chapter five. get my cigarettes , part 2

Sam is in the break room making her coffee, when Erin walks in and immediately notices something different with her friend.

"Sammy..."

"Yeah" Sam replies taking a sip from her cup.

"Oh my god"

Sams face turns into confusion and asks, "What Erin?"

"You had sex last night"

"What? No..." Sam says nervously, taking another sip from her cup.

"Yes you did, I can tell. Who was it?"

Sam shrugs and says, "Just a guy"

"Hmmm.."

Sam then turns on her heels and leaves the break room to go sit at her desk, when Ruzek comes up the few steps and tapes up a picture onto the whiteboard and says, "Guys, this mean anything to you?"

Everyone nods their heads no, except for Sam and Antonio, who look at each other. Sam gets up from her desk and over to the whiteboard and says, "That's the kid from the hospital. That's Dale Hansen's son"

A few minutes later Erin prints out a picture of the son, Nate and tapes it to the whiteboard and says, "Nate Hansen was enrolled at the Union Hill Military academy in Arizona. His TAC officer says he was first in his class, but three days go he disappeared. That was the day, after his mother overdosed"

"I just checked with the schools armory, they're missing a browning gold 10 gauge along with a box of shells" Dawson comments.

"Let's grab this kid up" Voight says as Sam and the team get ready to go.

Sam and the team pull up to the Hansen residence with their guns out and bullet proof vests on, ready to barge in. Sam follows after Jay, whos going to the back of the house.

After the daughter lets everyone in, Hank, Sam, Jay and Antonio are talking with Dale and his daughter in their living room, asking about where Nate went.

"Eye witness described your son to a T" Antonio says holding up the sketch of Nate Hansen.

"I think you got squeezed, you wanted some retribution, so you sent your son to do it for you" Sam says putting her hands inside her vest for warmth.

"No I swear, we just found out what Nate was doing. He ran off maybe a half hour ago" Dale Hansen replies as Adam, Al, Kevin and Erin walk over to the four from clearing the house.

"We're clear guys. No Nate, no weapons" Erin states.

"If you had nothing to do with it, how did Nate know who to target?" Voight questions, while Dale becomes hesitant.

"The three of them, Marcello, Fagan and Valeo, they showed up one night. When I said I'd go to the cops, they threatened my life, my kids. Nate saw them do this, he saw me cower and beg. The look on his face..." Hansen says starting to cry, "It's my fault"

"If you find Nate, please don't hurt him" the daughter says.

"That's up to him" Al comments.

"Is there anyone else who leaned on you, your son might be gunning for?" Voight asks.

"Uh, there was a boss who I paid money to a few times. Enrietto" Mr Hansen says.

"Don Enrietto" Voight says back.

Sam, Al and Hank pull up to Enriettes house and they get out, walking up to it.

"Alright. I know Enrietto, I'll make the first play" Voight says when the sound of gunshots go off. The trio take their guns out as Hank directs Sam to the back of the house.

Sam walks down the side of the house and starts to go into an empty crawl space, when the sound of a shotgun stops her in her tracks and she lifts her arms up, slowly turning around and seeing Nate Hansen pointing a shotgun at her.

"Okay" Sam says slowing down her breathing and dropping her gun into a bush, "Think about what you're doing"

Nate slowly backs up, still pointing the shotgun at Sam, who's arms are still up. Nate pushes the gate open with his foot and takes off.

Sam quickly grabs her gun from the bush and takes off after him. "Offender fleeing south bound. Dark hoodie" the brunette says through her walkie.

Samantha continues to chase after the offender on foot through a scrap yard and shouts, "Police! Stop!" 

Sam still chasing after Nate Hansen, she starts jumping over and on top of old, unused cars and jumping over a fence when a car stops but she doesn't notice who it is, because she's more focused on getting Nate.

"Sam!" Jay yells as him and Erin follow after her.

The chase continues down a long alley and in between a chained up gate, leading to the train tracks, which her, Jay and Erin get down easily.

"Nate, stop!" Sam yells out to Nate who goes straight for a train that comes down the tracks, while her, Jay and Erin get out of the way just in time before it hits them.

Once the train passes, the trio take out their guns and head into the dark, underground tracks. Sam hearing something holds out her hand to stop Jay and Erin, she then sees a ladder and climbs it, which leads to another alley, that leads to an open street, which the three clear but no sign of Nate Hansen.

"We got a ping on Hansen's phone" Ruzek says getting out of the car that just rolled up with him and Antonio in it, "He's right around here somewhere"

"Where?" Erin asks.

"I don't know, this thing says right here"

"Police!" A lady calls out and Sam and the team run over to her.

"What happened?" Sam questions.

"The kid...he had a gun!"

"A white kid in a navy hoodie?" Erin asks the lady who nods her head, while Sam finds his phone on the ground. "Hey, he dumped the phone"

"He took my car!"

"What kind of car?" Lindsay questions.

Once the street is blocked off, Atwater and Ruzek are talking to the woman. Dawson and Lindsay are on the phone, while Miller and Halstead are talking to some patrol officers.

"Guys!" Erin says, "White male with a shotgun just stormed into Chicago Med"

"That's where Hansen's mother is" Dawson says and the team all head to their cars.

Jay and Sam run down the hall from the staircase at Chicago Med, to try and stop Nate from whatever it is, he thinks he's gonna do.

"Wait, wait, wait. Hey, put your guns down. Put them down!" Sam shouts to the other officers.

"Put your guns down!" Jay repeats.

Jay slowly walks closer to the room with his hands out showing Nate he doesn't have his gun in hand, who says, "Stay back!"

Sam stands at the nurses station, pointing her gun towards Nate, while Jay talks to him.

Suddenly after a few minutes, Nate backs down and hands the shotgun to Jay, who then hands it off to Erin.

Sam is at a bar, drinking her sorrows away, when she sees Erin walk in and downs the rest of Sams drink.

"That bad huh?"

"Uh, yeah"

Erin just came from talking with her mom, Bunny. Sam knows all about that relationship and she knows how toxic it can be.

"So I was talking with Jay earlier and he might have mentioned that you're crashing at his until this bounty thing goes away"

"Yeah"

"Wait is Jay the guy you slept with?" Erin questions and Sam looks forward, ignoring her friends question and downing yet another shot that her friend Maddie had poured for her, "Oh my god, he so is"

Sam smiles, while Maddie refills her drink and gets Erin one and says, "Thanks Mads"

"No problem"

"Who's that?" Erin asks.

"Maddie, we went to high school with her. You don't remember her?"

Erin looks at the bartender again and says, "no, not really"

Erins gaze then goes to the front door and sees a guy pull out a gun and she shouts, "Sam!" and pushes her friend to the ground before she gets hit, while the guy is still shooting at Sam, while her and Erin shoot back.

Sam then turns her head to the left and sees her friend, Maddie on the ground holding her neck, while blood starts to pool around her.

"Maddie!" Sam shouts running over to her friend and grabs a towel from the counter and holds it up to her friends neck, "It's gonna be okay Maddie. I promise"

Sam wipes her forehead, forgetting that she had Maddie's blood on her hands. "It's gonna be okay"
