- BACK TO SCHOOL
❝ go back to being a teenager ❞

Alexa POV

AT school, I was standing with Lydia and Allison at our lockers.

"Freshmen. Tons and tons of fresh men." Lydia said

"You mean fresh boys. Lydia, they're fourteen." I said

"Eh, some are more mature than others." Lydia said

"You know, it's okay to be single. Focus on yourself for a little while, work on becoming a better person." Allison said

Lydia chuckled, leaning against her locker.

"Allison, I love you. So if you need to do that thing where we talk about me and pretend like we're not actually talking about you, it's totally fine. But I don't want a boyfriend. I want a distraction." Lydia said

Lydia paused when something caught her eye. Lydia, Allison, and I leaned forward to check out the two boys walking down the hall, helmets in hand. One of the boys was super hot and I smirked at him when he looked at me.

"Brothers?" Allison wondered

Lydia smiled excitedly.

"Twins." Lydia said

The warning bell rang, signaling we had to get to class.

"Come on Lydia. I'm sure you'll see those two later." I said

Lydia sighed and followed Allison and me to English. Lydia sat next to Stiles, while I sat on the other side of him. Allison can't find a seat and I see the only available seat is in front of Scott.

I hear my phone chime go off signaling that I got a text, I pull out my iPhone to check the text.

"'The offing was barred by a black bank of clouds and the tranquil waterway, leading to the uttermost ends of the earth flowed somber an overcast sky, seemed to lead into the heart of an immense darkness.' This is the last line to the first book we are going to read. It is also the last text you will receive in this class. Phones off, everyone." Our new English teacher said

I turn my phone off and put it in my bag and grab my books when the principal walked in and said something to the teacher, Miss Blake.

"Scott McCall? Alexa Rossi?" Miss Blake called

I looked at Scott confused, then put my stuff in my bag and left the classroom. Scott followed, and apparently Miss Blake as well.

"Mr. McCall? Uh, I'm sure it's an emergency if your mother needs you to leave school, but I'm gonna give you a warning in the nicest possible way." Miss Blake started

"Hey Scott, I'll meet you in the parking lot." I said

I headed out to the parking lot to wait for Scott, I didn't have a ride since I didn't drive myself to school because Derek insisted on driving me because of the Alpha pack.

Later, at the hospital, Scott and I were walking next to Mrs. McCall.

"Why didn't you tell me before?" Scott asked

"Honestly, I was hoping I didn't have to." Mrs. McCall said

"What do you mean?" Scott asked

"Everything that you've been doing... the extra reading, the summer school, saving up for the bike, even though it scares me half to death... honey, I just didn't wanna disrupt a good rhythm." Mrs. McCall said

Scott stopped in front of her.

"It's not gonna stop. I-I'm gonna be better this year. A better student, a better son, a better friend, a better everything. I promise." Scott said

"Okay. He's in room 215 if he isn't already in surgery." Mrs. McCall said

"Thank you." Scott said

Scott pressed a quick kiss to his mom's cheek and we head to the elevator. I hit the floor button and the doors start to close but someone's walking stick stops it. Scott hit the button to open the door and the blind man walked in.

"Would you hit the button for the second floor, please?" The blind man asked

"Yeah." I said

I pushed the button for the second floor, again.

"Thank you." The blind man said

The elevator stopped, signaling that we made it to the second floor. Scott and I prepared to get out, when the man stopped us.

"You wouldn't mind helping me out for a second, would you?" The blind man asked

The blind man placed his hand on Scott's shoulder.

"Um... sure." Scott said

Scott helped the blind man while I walked briskly ahead of them. After we dropped the blind man off, we started looking for Isaac. We walked down the halls and check Isaac's supposed room, he wasn't there.

We walked back to the elevator and spotted a big man in scrubs pushing Isaac, in a wheelchair, into an elevator. He gave us a dark look as he pressed a button with a clawed finger, Scott and I each let out a growl as claws extend from our fingers. Scott's eyes flashed yellow, while mine flashed purple.

We ran towards the elevator, fully shifted, barely making it in and falling to the floor. The man didn't hesitate to slam Scott into the wall and I go to attack him, but he threw me up, slamming me against the lights.

The man's hand closed around Scott's throat, Scott clawing at the hand as he was lifted into the air.

"Don't you realize what you're dealing with? I'm an Alpha." The big man said

The man's eyes flashed red. A pair of claws made their way into the big man's back and I saw they belonged to Derek.

"So am I." Derek said

Derek threw the big man out of the elevator and turned to me and Scott.

"Aren't you two supposed to be in school?" Derek asked

Later, Derek walked into the old Hale house, carrying Isaac, and Scott and I followed after him. Derek laid Isaac on a table and I grabbed a rag and wet it as Derek knelt down, sorting through branches.

"You don't still live here, do you?" Scott asked

He glanced around the burned house.

"No. The county took it over, but there's something here that I need. It'll help heal a wound from an Alpha." Derek said

"Yeah, but it did heal." Scott said

Scott's eyebrows furrowed and I dabbed the washcloth on Isaac's forehead.

