chapter twenty. what do you do.

Sam, Jay and Kelly are sat at a local diner eating breakfast and Sam just stares at her best friend and smiles.

"Sammy, why are you staring?" Kelly questions, taking a bite of his toast.

"Sorry. We uh, got you something"

"Yeah?" Kelly asks and Jay hands the brunette a smallish square box, which Kelly accepts, "What's this for?"

"Just open it" Sam says, still smiling.

After Kelly opens the box and reads the mug that says, 'Uncle: Like a dad but cooler', said man looks up at his best friend with wide eyes. "Wait...really?"

Sam and Jay both nod their heads and the three get out of the booth and Kelly pulls his best friend into a bear hug. "I can't believe this. I am so happy for you"

"Thank you" Sam says with tears in her eyes. Letting go from the hug, Kelly wipes away her tears.

"You're a great mother, Sammy" then Kelly shakes Jay's hand, "Congrats man and good luck"

"Thanks man, I'm gonna need it" Jay says, and they all chuckle, when Sam nudges him and Jay then looks at his watch, "We should get going. It's 8"

"Yeah, okay" Sam says, giving her best friend one last hug before the couple departs to the 21st.

Sam and Jay head up to the unit and sit at their desks, to get settled in for a long day of paperwork.

After about half an hour or so, Hank walks onto the unit with Dan Jenkins -expert of the taser.-

"Alright, everybody. A warm Intelligence welcome to Dan Jenkins. He's here to school us in the fine art of, uh..." Voight trails off, which Dan finishes his sentence. "Taser certification"

"Taser certification" Voight repeats, "That sounds like a ball"

"No offense big homie" Kevin says, looking up from a file, from a file cabinet near Sam's desk, "But we're not really the 'tasering type of department'"

"Well, I'm not really 'the want to be here type of cop' but the CPD says it's mandatory. You don't like it, take it up with the commissoner" Dan says.

"Hey, it's all good with me" Kevin says, putting his hands up in defense, while Jay looks at his pregnant girlfriend with concern.

"Uh, you're in this, too, Sergeant" Jenkins says, as everyone watches Voight walk into his office.

"I'll just stick to tickling perps to death" Voight jokes.

"You're free to ask him again" Dawson says, leaning on his desk.

"Will Rogers obviously never met Sergeant Voight...Alright then" Jenkins says, putting a silver box on top of Nadia's desk and opens it, "The rest of you gather round, give me your names for the certification"

"Hey, how long is this gonna take?" Adam asks.

"You got a date?"

"Yes, I do actually"

"Where is Samantha Miller?" Jenkins asks, ignoring Ruzek and Sam raises her hand, "Alright, you've been excused from doing the certification"

Sam and Jay take a big sigh of relief.

"Why does Sam get excused?" Adam asks.

"Because she's pregnant" Dan says and Sam facepalms herself and everyone looks at her, even Hank who is standing at the doorway of his office.

"Sam, you're pregnant?" Ruzek asks and Sam smiles and nods her head, "That's great, congrats" then said male says and goes over to his friend and hugs her.

"My apologies, I didn't know it was a secret" Dan says.

"So, we're all gonna be uncles right?" Dawson asks.

"Well, I hope so" Sam smiles. Once everyone hugs Sam and congratulates her -even Hank-, Dawson asks, "So, who's the father? Do we know him?"

Jay clears his throat and everyone turns around to look at him with wide eyes then back at Sam then back at Jay again.

The team minus Al and Hank -who are in Hank's office-, are standing around a black mat, learning more about the 'art of taser certification' by Dan Jenkins. 

"The X26 sends 50,000 volts through these two prongs" Jenkins says, holding up a taser, "It disrupts the electrical communication between your nerves and your neurotransmitters. You want to make contact with the torso. Which is, shoulders, pelvis, abdomen, groin. S-P-A-G"

"Come on man, let's get on with it, alright?" Adam says.

"Due time, due time. Now you all, minus Sam, will need to be tasered to be certified. It is completely harmless, but you will know what it feels like to be juiced, which will allow you to definitively testify in court on the reaction to the electrical exposure..."

"Yeah, we get it, man, okay?" Adam says interrupting Dan, while looking at his phone.

"Oh good, a volunteer" Dan says, then he tasers Ruzek, while Kevin tries to hold him up and the team starts laughing.

"Oh, that was worth the price of admission" Jay says, laughing, which quickly turns into a frown when Jenkins says. "You're next"

"I'll tase him" Sam volunteer's, holding up her hand and Jenkins holds out the taser for her to take, while the couple walks over to stand on the black mat.

"Okay. I mean, this doesn't seem like, official enough" Jay says with concern.

"Well, where do you want it?" Sam asks with a smirk, "S, P, A or G?"

"Shoulders" Jay says but everyone calls out 'G'.

"I thought you loved me?" Jay asks with his bottom lip sticking out.

"With all my heart, but.." Sam chuckles, "It's for the certification"

"Don't you dare!"

After the taser certification thing was done and the team helps Adam on a gut instinct -which was on point. Kim and Sean got caught up in the middle of a smuggling operation- Sam heads to her grandfather's office.

"Come in" Commissioner Miller calls out and Sam walks in, "Samantha?"

"Can we talk?" Sam asks, going over to hit down in front of the commissioners desk.

"Of course"

"So, I got dismissed from the taser certification today because I'm pregnant. Now how would Dan Jenkins know something like that?"

"Because I told him" Daniel Miller confesses.

"And how did you find out?"

"Kelly Severide told me because he knew you wouldn't"

Sam rolls her eyes and says. "Of course"

"Well, I'm happy for you"

"Are you really though?" Sam questions.

"Yes"

"I'm surprised because I know you're the reason Wyatt was taken from me and Justin"

"You know" Daniel clears his throat and sits up in his chair.

"Well, I wasn't sure, until now" Sam then gets up from her chair and storms off to the door.

"Samantha, look, you have to know I did it for you"

"For me?" Sam scoffs, "I wanted to take care of him. Me and Justin love him. You had no right to take him away from us!"

"You were 16! And with a Voight at that"

"I was a mother! And you betrayed me...again! And Hank and his family have been more of a family to me then you will ever be. I never want to see you or speak to you again" Sam yells and slams the door behind her on the way out.

Sam knocks at Hank's door until he opens up with tears flooding her face, allowing her mascara to leave stains on her face.

"Sammy?"

"Hank, I need to tell you something"
