Hibino Kafka's execution
is put on-hold.

Setting your phone down on the bed at Ariake Maritime Base, you pondered the news of Kafka's postponed execution. It had been four days since leaving Tachikawa Base, called in just as Kafka fell under Chief Shinomiya's custody.

Remembering how the fight between Chief Shinomiya and Kafka earlier occured, you saw how your father reacted when Narumi joked around that you're worried for him. There was something in his eyes that you can't point out.

It's been at least four days since you left the Tachikawa Base, you were called at the same time that Kafka will be in custody under of Chief Shinomiya. You haven't talked to Ashiro about it, the last conversation you had with her was probably when she called you in her office. Talking about your compatibility test, and telling for you to be careful.

As you brushed, your phone lit up with Hoshina's read receipt, followed by a fleeting typing indicator that vanished. Frowning, you set it aside, only for it to ring immediately with his name flashing on the screen. A rush of excitement and anticipation fluttered inside you as you cleared your throat and answered.

But, your phone rang and the screen flashes his name on it. Something inside of you feel like burning, you could feel how giddy you've became and somehow excited to hear his voice once again, even if it's on the phone.

Clearing your throat before you pick up your phone, letting out a sigh before answering it. You were quiet for a moment, waiting for him to say something on the other end of the line. Quietly tapping the brush on your exposed thigh as you turned your head to look out of the window.

"[Name]?" Then, you heard his voice. You smiled upon hearing it. "Why'd you call at this hour?" Shifting in your sit as you looked outside, staring at the bright full moon that is accompanied by millions stars twinkling around it. "You're the one who texted me." You could hear him let out a chuckle, a faint rustling of paper was heard on the other end.

He's probably at his office.

"Eh? Anyway, Kafka is currently healing from his fight with the Chief." He just let out a hum, he seems tired though. "Oh, by the way, how's your family reunion?" Rolling your eyes at the tone he used. Remembering how you met your father earlier this morning, talking about him rescheduling the test and suddenly Kikoru arrived.

"It's fine," you just mumbled. "You seem kinda down, ya missed me?" He lets out a laugh at his last words. You could hear him shuffling on the other end, and a sigh left out his lips afrer laughing for a moment.

You stayed quiet, feeling how your cheeks heat up at his question. The two of you would often joked with each other, he would even flirt with you from time and time and you don't know why you're affected right now.

"Hm, yeah," muttering to yourself but you know he heard it, hearing how his breath hitch from his side. "I missed you." Rolling down on your bed, laying on your back as you look at the ceiling, phone in your ear, hearing him breathing.

"I missed everyone from the Third Unit." You added on after a few seconds of silent from the both of you. Hoshina lets out a hum at that, you could see him swirling in his swivel chair, with his legs on top of his desk as he had his phone in his hand.

"Ashiro also misses you." He spoke after a short period of quietness. "Well, do you?" You playfully ask, your arm drape over your stomach as you eyed that shadow that is casted on your ceiling. Thoughts going haywire after what he said.

"Of course, I miss you."

A smile spread across your face at his words, picturing him on the other end, his playful smile with his fangs just peeking out.

The connection between you felt palpable, even through the distance and the late hour. In that moment, surrounded by the quiet of your room and the comfort of his voice, you couldn't deny the warmth that blossomed within you.

Both of you continue talking for hours, catching up with one another. Hoshina updated you that the base is still getting cleaned by the cleaning company, and it would take a week for it. While the rebuilding of the base would be taking at least a few months before everyone could go back in there.

For the meantime, the other recruits and soldiers are transferred to different bases in Japan. Hoshina also told you that Kikoru will be placed under the care of the First Division Unit. Which the both of you laugh about, you're sure that Kikoru will be expecting something to learn from Narumi Gen. She's not that well acquainted with him yet, not knowing how his 'unique' personality works.

"Oh yeah, how's your compatibility test?" Hoshina then brought the topic why you're supposed to be in the First Division Unit's base. "Oh, it was supposed to be today, but I asked Chief Shinomiya to reschedule it." You mumbled, looking at the clock on your drawer and saw that it will be midnight in a few minutes.

The two of you sure talked a lot, huh.

"I think I'll test the suit a day after tomorrow, then take the surgery after." A yawn escaped your lips which you muffled it by covering your mouth. "At the same day? Take some rest, [Name]." There's concern lace in his voice when he said that.

"Hoshina, I can't possibly take some rest... we have to use as much time right now because Kaiju keeps spawning each single day." You stated, there are Kaiju that are seen every other day, they just keep appearing out of thin air.

"I know but... take care of yourself, hm?" You nodded at his words and humming in agreement. "And take care of yourself in return." Closing your eyes as you said those. Hoshina notices how your voice drift off and he sense that you might fall asleep any moment now.

He just stayed silent, and you're listening to his steady breathing. Today was such a long day, getting to witness your father fight and him almost getting killed by a rampaging Kaiju. That wasn't on your bucket list. But, Narumi might be correct, that you were worried about him.

Seeing him get beaten up in front of you, how blood trickled down his head and how he was smashed on the wall and on the floor, it's unsettling for you. You are still hus daughter, despite him not being a much father figure to you ever since.

Hoshina noticed your quietness and the soft snores that soon followed. He chuckled softly, sighing as he turned his chair to face the glass window behind him, gazing at the city lights and the stars shining next to the full moon.

A gentle smile formed on his lips as he stared at your contact name saved in his phone. He put the phone back to his ear and whispered,

"Sleep well, [Name]."

INTOXICATED! just a filler chapter. and also a short interaction with Hoshina since we might not see him more often... huhuhu

Also, I  was thinking of his contact name to her is.. Polaris or something related to the stars, since I written that the two of them would see each other on the rooftop and would look up in the stars together.
