CHAPTER TWELVE - GHOST OF A CHANCE, PART 1

𝓣𝙰𝙽𝙽𝙴𝚁

WE RUSHED TO A SCENE where a monster was terrorizing the city. "Rangers, just in time." Mog said. "We're not afraid of you." Theo informed. "Come on, guys, let's hop to it!" Lily exclaimed. We began fighting Mog.

"Maybe this will scare you." Mog said. Mog suddenly grew big as we called on our Zords and then changed into our Megazord. "Come on, show me what you've got!" Mog said. "Spirit of the Elephant, unite!" We shouted. Mog laughed.

"I'm not afraid of that." Mog said. "Jungle Mace, Spin attack!" We yelled. We broke Mog's force field that he put around himself. "Okay, enough of this." Mog said as he flew into the air. We combined with the Bat Zord as we caught up to him.

"Spirit of the Shark, combine!" We shouted. We finally destroyed Mog. We all entered JKP. Theo laughed. "We rule. We are not afraid of anything." He said. "You said it, Theo." Lily agreed. "They set 'em up, we knock 'em down." Casey added. I was wearing a green flannel. "Um, knock what down?" Fran asked. "Where have you been? Bowling?" Fran asked again.

"Uh..." Lily said. "Yes. Bowling, yeah." We all said. "Casey bowled a turkey, so we were excited." Theo said. "Actually, it was a frog." Casey corrected. Theo, Lily and I laughed.

"I would appreciate it if someone would inform me before you go on break." Fran said. RJ suddenly walked in. "Casey, Lily, Theo, Tanner, Loft." RJ ordered. "We're going on break." We all said to Fran. "Did you see that frog-whipping, RJ?" Casey asked.

"He didn't stand a chance against us." Theo added. "Yeah, when do we get our master tattoos?" Lily asked. "Masters? Not quite." RJ replied as he chuckled. "What do you mean? We're fearless fighting machines. We're unbeatable." Casey said.

"Confidence is good, but overconfidence is dangerous. It's time to go back to basics." RJ said. "Basics?!" We all yelled. "But we've come so far." Theo complained. "I want you to practice your stances." RJ told us. We all looked at each other. "Uh, now would be an appropriate time." RJ continued as the four of us just walked away. We were practicing until the buzzer went off.

"Face me, Power Rangers, if you dare." Dai Shi said. "He wants a fight, we'll give him one." Casey said. "There's something different about Jarrod. The sensors are off the charts." RJ stated.

"Don't worry, RJ. We're not afraid of him." Casey informed. "We're not afraid of anything." Theo added. "Let's do it!" Lily said. We all grabbed vines as we headed out. We rushed to where Dai Shi was. "Jarrod!" Casey shouted.

"I didn't think you were gonna show." Dai Shi said. "You and your buddies are going down." Casey said. "I highly doubt that." Dai Shi told him. He took off his coat as he morphed into his armor.

The four of us got into a fighting stance. Dai Shi then attacked us as we fell to the ground. "On your feet, Rangers." Dai Shi ordered. We got up as we got out our sunglasses. "Jungle Beast, Spirit Unleashed!" We all yelled. We morphed as we began roll call. Casey went first.

"With the Strength of a Tiger — Red Ranger!"

"With the Speed of a Cheetah — Yellow Ranger!"

"With the Stealth of a Jaguar — Blue Ranger!"

"With the Fury of a Dragon — Green Ranger!"

"We summon the animal spirits from within. Power Rangers Jungle Fury!" We all yelled. I got ahead of pass the guards while Casey, Theo, and Lily were stuck behind fighting them. I turned back around. "Casey, Theo, Lily?!" I shouted. "The end is near, Green Ranger." Dai Shi said.

"We'll see about that. Jungle Katana!" I yelled as I got out my weapon. I fired my attack at him but Dai Shi blocked it. I tried attacking him but he kept dodging. "Your dragon is no match for my lion. You are weak and will be destroyed." Dai Shi informed. "You have some major ego issues. Reminds me of someone I used to know." I stated, remembering Koragg as I kicked Dai Shi back.

"Bring out the Dragon!" I shouted as a green dragon appeared and headed towards Dai Shi but he went right through it. I ended up being on the ground. "Tanner!" Theo shouted.

He broke away from one of the guards. "Theo, always up for a challenge." Dai Shi said. "Jungle Fans!" Theo said as he got out his weapons. He tried attacking Dai Shi but ended up on the ground.

