Chapter 45

The dense rainforest of Sumeru stretched endlessly around them, the scent of damp earth and blooming flora filling the air. Fireflies flickered between the towering trees, casting faint golden glows against the deep green shadows. The battle with Clorinde was over, but Furina and Yoshika had no time to waste. They hadn't come to Sumeru for duels-they had come to finish an unfinished conversation.

Furina dusted off her coat with an exaggerated sigh. "Ugh, if one more person decides to test our strength instead of simply asking what we're doing here, I swear-"

"Then let's not waste time," Yoshika interrupted, her voice calm as always. "We came here to speak with Wanderer."

Furina huffed but nodded. "Yes, yes, of course! The ever-elusive, ever-mysterious Wanderer. Former Harbinger, former puppet of the Fatui, former everything, really. He has more past identities than I have elegant outfits!"

Yoshika gave her a look, unimpressed. "Are you done?"

Furina pouted slightly. "For now."

The two of them made their way through the forest, heading toward Sumeru City, where they had last heard of Wanderer's whereabouts. Their previous encounter with him had been cut short-too many interruptions, too many unspoken words. But this time, Furina was determined to get answers.

Yoshika walked slightly ahead, her sharp gaze scanning their surroundings. She had always been careful, but Furina could tell there was something deeper on her mind.

"...You've been quiet," Furina finally said, breaking the silence between them. "Even for you."

Yoshika didn't stop walking, but after a few moments, she spoke. "I don't trust him."

Furina raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And here I thought you didn't trust anyone."

Yoshika didn't react to the tease. "He has too many connections to the Fatui. Too much history with Celestia. We don't know where his true loyalty lies."

Furina tilted her head. "And yet, he's the only one who might have the information we need."

Yoshika exhaled softly. She didn't like relying on others, especially not someone like Wanderer. But Furina was right-they had to finish what they started.

As they reached the outskirts of the city, the vibrant glow of Sumeru's lanterns illuminated the streets ahead. Somewhere within those winding pathways, Wanderer was waiting.

Furina smirked. "Shall we?"

Yoshika nodded. "Let's finish this."

With that, they stepped forward, ready to face whatever truths Wanderer had to offer.
