CHAPTER TWENTY - A STAR IS TORN

CONNER, ETHAN, AND I WERE at the lab. I was fixing up my motorcyle while Conner was working on the shield with Hayley. "All right. You ready, Conner?" Hayley asked. "Yep. Ready." Conner replied. "Try the controls." Hayley said. "Okay." Conner said. "Initiating simulation." Hayley said. "Hayley, can we stop, please?" Conner asked as his hair was sticking up. Hayley turned around as she gasped. "Shutting down." Hayley said.

"Hey, Conner, Are you there? It's Kira." I heard Kira's voice say as she popped up on the screen. "Hey, Kira. Unfortunately, he's a little... fried right now. Are you alright?" Hayley asked. "Yeah, I'm fine. I just wanted to tell him that—" Kira started off. "Can we call you back? We're working on the control program for the new assault vehicle." Hayley told her.

"Yeah, sure. What about Ethan and Tanner? Are they around?" Kira asked. "Can you tell her, unless she's getting attacked by something green and scaly, send me an e-mail?" Ethan replied. "I'm gonna have to agree with Ethan. Tell Kira I'm sorry." I added. "Did you hear that?" Hayley asked. "Yeah, I heard." Kira replied.

"And Ethan and Tanner are right. Unless it's an emergency, we should keep the communication frequency clear." Hayley told her. "Okay, I'm sorry. I'll talk to you guys later." Kira said as the call ended. Hayley turned around. "What are you doing over there that's so important, anyway?" Hayley asked Ethan. "Searching the web for my soul mate." Ethan replied. "Dude, if you need any help with girls, you just need to ask." Conner said.

"I'm looking for something a little deeper than you're used to, bro, and, by the way, nice look." Ethan commented as he turned to his computer screen once more. "What? What's he talking about?" Conner asked. "You look fine. Now, let's try that again?" Hayley replied. Conner sighed. "Come on, Conner. Take him down!" Hayley said. "I'm trying!" Conner answered. "No, I'm losing it!" Conner exclaimed as the simulation.

"Oops." Hayley commented. "Great. Game over again." Conner said. "Welcome to my world, dude." Ethan told him. "At least it's only a simulation." Hayley informed. "The hydraulics are doing the opposite of everything I tell them to." Conner said. "Hey, would you guys say that I'm "A," A chiseled workout fiend, "B," A beefy boy toy, "C," a walking toothpick, or "D," just your average everyday dude?" Ethan asked us.

"I thought you were looking for something a little "deeper."" Hayley said. "Yeah, but to get there, I gotta answer these 500 questions. And I'm getting a hand cramp." Ethan stated. "And this is why I prefer guys over girls." I informed as Conner chuckled.

"Here's a chance to take a break. I need you three to pick up a titanium servo mechanism. I e-mailed the address to your organizer, Ethan. It'll be waiting for you." Hayley explained. "Do you think that's gonna fix the problem?" Conner asked. "I'm hoping. Let's just get it home without Mesogog finding out what we're doing." Hayley responded. We were at one of Anton Mercer's supply companies as Conner opened a box. "That's it." Conner said as he closed the box.

"Okay." Ethan said as he signed and handed it to the worker. "Thanks." The worker said as he took the clipboard. "Let's go." Conner said as the three of us took the box down. That is until Tyrannodrones showed up. All three of us looked at each other. "How'd they know?" Conner asked. All three of us got into a fighting stance in front of the box.

"Do these guys ever take a vacation?" Ethan stated. Conner, Ethan, and I began fighting the Tyrannodrones. I saw them getting closer to the box. "No you don't!" I said as I pulled the box away from their grasp and continued fighting them. I opened a truck door and climbed on top of it. I then did a flip and fought some Tyrannodrones some more. I saw that Ethan and Conner were using their powers so I looked around to see if my power would effect them, but they were clear away from me.

I jumped in the air and threw my fist on the ground. Purple energy went throughout the ground as I took out the group of Tyrannodrones that were right by me. The Tyrannodrones then disappeared. "Well, that was fun." Conner commented. "We better get this thing back." Ethan informed. All three of us picked up the box as we headed back to the lab. We were making our way down the stairs when Ethan's phone beeped.

"Do you hear that? What is that?" Conner asked. "That's my phone." Ethan replied. "Dude, you gotta change that ring." I informed as Conner nodded in agreement. "What's the matter with it?" Ethan asked as we set the box down. "Are you serious?" Conner replied. Ethan answered his phone. "Hello?" He said. He looked at his phone. "Hello?" Ethan said again. "Must've hung up." Conner stated while Ethan just shrugged.

We continued dragging the box down until Conner's phone rang next. "You gotta be kidding me." Ethan said. "What? It's better than yours." Conner told him as we set the box down once more. Ethan and I sat down while Conner grabbed his phone. "Oh... hurry up." I groaned. Conner gave up on looking for his phone.

"Oh, man, come on, let's just get this thing inside." Conner said. "Let me get this straight. So we just have to transfer the computer information from our testing to this, install it, and then we're ready?" Conner asked. "The only problem is, it's not accepting the data dump. I just don't understand it." Hayley stated. "Keep trying, Hayley." Dr. Oliver told her. "Hey, what do you guys think of this one? She's single, attractive both inside and out, believes she was "Cleopatra in another life," and loves to paint portraits of snakes." Ethan said.

