New Yorkโ€™s night sky was a contradiction. Unlike the quiet darkness of the countryside, the city never truly let it restโ€”neon signs, skyscraper windows, and the endless motion of taxis kept it alight. It was beautiful in its own way, but to Yushi, it was just home.

Los Angeles, however, was her city.

And Y/N made sure he never forgot that.

For years, Y/N and Yushi had been rivals in the acting world, constantly competing for the Best Actor and Best Actress awards. They had starred in top Korean dramas, American series, and Hollywood blockbustersโ€”always separate, never together. Their fans fought, and so did they.

So, when they were both cast in Dark Sky, the highly anticipated adaptation of Joanne Davidsonโ€™s bestselling romance novel, the industry exploded with reactions.

Y/N arrived on set already irritated.

Even before she stepped into the main hall, she could hear murmurs. People were gossiping, whispering about how two of the biggest stars in the world would have to act in love.

And then, there he was.

Yushi sat in his chair, his usual team fussing over his hair and makeup. Even in a simple black shirt, he carried himself with the effortless cool that made him famous.

Y/N rolled her eyes and turned her attention to Joanne Davidson, the author of Dark Sky, who stood nearby.

Joanne was warm and kind, exactly as Y/N imagined her to be. They chatted for a bitโ€”Joanne expressing her excitement and Y/N sharing how much she loved the novel.

But thenโ€”

"Y/N."

She turned. Yushi stood before her, his gaze unreadable.

They glared at each other.

"Yushi," she replied coolly.

Neither spoke. The tension was palpable.

"Alright, alright, kids," the director interrupted with a clap. "You two need chemistry, not murder in your eyes."

Y/N forced a smile. Yushi didnโ€™t even try.

This was going to be hell.

After a painfully long first day of shooting, Y/N found herself lost in the massive studio building. The hallways all looked the same, and in her exhaustion, she slipped into a room, hoping to find someone who could give her directions.

She sat down on the couch, stretching out with a sigh.

But thenโ€”

The bathroom door swung open.

Y/N barely had time to react before Yushi stepped out, his dark hair still damp from a shower, wearing only grey sweatpants and a loose t-shirt.

Her scream echoed in the room.

Yushi froze. "What the hellโ€”"

"Youโ€”!!" Y/N scrambled off the couch, eyes wide.

His usual sharp and polished image was gone. No styled hair, no heavy makeup, no designer clothes.

Just Yushi.

A moreโ€ฆ human Yushi.

"What are you doing in my dressing room?" he asked, his voice softer than usual.

Y/N blinked. "Your dressing room?"

Yushi sighed, rubbing his temples. "Are you lost or just invading my space for fun?"

She crossed her arms. "Obviously lost."

He stared at her for a moment, then turned back toward his things. "Well? Are you leaving, or do you plan to stay here all night?"

She scoffed, rolling her eyes before storming out.

But that night, for the first time, she didnโ€™t see Yushi as her enemy.

As the months passed, their interactions changed.

The insults softened, the glares turned into knowing looks. They still bickered, still competedโ€”but there was something different.

Something dangerous.

One night, after a long day of shooting, they sat on the rooftop of their Hollywood studio, watching the stars.

"The city doesnโ€™t sleep here either," Y/N murmured.

Yushi chuckled. "Guess we fit in."

She turned to him. "Why did you start acting?"

He hesitated, then let out a breath. "My little cousinโ€ฆ she got sick. Fell into a coma. She used to ask me to be a hero. So, I did."

Y/N blinked.

"My first role was a superhero movie," he continued with a small smile. "It was for her."

Something in Y/Nโ€™s chest tightened. "Thatโ€™sโ€ฆ kind of incredible."

Yushi raised an eyebrow. "And you?"

She laughed. "I loved zombie movies."

He stared.

"I wanted to be a zombie, but somehow, I ended up as the lead, fighting them instead."

Yushi snorted.

She nudged him. "Donโ€™t laugh!"

"I justโ€”" He shook his head. "You, a zombie? I would pay to see that."

Their laughter echoed into the night.

Enemies? Not anymore. Friends? Maybe.

Something more? โ€ฆNot yet.

Months later, Dark Sky finally premiered.

Y/N and Yushi arrived in styleโ€”her in an elegant gown, him in a sharp suit. Paparazzi screamed their names, cameras flashed, and fans chanted.

They posed together, looking every bit like the romantic leads they had portrayed.

Inside the theater, they sat beside each other, watching as their performances played out on the massive screen.

And thenโ€”

The kiss scene.

Flashback

Y/Nโ€™s heart raced as she stood in front of Yushi on set, her script forgotten.

They had kissed on-screen beforeโ€”she had kissed many actors beforeโ€”but this feltโ€ฆ different.

As the director called "Action," Yushi stepped closer. Their eyes met, breath mingling.

And then, he kissed her.

Soft. Slow.

His hands rested gently against her waist, hers against his chest.

When they pulled away, they were both blushing.

The director laughed. "Cut! Good job, you two."

But even as the cameras stopped rolling, Y/N could still feel the warmth of Yushiโ€™s lips.

End Flashback

In the theater, Y/N glanced at Yushi.

He was looking at the screen, his ears slightly pink.

She bit her lip, holding back a smile.

After the premiere, they attended the after-party. Y/N was deep in conversation with Kim Aera when she glanced over at Yushi.

He was talking to Oh Sion, the famous Korean actor, who clapped his back approvingly.

Their eyes met across the room.

Something unspoken passed between them.

Even after Dark Sky, they kept seeing each other. As friends. Then as best friends.

Almost two years later, after countless late-night talks, rooftop laughs, and moments too perfect to be just friendship, Yushi finally asked.

They were in New York, his home, standing beneath the city lights.

"Y/N," he said, voice unusually soft. "I donโ€™t want to just act anymore."

She tilted her head. "What do you mean?"

"I donโ€™t want to just pretend to love you," he admitted. "I want the real thing."

Y/Nโ€™s breath hitched.

"Will you be mine?"

For the first time, it wasnโ€™t for the cameras.

So this time, when he kissed herโ€”soft, real, everythingโ€”it wasnโ€™t for a movie.

It was just for them.

And it was perfect.
