"REMUS HURRY UP! WE'RE GONNA BE LATE!" I yelled to my twin. Remus was usually the one who was well prepared, but now he's going to make me late.

For my first ever day at Hogwarts.

"Okay! Relax Y/N!" I watched Remus run down the stairs where I've been waiting, somewhat impatiently.

He lugged his trunk along with him, carrying his owl, Whisper, and mine, Freckles.

"You nearly forgot Freckles. What would you do without me?" I rolled my eyes at him and grabbed Freckle's cage, muttering, "thanks," under my breath. As much as Remus got on my nerves sometimes, he's my best friend. Although we don't look too alike.

I have short red hair that goes to my shoulders, which always looks slightly puffy if I brush it. My skin is so pale, and I have freckles that cover my face. That's my nickname, Freckles. I hate it. Remus came up with it a while ago.

I lost a bet a few years ago to him, which meant he would get to pick my owl's name. Of course, he chose the name Freckles.

The Hogwarts Express is beautiful. Perhaps that's because it's taking me to the place that will potentially change my life, or maybe because it's just a gorgeous red colour, or because it just looks pretty damn cool.

I look over to Remus to hear his thoughts on the magnificent scarlet train, and he looks like he's in love. His jaw is practically on the floor.

"Well?" I say smugly. I watched his face as he snapped out of whatever trance he was just in.

"Huh?"

"Should we hop on? If we wait too much longer it'll leave without us. I think all the compartments will be full by now since someone made us late."

"Oh shush, if I hadn't taken my time double checking my trunk, you would have left without an owl. And I was not going to let you borrow Whisper."

I made a slight 'hmph' noise as I made my way to the train with Remus.

As we walk along the carriage, we scanned our eyes for a free compartment or one with students our age.

Eventually, near the back of the train, we find one with a few boys in it who look like first years. They have the same dazed expression on their faces and they all look like our age.

"You're asking," Remus whispered to me as I begin to open the door.

"What! No, I'm not, you are." I whispered back.

"Nope."

Remus stops walking in, so it's just me. Great, now I have to ask.

I've never been an introverted person, I'm pretty extroverted in fact. Our parents always joked that we were opposites. However, I did not want to ask them. It's like asking your parents for something. You don't have to be shy to not want to. And believe me, I did not want to ask them! What if they said no? What if they weren't even first years and I was super weird.

Deep breath.

"Hey, could we sit in here? There are no more free compartments."

"Sure thing. Have a seat." A boy with messy black hair and hazel eyes says.

I sat next to him and Remus sat opposite to me.

"My names James Potter, this is Peter Pettigrew," he gestured to a small boy to his right with mousy brown hair

"Sirius Black," he gestured again to a different boy, this one with black hair.

"My name's Y/N Lupin, and this is my twin brother, Remus."

Remus gave them a smile. "Hi, a pleasure to meet you all."

"So, what house do you all want to be sorted into?" Sirius, as I believe it was, said, trying to make some small talk.

"Gryffindor." James and Sirius said in unison.

"What about you Peter?" I asked the smaller boy.

"I don't know, I haven't really thought about it that much. Perhaps Hufflepuff? I'd like to be in Gryffindor, but I don't think I could ever be brave enough for that." He murmured.

"What about you?" James asked me curiously, a smile playing at his lips.

"I don't know either, like Peter said, I'd like to be in Gryffindor too, but I'd be honored to be a Puff. I do think Remus might be in Ravenclaw, he's always been the smart one. I don't want to be in Slytherin. I don't want to be housist, but I'm just not a competitive person, and everyone there is."

"Seems like you've certainly thought about it." Sirius chuckled.

"S'pose I have."

"Remus? Which House?" Sirius asked him.

"Gryffindor," Remus said, seeming certain.

I could tell he was pretending he had made up his mind. We're pretty lucky to be as close as we are, and we talk often. Just last night he was telling me how stressed he was about the House Ceremony because he didn't know what house he wanted to be in and he heard from someone that the way you get picked for your house is they ask you which you want to be in and then do a test from there. He was so terrified that he would be kicked from Hogwarts because they wouldn't give him a test as he hadn't decided.