"That makes sense, historically." Dr. Oliver commented. "Sounds like a perfect match to me." Conner added as I mumbled in agreement. Ethan just rolled his eyes. We were at the lab when Kira walked in. "Great. You're all here." Kira said. "Kira, where have you been?" Ethan asked. "Yeah, you should check in every once in a while." Conner added.

"I tried — never mind. Look, I need your opinion on something, and I need you all to be completely honest. Hayley, can you play this?" Kira asked as she handed Hayley a CD. "Sure." Hayley responded as she took the CD and played it. A dance remix started playing as Kira showed up all gothic-like. All of us stared at the screen. Conner looked at Ethan as Ethan looked at me. "All right, tell me the truth." Kira told us. "Well, um..." Ethan started off. "Its..." Hayley said.

"What? Is someone gonna tell me what they really think?" Kira asked us. "I will." Conner replied. "Conner!" The rest of us said. "No! Let him talk." Kira said. "I just think it's — It's not you." Conner told her. Kira sighed. "I knew it. What was I thinking?" Kira mumbled. The alarm then beeped. "Never thought I'd be glad to hear that sound." I said.

"Either something escaped from the air show, or we're in trouble." Conner said. "Zeltrax. You guys handle it. I'm gonna try to help Hayley get our new weapon powered up." Dr. Oliver informed. "Okay. Ready?" Conner asked as his morpher showed. "Ready!" Ethan, Kira, and I replied. "Dino Thunder, Power Up! HA!" All four of us shouted as we morphed. We all got into our Zords and then created our Megazord. Zeltrax attacked us as we dodged. "Look out!" Conner exclaimed as Zeltrax attacked us again.

"Where's he going?" Kira asked. "Good question." Conner answered. "Guys, this thing is still in the area. We have to intercept it before it comes into the city." Dr. Oliver told us. "There he is!" Dr. Oliver exclaimed. "What should we do, Dr. O.?" Ethan asked. "You'll have to fight him the best you can. Brachio Zord!" Dr. Oliver shouted. That's when Zeltrax attacked the Brachio Zord along with all our Zords in it. Brachio Zord then fired lasers.

"Whoa! Check that out!" Conner exclaimed. "Oh, man!" Dr. Oliver said. "Look out!" Ethan shouted as the lasers hit us. "He's getting away! Oh, no, you don't!" Dr. Oliver said as he jumped up to the ship. The smaller ships continued attacking the Brachio Zord until it fell to the ground. "We gotta do something!" Conner told us. "Like what?" Ethan asked.

"It might be time to go triassic, Conner." Kira stated. "I think you're right!" Conner said. He got out the shield as Ethan and Kira powered it up. "Triassic Ranger, engage!" Conner shouted. Kira and Ethan demorphed. "I'm coming up there!" Conner said as he jumped up to where the snake thing was. Then it ended up attacking him.

"Okay, new plan. Fire!" Conner said as he fired at the snake thing. It attacked him but he dodged it with the shield. Kira, Ethan, and I gasped in shocked. That's when the shield was glowing. "What?" Conner mumbled, confused. The sound of roaring came as a Zord appeared. "Whoa! Hayley did it! Triassic Mega-Rover is on-line!" Conner exclaimed. "And just in time, by the looks of things. Do it just like we practiced, Conner." Hayley said. "You got it!" Conner stated as he headed into the Zord.

"Shield of Triumph... Full power!" Conner said as he placed the shield down. The Zord headed towards the snake thing as it separated and attacked once more. "I think I'm getting the hang of this!" Conner said. He attacked the wheels of the snake thing as it rolled over and exploded. "Outstanding!" Conner commented. "Where's Dr. Oliver?" Conner asked as he ran up to us. "You wanna tell him?" Kira asked Ethan and I.

Conner looked up at the ship. "He's still up there?" Conner asked. We saw the ship exploding as we all gasped in shock. The ship then finally exploded. "No!" All of us shouted. "No! He can't be gone!" Kira exclaimed. "It's alright, Rangers." We heard Dr. Oliver say. We all turned around to see him holding his arm. "I made it out." He continued. We all ran to him. "Dr. O.!" Conner said. "You're okay!" I added.

"But what about Zeltrax?" Ethan asked. "Zeltrax is gone." Dr. Oliver replied. We were walking as Trent came up behind us. "Well, everything is all set. The cameras are all ready, playback's good. All you gotta do is sing." Trent was saying to Kira. "Thank you, guys. From now on, no more letting someone tell me what to be." Kira said. "Especially since who you are is already pretty cool." Conner informed.

"Hey, you forget something?" Conner asked Ethan who was looking around. "I'm supposed to meet my cyber hottie today." Ethan explained. "What, here?" Trent asked. "Yeah, I figured you can't get much better in the first date department than a music video shoot." Ethan replied. "How are you gonna know who she is?" I asked. "She's wearing a pink hat and a matching jacket. Oh there she is now." Ethan said as he ran off.

Ethan walked up to the girl. "Excuse me, are you Dream girl 23?" Ethan asked. "Yes, I am." The girl replied as she turned around. She then gasped. We saw that it was Cassidy. Ethan looked towards us. "I don't believe it." Trent said. We all chuckled.

We all watched Kira performing on stage.

"I'm sure gonna miss this when I go back home..." I think to myself.
