Seventeen; A Second Kiss

Words: 1346

I had spent an hour alone with Jasper, and we headed back to the living room. Rosalie and Carlisle were playing chess, Esme and Alice were reading a book, Emmett was simply complaining about being bored. Edward was leaving.

"You know you aren't actually that good at faking reading books." I told Alice, sitting down next to her.

"What?" She asked, surprised.

"Oh come on you're just staring at the middle of the book and flipping the pages every minute." I stated.

"I thought I could get away with it, humans aren't that observant." She pouted.

"You should've seen it coming." Jasper joked, I looked at the both of them, not getting the joke. "Alice can see the future."

Esme got up, finishing her book. Alice scooted over, and I followed suit, Jasper sat down next to me. He casually put his arm behind me, laying it on the couch. I didn't say anything. I didn't have anything to add. Or a snarky remark.

"Ugh! It's not fair you always win!" Rosalie complained abruptly, knocking her chair over as she got up. Carlisle remained calm and smiled a slight victorious look in his smile.

"Do you know how to play chess?" Jasper asked me, I smiled mischievously. I had learned to play in group homes. I crammed in a few skills. Knowing chess was one of the best ways to get assholes away from you. The chess table sat directly in the middle of the living area. It was where there were too many people to do anything. There was always someone who wanted to play. I used to be horrible, but now I was always guaranteed to win.

"Yeah, I know how to play." He studied my face for a second.

"Let's play then." He said, and Alice casually slipped on the couch were she would be out of my sight. I wasn't that oblivious.

"Definitely not." I said. "No cheating."

"What?" Jasper played dumb, but he glanced at Alice. A good thing to do, look at the person you're lying with.

"Remember what I said about you being a horrible liar?" I asked.

"It's not true." He gestured for Alice to go back to her original spot. Where I suspiciously watched her from time to time she would move her hands in the direction I was going to my chess. I then wondered if I simply didn't decide where I was going to go, well I would lie to myself, to lie to the future. It seemed confusing, but I strongly decided I was going to go somewhere, and then I went somewhere else. I almost lost, not because Alice was letting Jasper cheat, but because Jasper was good. I was just better, this time. I knew there'd be times I'd lose if I continued to play.

"You're just lucky." Jasper shook his head.

"No, I'm just better." I smiled sarcastically at him. He returned the sarcastic smile.

"She's too good at adapting." Alice pouted. "She's already defied my gift."

"Well I had to, I saw you two cheating."

"If you guys start fighting, chess will have to be banned from the house." Esme warned.

"What?!" We all said.

"Wait I don't even live here what am I complaining about?" I laughed at my stupidity, maybe I wasn't used to being in one house just yet.

"You're complaining because then you can't beat Jasper's ass at chess." Emmett grinned at me.

"You know, your right." I nodded in agreement.

"Also you guys ban things?" I questioned, they banned things in group homes, but this definitely wasn't a group home.

"Monopoly and twister is banned." Rosalie muttered.

"Why?" I asked in curiosity.

"I threw monopoly out the window." Emmett muttered.

"Twister wasn't fair! I can't help that I'm ticklish!" Alice whined. I laughed at both statements.

"Okay we're gonna go before a fight breaks out." Jasper stood up.

"That would be a good reason to leave." I agreed. I said my goodbyes, liking the family more than I should have. We headed out the door, and down the few steps, got into his car and he sped away from his beautiful house.

"That was fun." I told him honestly.

"Yeah?" He asked, as if to ensure my statement.

"Yeah, I didn't think I'd like people this much. Alice is fun. You both are dirty cheaters though." I gave him a sarcastic disappointed look.

"I wasn't expecting her to move, but I guess she saw that you'd win." He told me honestly.

We pulled into the driveway, but I didn't want to leave him. I wanted to stay with him. He seemed to sense my reluctance to get out of the car. He got out first, opening the door for me. He then walked me inside.

"Charlie's not home, and neither is Bella. I could stay with you if you'd like?" He asked, his voice almost a whisper.

"Yeah-yeah stay." I stuttered in my surprise. I hadn't really expected the question, well obviously I wouldn't be surprised if I was expecting it. I opened the door, heading inside. I took him up the stairs, the house was so quiet and still, just as it always was, except for when Charlie was watching TV or I was playing guitar.

I plopped down on my bed, wishing I was exhausted, but I wasn't. Normally people exhausted me, but I couldn't be exhausted.

I realized he was going to wait for directions before he moved from his spot by the door. I patted a spot next to me on my bed. "Sit, we're watching a movie."

He was surprised that I never really asked questions, but my tone was never bossy. If he wanted to say no he could. I grabbed the laptop Charlie had given me, he had just gotten a new one and said I could have his old one. It was a silver, barely even used laptop. He used the one he had now frequently, for work. He didn't seem to do work at home as often, he did work, at work.

It made sense, he wasn't alone anymore, he had people to spend time with. Charlie was going to get groceries tonight, too. He'd be out a little late. Bella would get home before him.

I shuffled around some Cd's in the movie cupboard downstairs. I found the breakfast club. A movie I had watched with Charlie, I had never seen it before, I wasn't allowed to watch movies. He said I was uncultured and lived under a rock. I liked the movie lots, so it was the one we'd watch. I knew Jasper probably didn't watch movies often, but he would probably know all of them. I headed up the stairs. He was patiently waiting, sitting on my bed still. In the exact same position as before.

I closed my door and sat next to him. I closed my door because I didn't have the privilege to do so before, I had to go to the bathrooms to change.

I laid down next to him, starting the movies. He seemed to know the movie, and liked it.

"You know, I felt like you'd be the girl to like this movie." He whispered.

"There's people who don't?" I asked, pretending to be offended. Of course the movie was good, but people over one hundred may not like it.

"You can talk with Rosalie about that." He smiled, I scoffed.

"Not cool, how could someone not like this movie?" I asked rhetorically. He didn't answer, instead he looked at me. His eyes had filled with an emotion I could never read. Slowly, he leaned in, and pressed his lips against mine. This time I wouldn't freak out and embarrass myself, this time I wouldn't walk away.

I wrapped my arm around his neck, to pull him closer. The laptop fell off of my lap, but it wasn't really either of our worries.

The only thing we knew was each other, at least now. Now all we could see was each other.
