chapter twenty eight. gender reveal party.

"Jay...baby" Sam says, nudging her boyfriend awake, "Jay!"

"Huh, what?" Jay says, opening his eyes to see his girlfriend sitting in beside him, smiling.

"How can you be sleeping at a time like this?"

Jay looks over at the alarm clock that reads, 6:45 a.m. "Because it's not even seven and it's our day off"

"But baby.." Sam whines, "Today is the day we get to find out if our baby is a boy or girl"

"Yeah, but not for another six hours" Jay says, rolling onto his side.

"Fine, you're no fun"

Sam gets out of the bed and walks into the living room and sits, turning on the tv, watching her favorite show, 'The Office'.

Sam looks over at the side table next to the couch and she sees a picture of her and her mom and she gets tears in her eyes and grabs the picture and looks at it. "I miss you so much mom. I think you'd be proud of how far I've come and accomplished. I wish you were here today with me, finding out what I'm having"

Jay leans on the doorframe and listens to his girlfriend talk. He hates seeing Sam like this, but he knows it's hard to help her when it comes to her mother.

"Thanks Hank for letting us use your house for Sam's gender reveal party" Gabby says, as she and Sylvie walk into Voight's house with boxes full of decorations and more.

"Yeah, of course. I'm heading out so if you leave don't forget to lock up"

"Yeah, no problem" Gabby says, as Voight leaves and said girl starts putting up decorations in the living room and kitchen, while Sylvie starts setting up outside in the backyard.

"Ugh, this baby is tiring me out" Sam says, brushing through her wet hair, as Jay steps out of the shower and wraps a towel around his waist.

"Me too" Jay says and Sam rolls her eyes.

"Hey baby, it's your daddy" Jay whispers, placing a hand on Sam's belly, "I can't wait to meet you and find out if you're a boy or a girl"

Sam and Jay look at each other in shock when they feel something move. "Oh my god, the baby just kicked"

"That was unreal" Jay says.

"So, you got the envelope from the doctors about the gender right?" Sylvie questions her friend as the two set up a tent in the backyard.

"Yup and gave it to the lady at the bakery"

"So you don't know if it's a boy or a girl?"

"I do actually"

"It's a boy, right?"

"I guess you'll just have to find out" Gabby smiles and Sylvie glares at her.

The doorbell rings and Gabby goes back inside the house to answer it and finds her fiancé and brother standing there. "Hey you two"

"Hey, we know we're early but we thought we could help set up" Matt says.

"No, yeah, come in"

Matt and Antonio walk in and look around Voight's house, while Gabby closes the door.

"This place looks great" Matt smiles.

"Thanks. Slyvie was actually just guessing what the baby is gonna be"

"Definitely a boy" Antonio says.

"Girl" Casey says.

Voight sits in his vehicle, across the street watching Kallie Scott get out of her car with his grandson Wyatt.

Kallie Scott looks up and makes eye contact with Voight, and once she feels emptiness in her stomach she brings Wyatt inside the house and looks at Hank one more time before closing the door.

"Jay can you get the door, I'm putting on my makeup" Sam shouts to her boyfriend from her vanity.

Jay opens the door to find the DCFS worker and Denise standing there and Jay smiles. Sam walks into the living room and hears Jay say 'really'.

"Jay, who is it?" Sam asks, and stops in her tracks when she sees Denise, "Wait, is this a joke?"

"No. She's all yours" Patrice says and Denise walks in and gives Sam a hug.

"Wait, I thought you were gonna call?"

"I was going to but then I thought bringing her here instead would be better"

"Thank you, Patrice" Jay says.

"Of course. I'll be back in a couple weeks for a check up"

"Yeah of course" Jay says, closing the door. "We're so happy you're here, Denise"

"And just in time to come to the baby's gender reveal party too" Sam says.

"I think it's gonna be a girl"

"Yes, she knows what's up" Jay smiles and him and Denise high five.

"Yeah, yeah. Well, we have a room set up for you. It's nothing special yet, since we're looking at houses. But for now, I thought it would do" Sam says, as she and Jay show Denise her new room.

"Do you like it?" Jay asks.

"Yeah, I do"

"I thought that since we'd be moving, you'd like to decorate your own room however you wanted" Sam says and Denise hugs her and Jay.

"Thank you guys. I love it"

All of Sam's friends from the 51 firehouse and the 21st district gather into Voight's house for the party, wearing either a pink or blue shirt for what they think the baby will be.