I knew he wanted to be in either Ravenclaw or Gryffindor but couldn't decide between those two. Perhaps he had actually decided, though I doubt it, knowing Remus, he won't have made up his mind until a couple of seconds before.

"Do you guys know how we'll get sorted into our houses?" Peter asks, taking the words right out of my mouth.

"Maybe there's a quiz? Like you answer questions and it tells you?" I guess.

"Or maybe you fight a dragon and however you do it decides what house!" Sirius exclaims.

"Yeah! That makes sense." James agrees.

"Uhm no it doesn't! Hogwarts would never make us fight a dragon! Right?"

"Mhm, you definitely sound like a Hufflepuff N/N," James says.

I shove him lightly, laughing.

"Is that my new nickname?"

"For now, until we figure out a worse one," Sirius says.

"Belle's better than Freckles I s'pose," I mutter.

"What was that? Freckles?" Peter butts in.

"Oh no. What have I done?!" I exclaim, giggling again.

"Freckles. What a great nickname. We should definitely call you that. I wish I'd thought of it." Remus said, laughing.

"Oh shove off Remus. One day I'll get you back for that nickname, with one so much worse." I winked.

I already have a nickname for Remus. Moony. Because he's a werewolf. But, of course, I can't call him Moony or people might figure out why. We made that deal last night. I probably should have said that he couldn't call me freckles and I couldn't call him Moony, but too late.

"Oh gosh, I'm nervous," I said, shaking my hands out, waiting in the line for the sorting hat. At least we weren't fighting a dragon.

Sirius had already got sorted. Gryffindor. At least one of us would get the house we wanted.

"Don't worry you'll be fine, Freckles." James tapped me on the back, reassuring me.

"Y/N Lupin." Professor McGonagall called.

I walked up, with all eyes staring up at me. I was completely shaking as she put the hat on my head.

"Ah yes," the voice of the hat purred.

"Hmm. Very kind and loyal yes, but also very smart. But what's this? Uh-huh."

Was the hat confused? What if it couldn't decide and I was kicked out of Hogwarts?

"You are certainly the most difficult I have had in a long time, but I think this is the right house for you."

"GRYFFINDOR!" The voice rang out in the halls, as the Gryffindor house began to cheer, along with the boys I had sat with, in the compartment.

I got up from the chair and went to sit down next to Sirius, my legs feeling like lead. He patted me on the back as we watched my twin begin to walk towards the sorting hat.

Remus was shaking just as much as I was, although the hat's deliberation was a lot quicker than mine.

"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat exclaimed.

I clapped so hard my hands hurt. Remus came and sat next to us.

After a few more minutes, "James Potter," was called by Professor McGonagall.

Almost as soon as the hat touched his head the word I had heard screamed from my head, was screaming from his.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

James came and sat down next to us, grinning like crazy.

His hair was completely messed up so I tried to fix it as he sat down.

Sirius nudged me, smirking.

I felt my face go red and took my hands from James' hair.

I opened my mouth to defend myself but before I could say anything Peter came to sit down next to us, the newest addition to the Gryffindor House.

We said goodnight to each other after a few hours of talking.

I can already tell this will be a great friendship.

okay, so to quickly preface. this used to be an oc x james. i've gone through and changed everything appearance and name-wise, however, she's still going to have a pretty certain personality. also, i wrote this book back ages ago before i even got into the whole marauders' stuff so marlene and some of the others won't be introduced until i start writing again (i've written up to about fifth year and will release it slowly :)). that's why the character is awkward and incredibly cringe, i'm getting second-hand embarrassment editing this lmao. and finally, the nickname freckles. if you don't have freckles just idk maybe you could have one birthmark on your hand that looks somewhat like a freckle? i just don't know what to change it to so if you have suggestions, I'll certainly take them.

ok onto the story!