"Not on the inside." I said

Derek grabbed what he was looking for.

"Hey, are you gonna tell me who that was back there? That Alpha." Scott said

Derek and I shared a look.

"A rival pack. It's my problem. I know you wanna help, and you did. I owe you one. Now go home. Go back to being a teenager." Derek said

Derek walked over to me and Isaac and began sorting through the herb. Scott began to leave but at the last second turned around, grabbing his arm.

"Uh, hey, Derek. If you wanna repay back that favor now... There is something you can do for me." Scott said

Derek turned around and we looked at him.

Later, Derek and Scott are sitting across from each other and Derek's eyes flashed red as he looked at Scott's arm. Stiles ended up showing up, though I have no idea why. Aaron was still at school.

"Yeah, I see it. It's two bands, right?" Derek said

Scott nodded.

"What does it mean?" I asked

"I don't know. It's just something I traced with my fingers." Scott said

He drew two circles, one inside and one outside the other.

"Why is this so important to you?" Derek asked

"Do you know what the word 'tattoo' means?" Scott asked

"To mark something." Stiles said

He looked proud of himself and smiled like an idiot.

"Well, that's in Tahitian. In Samoan, it means 'open wound'. I knew I wanted to get a tattoo when I turned 18. I always wanted one. I just decided to get it now, to make it kind of a reward." Scott said

"For what?" I asked

"For not calling or texting Allison all summer. Even when I really wanted to, even when it was so hard not to sometimes. I was trying to give her the space she wants. Goin' four months later, it still hurts. It still feels like a, uh..." Scott started

"...like an open wound." Stiles finished

"Yeah." Scott agreed

Derek turned around and grabbed the blowtorch.

"The pain's gonna be worse than anything you've ever felt." Derek said

"Yeah I had one done this summer, pain's a bitch. Wanna see it?" I asked

Stiles nodded eagerly. I shrugged my leather jacket off and took my shirt off, leaving me in just my black bra. Stiles and Scott's eyes were as wide as saucers and I smirked at them. I lifted my hair to show them my crescent moon tattoo on my neck. I turned around and looked at Derek, as he gave me a look and I rolled my eyes, putting my shirt back on and going to stand next to him.

"Ah, that's great." Stiles said

"Do it." Scott said

Derek turned on the blowtorch.

"Oh, wow. That's a... that's a lot for me. So I'm gonna take that as my cue. I'm just gonna wait outside." Stiles said

He started walking away.

"Nope." Derek said

Derek grabbed Stiles' arm and pulled him back.

"You can help hold him down." Derek said

"Why me? Why can't Alex do it?" Stiles asked

"I'm taking care of Isaac, duh." I said

I moved over to the table with Isaac and grabbed the washcloth. Derek put the blowtorch on Scott's arm and the latter started groaning in pain.

"Oh, my God." Stiles said

Scott started moving and screaming, his eyes flashed yellow.

"Hold him." Derek ordered

Scott continued to scream and started shifting, eventually passed out from the pain.

A few minutes later, Scott woke up with a gasp for air. I turned away from Derek and saw Scott looking at his arm.

"Aah! Aah! It worked." Scott said

He observed the tattoo and put his shirt back on.

"Well, it looks pretty damn permanent now." Stiles said

Scott rubbed his bicep, the tattoo fully visible now, and Stiles and Scott started walking out the door.

"Yeah. I kind of needed something permanent. Everything that's happened to us... everything just changes so fast. Everything's so, uh... Ephemeral." Scott said

"Studying for the PSATs?" Stiles asked

"Yep." Scott said

"Nice." Stiles said

Scott opened the door, pausing when he saw the front was red unlike the inside.

"You painted the door. Why'd you paint the door?" Scott asked

"It's looks good, right? I think I did a pretty good job." I said

"Go home, Scott." Derek said

"And why only one side?" Scott asked

"Haven't you heard that's in style." I said

I tried getting Scott off the subject, but he wouldn't drop it. He flicked his claws out, dragging one down the paint.

"Scott." Derek warned

Derek got up and started walking towards Scott as Scott started clawing at the paint, grunting as he uncovered the Alpha pack symbol.

"The birds at school and the deer last night... just like the night I got trampled by the deer when I got bit by the Alpha. How many are there?" Scott asked

Derek sighed, crossing his arms.

"A pack of 'em. An Alpha pack." Derek replied

Stiles furrowed his eyebrows, looking between Derek, Scott, and me.

"All of them? How does that even work?" Stiles asked

"I hear there's some kind of a leader. He's called Deucalion. We know they have Boyd and Erica." Derek said

"Peter, Isaac, Derek, Aaron, and I have been looking for him for the last four months." I said

"Let's say you find them. How do you deal with an Alpha pack?" Scott asked

"With all the help I can get." Derek replied

Scott and Stiles shared a look. Isaac sat up, his eyes wide and frantic.

"Where is she? Where's the girl?" Isaac asked

We all looked at him in confusion.

"What girl?" I asked