"Theo!" I shouted. I began fighting one of the guards. Theo then got attacked again. Casey ended up breaking free of the guard and rushed up to Dai Shi. Casey ended up missing as he fell to the ground. "What's next?" Dai Shi asked. The four of us regrouped. "Claw Cannon!" We all shouted. We fired at Dai Shi but he ended up blocking it.

"As I said, I am more powerful now than you can possibly imagine. Spirit of the Mighty Lion!" Dai Shi shouted as his animal spirit attacked us. We ended up being demorphed as we fell to the ground. Dai Shi also demorphed. "Say hi to Master Mao." Dai Shi told us as he prepared for an attack. I closed my eyes.

"I'm so sorry, Xander... Everyone..." I think to myself as an image of my boyfriend and the rest of the Mystic Rangers appeared in my mind. That's when RJ suddenly showed up as he stopped Dai Shi from launching his attack. "RJ?" All four of us said. "So, the Wolf Master returns." Dai Shi said. "Why fight warriors when you can fight... a master?" RJ asked.

"Why indeed? But your skills are no match for my power, and you know it. Surrender yourself and I'll spare your students." Dai Shi said. "RJ, don't!" Lily said. "No!" Casey added. RJ looked at us.

"You know what to do." He whispered. RJ put his arms down as Dai Shi chuckled. "Seize him." Dai Shi ordered. The guards grabbed RJ as we all got up and watched him leave. The four of us entered JKP.

"Wait. Don't say a word. Let me guess. "Sorry, Fran. We were on break during the lunch rush, and now we have to go up to the Loft while you finish cleaning up," hmm?" Fran said. "Yeah, that's about right." Casey replied. "Sorry, Fran. We'll make it up to you." Lily promised.

"Well, hey, it's okay. Don't sweat it." Fran said. The four of us said nothing as we left to go up to the Loft. "Where's RJ?" Fran asked. We all stopped and looked at her. "I haven't seen him all afternoon." Fran continued. We didn't answer her as we headed upstairs to the Loft. We were all sitting down. "Guess we're not masters after all." Theo stated.

"We have to save RJ — whatever it takes." Lily informed. "Yeah, but without a master, how can we learn to defeat Jarrod? He's like superevil now." Theo said. "What do you think RJ meant when he said "you know what to do"?" Lily asked.

"He meant do exactly what he told us to do. We go back to basics — All the way back to the beginning." Casey replied. "To the forbidden room." Lily said. "Hey, I'm all for it. But if I remember correctly, the room's empty. I don't see how that can help us." Theo stated. "Yeah, well, we have to try. It may be our only hope." Casey said.

We arrived at the temple as I followed Casey, Theo, and Lily into the forbidden room. Lily gasped as she saw a spider. "Spiders." Lily said. "Well, we're here." Theo said. "Look around. There must be something that can help." Casey stated.

"Guys, check this out!" Lily exclaimed as we saw a mule. "That must be Master Phant in his animal form." Lily continued. "And there's Master Swoop." Theo said. "And Master Finn. But who are these guys?" Casey asked. "It's a gorilla, an antelope, and there's a penguin." Lily said. "Those are the other Pai Zhuq masters." Master Mao said.

"Master Mao!" Lily exclaimed as Master Mao appeared. Casey, Theo, and Lily bowed. Once again, I awkwardly bowed as well. "How can we find these other masters? RJ's been captured, and we need more training." Theo informed.

"Yes, I know. But these masters cannot be found. They were destroyed in a great battle. They reside in the spirit world now." Master Mao explained. "Can you take us there? We have to save RJ." Casey said.

"No one has ever returned from that realm. It's a place unlike anything you've ever seen." Master Mao stated. "Master, please. We can do this. We'll find a way back." Casey said. "It's too risky. I'm sorry. The answer's no." Master Mao said.

"Please, you have to take us." Lily begged. "It's our only hope." Theo said. "Master, we can do this. You trained us, and RJ picked up where you left off. We won't let you down. Please! We're not afraid." Casey added. "Once I open the door, you will be." Master Mao informed. That's when a portal opened up. "There's no turning back now." Lily informed.

The four of us stepped into the portal as we fell on something soft. "Not exactly a vacation resort." Theo commented. "Definitely not taking Xander here, that's for sure." I muttered.

"It's a netherworld of ghostly spirits. What do you expect — Palm trees and hula girls?" I asked Theo a little louder. "Guys, let's get serious here. RJ's counting on us." Casey said. We gasped as we saw three masters appearing. They began fighting us. All of us groaned.

"You should not have come here."
