go through with this.
You and Olivia had an open relationship, and over the course of the year and a half that you'd dated, you'd also gotten close with her Girl-best-friend, Iris. Which was going to come in handy right about now.
It was one week before Olivia's birthday, and you'd finished everything for the day were waiting for Chinese food to be delivered, so you put on some friends, and grabbed your phone.
You clicked into Iris's contact and started to type.

Hey Iris..so you cannot tell liv about this, but I'm planning a birthday surprise for her, and i need your help with something.
World's best girlfriend checkkkk which my bf would do that for me...anyways off-topic, whatdya need?
Her address...I'm mailing her something.
After that, iris usefully sent you your girlfriend's address, and you went onto the united airlines website.
For being one week early, you got the best seats on the first flight of the day from Ithaca NY, to LAX, where you'd then catch a taxi to Olivia's house.
You'd gotten Iris on board to keep Olivia busy at her house that day until you texted that you were around the corner, then she'd head out and you'd knock on Olivia's door and surprise her with you know...yourself, and the Cornell sweatshirt, since you would eventually have to go back to school.
You were taking three days off to spend with Olivia, and you were excited as fuck that you were about to meet your girlfriend.
The last week flew by as you worked extra hours and slaved away at all your big assignments so you could spend the three days without having to stress, and then finally the day came.
Your alarm blared in your ear, and it was a struggle to open your eyes, but you did.
You quickly got in an ice-cold shower and made an effort to look good, you hid the bags under your eyes and braided your wet hair so that it would be silky and wavy when you took the braids out.
After eating a quick breakfast, you eventually got to the airport.
Everything went normally and soon enough you were boarding the crowded plane.
seven hours with one layover...in short; not a short flight.
Downloaded Netflix movies and your books kept you busy enough, and before your childish nerves could catch up, you felt the sinking feeling of the plane jerking out from below you, as its wheels made contact with the smooth black pavement.
You pulled your AirPods out of your ears as you heard the 'ding' of the seatbelt sign turn off.
why does getting off a plane take so long? you thought as you waited impatiently in a line in the small isle, with your roller bag squeezed next to your legs.
It took about thirty minutes for you to maneuver your way out the large airport, but soon you were met with a warm wall of fresh air as you stepped out the doors of the stuffy airport. for the first time in hours, you pulled down your mask and got a proper breath of air.
It helped calm your nerves as you waited for an open taxi.
A little while later, a bright yellow taxi pulled up and you directed the driver to Olivia's place.
<< TIME SKIP >>
By the time the taxi pulled up at Olivia's house, your heart was pounding and your stomach felt tense, this was the moment you'd been waiting for.
You'd texted Iris about twenty minutes prior and she'd left just as you pulled onto Olivia's street.
You lifted your heavy roller bag out of the trunk and the taxi quickly sped away.
You took a minute to take a few deep breaths before you started to roll your bag across the stone walkway, it made a loud clacking sound as it rolled over the ridges in the concrete, but way too soon for your liking, you were standing outside the impressive house, just trying to work up the courage to knock.
Before you could chicken out like the wimp you were, you quickly rapped the knocker on the door and tried to swallow your fear.
In no time at all, the heavy brown door swung open to reveal a medium height woman with long, shiny brown hair that cascaded over her face as she looked down for a second.
"Iri-" The girl started
She looked up then, and any breath you once had left your body.
You recognized that face.
You were looking at the face of your girlfriend, who was unbeknownst to you, a mega worldwide singer/songwriter.
You were looking at Olivia Rodrigo.
