The smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the cozy café as Y/N stepped through the doors. It had become her favorite study spot over the past few weeks-not just for the perfect lattes, but for the quiet atmosphere that allowed her to focus on her studies.
But lately, her visits had taken on a different tone.
"Sion," she murmured under her breath as her eyes flicked toward the counter.
He stood there, effortlessly charming as he worked the espresso machine, his soft brown hair falling into his eyes. Sion was the kind of barista who made every customer feel special, but there was something about the way he smiled at Y/N that made her heart skip a beat.
The first time Y/N had met Sion, she had been juggling a precarious stack of books and a laptop. She had barely made it to the counter when he noticed her struggle.
"Let me help," he said, stepping around to steady the books before they toppled.
"Thanks," she had said, cheeks flushed.
"No problem. Studying, huh?"
"Yeah, finals are killing me."
Sion smiled, his dimples deepening. "Well, let me make you the best coffee of your life. Maybe it'll help."
From that moment, Y/N found herself returning to the café more often than she cared to admit.
Despite their growing familiarity, Y/N wasn't entirely sure where she stood with Sion. He was friendly, sure, but he was friendly with everyone. And with her best friend Jaehee constantly teasing her about her "coffee crush," Y/N didn't dare get her hopes up.
One afternoon, as she sat typing furiously on her laptop, Sion appeared at her table with a small plate of cookies.
"On the house," he said, setting them down with a wink.
Y/N blinked up at him. "Why?"
"You've been staring at your screen for three hours. I figured you could use a break."
"Thanks," she said, her voice softer than she intended.
Riku and Yushi, two of Sion's coworkers, watched the interaction from behind the counter.
"He's got it bad," Yushi muttered.
Riku grinned. "And he doesn't even know it."
It was by chance that Y/N saw Sion outside of the café. She had been dragged to a mutual friend's party by Jaehee, who insisted she needed a break from her studies.
As she stepped into the dimly lit apartment, she spotted a familiar figure across the room. Sion.
He was leaning against the wall, laughing at something Riku had said. For a moment, Y/N considered slipping away unnoticed, but then his eyes met hers.
"Y/N?" he called out, surprise and delight lighting up his face.
She hesitated, but Jaehee gave her a gentle nudge. "Go talk to him."
As she approached, Sion straightened. "I didn't expect to see you here."
"Me neither," she admitted. "This isn't really my scene."
"Mine either," he said with a chuckle. "But Riku and Yushi dragged me along."
Their conversation flowed easily, and Y/N found herself laughing more than she had in weeks. When a slightly tipsy stranger tried to interrupt their conversation, Sion subtly stepped closer, his protective presence warding them off.
"You okay?" he asked, his voice low.
"Yeah," Y/N said, her heart fluttering at his concern.
After the party, things between Sion and Y/N began to change. He started saving her favorite seat at the café and slipping little notes onto her coffee cup.
One day, as she was packing up her things, he stopped her.
"Hey, do you want to grab dinner sometime?" he asked, his usual confidence tinged with nervousness.
Y/N stared at him, caught off guard. "Like... as a date?"
Sion rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah. If you want it to be."
A slow smile spread across her face. "I'd like that."
Their first few dates were perfect, but their budding relationship wasn't without its challenges. One evening, as Y/N sat waiting for Sion to finish his shift, Jaehee joined her at the café.
They were laughing over an old joke when Sion walked out from the back. His smile faltered for a fraction of a second when he saw Jaehee leaning toward Y/N, but he quickly masked it.
"Hey," he said, sliding into the seat beside her.
"Hi," Y/N said brightly. "This is Jaehee, my best friend."
Jaehee extended a hand. "Nice to finally meet you. Y/N talks about you all the time."
Sion relaxed, though he shot Jaehee a pointed look. "Good to know."
Later that night, as they walked home, Y/N couldn't help but tease him. "Were you jealous?"
"No," Sion said quickly, then added, "Maybe a little."
Y/N laughed, slipping her hand into his. "You have nothing to worry about."
A few weeks later, Sion surprised Y/N with a bouquet of roses.
"For you," he said, holding them out.
"They're beautiful," she said, touched. "What's the occasion?"
"No occasion," he said with a shrug. "I just wanted to remind you how special you are."
Y/N felt her heart swell as she hugged him tightly.
As they sat together, sharing stories about their lives and dreams, Y/N realized something. What had started as a simple crush had grown into something far more meaningful.
With Sion by her side, she felt like she could take on the world.