"Alright, everybody, listen up" Gabby says, as everyone gathers around, "Sam and Jay will be here any minute and thank you guys for showing up and I know Sam would appreciate it because she loves everyone here like we do for her. So enjoy the food and we'll kick off on games in a little bit"

"Al, man. What are you wearing?" Adam asks his partner. "What, I couldn't decide so I went with black"

"Well it's gonna be a boy, obviously"

"Who are you?" Kelly asks, when a little girl he didn't know opens the door from inside Jay and Sam's apartment.

The fourteen year old raises and eyebrow, "Denise, who are you?"

"Kelly"

Jay walks over to them and invites Kelly in. "Hey man. This is Denise, our foster child"

"Hey Denise, nice to meet you" Kelly says, fist bumping with Denise and closing the door behind him.

"You too"

"I see you're going with pink, too"

"Hell yeah" Denise says and the two guys smile.

Sam walks out of her bedroom, in a long, light blue dress, all set to leave when she sees, Kelly, Jay and Denise all wearing pink. "So, it's three agaisnt one, huh? Well, when it's a boy, you'll all be sorry"

"Right" Kelly laughs.

Sam, Kelly, Jay and Denise arrive at Hank's house and walk in to see amazing decorations and people chatting and having fun.

"Wow, this place looks great" Sam says, as they continue to walk through the house and into the backyard.

"Sam, hey"

"Hey Kev" Sam smiles as the two hug, then Kevin and Jay do their bro hug thing, "Thank you for coming"

"Of course, anything for the homegirl" Kevin says, as the two fist bump.

As everyone parts ways to say hi, except for Denise who stays with Sam, said girl walks over to Gabby and Sylvie.

"Hey guys" Sam says, hugging both Gabby and Sylvie.

"Sam, hey. What do you think?"

"It's amazing. You guys did so great and thank you for doing this. You didn't have to"

"We wanted to" Sylvie smiles.

"Who's this?" Gabby asks.

"Denise. Nice to meet you" Denise smiles and holds out her hand for Gabby and Sylvie to shake.

"Well, nice to meet you Denise. I'm Gabby and this is Sylvie"

"Denise here, is our foster daughter" Sam smiles.

"Congratulations. Big day today, huh"

"The best day ever. Dee, you want to stay and talk with them? I got a few more people to see" Sam asks.

"Yeah"

Sam leaves to go see the rest of her friends while Denise talks with Gabby and Sylvie. "So you guys are firefighters?"

"I am, yes and Sylvie is a paramedic"

"Cool. I would love to be a paramedic when I grow up"

Sam walks over to Kelly who is talking with Peter, Hermann, Mouch and Trudy.

"Hey guys" Sam smiles.

"Sam, congratulations again" Mouch says, giving the pregnant girl a hug.

"Thank you, is pouch here?"

"Somewhere yes" Mouch says and everyone laughs.

"So, you all think it's a girl huh?"

"Heck yes" Hermann says.

"Well, thank you guys for coming out. I appreciate it"

"Anything for baby chuckles" Trudy says.

Sam walks along the lawn saying hi to everyone when she spots Hank and Erin next to the tent and says, "I finally found you two"

"Hey Sammy" Erin says, giving her friend a hug.

"How you feeling today?" Sam asks.

"I'm alright. Can't wait to find out if I'm having a godson or goddaughter"

"I'm just glad you think it's a boy to, because I feel like nobody else does"

"I'm happy for you Sam" Hank smiles.

"Thanks Hank"

"Alright guys, it's time to find out the gender of the baby. Will Jay and Sam come stand over here in front of everybody please" Gabby says and the couple does as told.

"So, Gabby and I thought a cool way to find out the gender is for colored smoke to come out of this box. Even though she wouldn't tell me what gender it is" Sylvie says and everyone laughs, "You guys ready?"

Sam and Jay look at each other and smile, "Yeah, I think we are"

Gabby places the box in front of the couple and presses a button and now they wait for the colored smoke to appear.

As the smoke starts to pour out of the box, the white smoke quickly turns to the color PINK!

Sam kneels down on the ground and starts crying as Jay kneels down next to her and pulls her into a hug, while everyone cheers and smiles.

"I can't believe we're having a girl"

Jay and Sam kiss, as Denise runs over to them and hugs them. "So, you're gonna be a sister, you excited?"

"Hell yes" Denise says and they all laugh.
