โ‹†ยฐ แƒ“ เผ„ UNTIL THERE WAS YOU
chapter ten. chicken, dynamite, chainsaw , part 1.

After a few weeks on bed rest, Sam has had enough. She needs to get back into the field before she goes crazy. I mean, sure she loves Jay catering to her every need, and I mean every need - wink wink- but after awhile, it gets to be a bit much.

A week after the accident Sam got to move back into her apartment and she took the opportunity to go, thinking it might get her some alone time but nope, that didn't stop Jay or Kelly from watching over her 24/7.

And even though her arm is still broken, Sam got the all clear from the doctor to go back to work -desk work- but no one needs to know about that part.

On Sam's first day back to work, she got up early, took a shower and changed -with the help of Jay- and the two head into the kitchen to grab a cup of caffeine.

"Thanks for helping me, Jay." Sam smiles.

"Of course. Anything for you" Jay smiles and pulls out the chair at the island for Sam to sit at.

"No seriously. I know the last few weeks have been kinda crazy. And I just want you to know, I appreciate everything you've done for me. You didn't have to"

"And I'd help you again and again. You deserve it" Jay says kissing the petite girl on the forehead and she blushes.

"Wow you have such a way with words, Jay Halstead"

"So I've been told" Jay says and heads over to the coffee maker to pour them both a cup, "Can I ask you something?"

"Anything" Sam says and Jay slides the blue mug in front of raven haired girl and takes a deep breath, "Jay, what's going on?"

Jay walks around the island and stands in between Sam's legs and asks, "What would you think, if I asked this beautiful girl, who goes by the name of Samantha Miller, to be my girlfriend?"

Sam couldn't help but smile from ear to ear. She's been waiting for Jay to ask her out since their first kiss. Sam uses her one good hand and places it on the back of Jay's neck and pulls him in for a kiss, then says, "I think she wouldn't even give it a second thought"

Jay takes another deep breath, and says, "Thank god" then smiles.

"Wait, you know about Voights policy about in house relationships, right?"

"Right...so we just won't tell anyone yet" Jay says and they kiss again.

"Except Kelly"

Jay laughs, and repeats, "Except Kelly"

Jay and Sam walk up to the unit to see three people in Voight's office with him, and the door closed.

"What's going on in there?" Sam questions, as Dawson walks out of the break room who says. "Commander Fischer came in with Alderman Becks and his wife, then shut the door. Now you have all the information I have"

"Oh" Sam says, walking over to her desk, behind her boyfriend.

"And it's good to have you back Miller"

"Thanks Dawson" Sam smiles and sits down, adjusting in her seat.

"You okay, Sammy?" Jay asks with a lot of concern laced in his voice.

"I'm fine, Jay. I'm just trying to get comfortable in this uncomfortable chair"

"Allison Becks, 16 years old. Last seen with her friend, Hayden Tannebaum" Antonio says pointing to the pictures on the whiteboard, "They were supposed to go back to Beck's' house after a study group. Neither showed"

"School records show that both girls are in all AP classes. They've got straight A's. Study groups plausible. Maybe they are jammed up" Lindsay comments.

"Allison's Dad woke up to an email this morning from Uber saying she booked a car in his account last night" Dawson continues.

"What the hell's an uber?" Al questions and Sam smiles and says. "It's like a taxi but you get a black car"

"Why don't you just say black car?" Al asks, now leaning against some filing cabinets.

"Well, it's not just black cars. It's regular cars too" Adam says but Al looks more confused than when this conversation started, "It's an app. You order it on your phone. It's got all your credit car info...never mind, I'm gonna call the company, see if I can get in touch with the driver"

"Good and you call states attorney Kot. I want a warrant for both girls' cell phones and computers" Voight tells Atwater.

"You got it boss"

"Hey, they have GPS on these black cars?" Hank asks and Jay nods his head and picks up his phone. Hank looks at Sam and pats her shoulder, "It's good to have you back Sammy" which makes the girl smile.

"Thanks Sarg"

"Hey, Sarg?" Adam says walking back onto the unit.

"Yeah"

"We got a problem with the driver"

๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŒ™

Sam, Antonio, Hank and Al get out of their SUV from behind a patrol car, in a secluded area to find the uber driver's car, the girls had used.

"Plates match. This is the car the girls used" Sam says, looking at the license plate number on a small piece of paper, she had just taken out of her pocket.

"Found blood in the back seat. Forensics is on it's way" The patrol officer tells the detectives.

As the group looks over the abandoned car, Al stands up, pulling his gun from the holster, with Sam, Hank and Antonio following in unison to the older man. And with Sam's arm currently in a sling, she has to hold her gun, one handed, like Voight.

Dawson, Voight and Miller follow Olinsky through the brush to find, who they assume to be the Uber driver, beaten up badly and tied up.

๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŒ™

Sam and Antonio are in the Uber driver's hospital room, questioning him about what happened.

"I'm at a light. Next thing I know, my door is jerked open. I'm ripped from my seat, my face...is pushed down into the brush. Took my phone, my wallet. Didn't say a word, just started beating me"

"Did you get a look at anyone?" Dawson asks.

"They wore masks...I'm sorry. Look everything's a blur. There were two of em'"

"What about the girls in the back seat?" Sam questions.

"I didn't..."

"What about before the attack?" Dawson asks, "You notice anyone suspicious hanging around the library where you made the pick up?"

"Library? I didn't pick them up from any library" The driver says and Antonio and Sam share a look.

๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŒ™

Sam is sitting at her desk, on her computer, when Voight walks onto the unit.

"Hey, Ruzek. Where we at with the drivers phone?" Hanks asks.

"I, uh, called the service provider. Gave em' the exigent circumstances speech. Yada, yada. Still waiting to hear back"

"Well, we found out the girls lied about the library. Got on the Uber GPS to see where the pick up did occur" Kevin says, taping a picture of a map onto the whiteboard, "Central Chicago University Dormitory. Where a kid named Jordan Biggs happens to live---"

Sam gets up from her seat and stands next to Jay, as Nadia hands her a paper, "Who's been blowing up Allison's phone with over 1000 text messages this month"

"All of Allison's responses are variations of 'leave me alone'" Sam comments, looking over the paper.

"So why was she at his dorm?" Dawson questions.

"Check it out" Hank tells Dawson and Atwater.

๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŒ™

The intelligence unit spreads out on the spot where the drivers phone was pinged last.

"Alright, signals weak, but it's around here somewhere" Adam says over the walkie.

"Alright. Spread out. We go through doors if we have to" Hank orders.

As the team looks around at buildings and the empty streets, someone gets pushed through a window. Lindsay and Miller go to help the girl but then someone starts shooting at them through the broken window, so they quickly duck behind a car.

The rest of the team starts shooting back, so Lindsay can run over to help the girl.

"Go, go!" Hank yells and Dawson, Ruzek and Atwater go through the front, "Halstead, Miller, around back!"

Sam and Jay run towards the back of the building with their guns in hand. As they make their way around the corner of the building with their guns out in front of them, Atwater, Dawson and Ruzek walk out from the back.

"Guys, on the other side of the fence!" Dawson calls out, which makes Sam and Jay's turn quickly to the fence to see one of the suspects put the other girl in the trunk.

Sam and Jay point their guns towards the unknown suspect, and Jay shouts, "Police! Stop!"

The suspect hops in his car and drives off with Jay and Sam trying to get close on his tail, running as quick as they can behind him but unfortunately couldn't.

Sam scrunches her face at the sudden sharp pain running through her arm.

"Hey, you okay?" Jay asks and Sam takes a deep breath, and says, "Yeah, I'm good"

Jay, Kevin, Adam and Sam run around the corner to the front of the building.

"Sam and I saw the other girl. He was putting her in the trunk. We gotta go" Jay states.

๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŒ™

Sam, Hank, Lindsay, and Jay are at the hospital talking with Hayden -who is accompanied by her parents, obviously- about what she can tell us happened to her and Allison.

"We were tied to the radiator with those plastic things you find on packages. Well, they were getting ready to move us, but they must've seen you guys outside cause they started arguing amongst themselves" Hayden says, sniffling, "Saying, 'someone's out there, we have to do this now, right now', so, um one came over with a knife and cut us loose and as soon as I felt free, I didn't even think twice. It was like my legs just took over and I saw the window and I just crashed through it"

"Hayden..." Hank says, "Did you get a look at these guys?"

"Um, they wore masks. They never took em' off...I thought I was dead and they still have Allison? I shouldn't have left" Hayden says with tears in her eyes, "I shouldn't have left!"

"No. Hayden. You did exactly what you should've done. You got away" Erin says, trying to comfort the scared girl, "That was exactly right. We'll find Allison"

Hank, Jay and Sam turn around to see Allison's dad, Alderman Becks in the hall so the three follow him by the nurses desk.

"Is she going to be alright?" Becks asks.

"Yeah" Hank says.

"And you two saw Allison. She was alive, she was okay?"

Jay and Sam share a look, and he says, "She's alive"

"Which is a good sign" Voight says breaking the silence, "That means who ever has her is trying to make a deal...has anyone contacted you?"

"No" Becks says, "But I've been racking my brain trying to come up with anyone I've dealt with that might be in the consideration for something like this" Becks takes out a folded up piece of paper from the inside pocket of his jacket and hands it to Hank, "I didn't know what to do. So I wrote down everyone"
