I was getting ready for the school production, as I had to introduce the show. I was volunteered by my form tutor as she thought I would be the 'right fit' for the role, as the principal wouldn't be available that night. Alex had walked me home and we planned to meet up at the school gates later ready for the night. I wasn't really that bothered as I knew I wouldn't mess up.

I decided not to wear the tacky outfit school had told us and chose my own clothes to wear. My parents were finally home to watch my part in the production and they would also be off work the next day which I was really excited for. I headed downstairs and fell flat on the couch as I heard my brother come down the stairs.

"You ready, Vae?" he asked jumping on me.

"OWW GET THE FUCK OFF OF ME RIGHT NOW MARI BEFORE I ACTUALLY KILL YOU" I said forgetting my parents were home.

"VAEH, language" my dad said walking into the room followed by my mom.

"Honestly Vaeh. I wonder where you get it from." my brother said finally getting off of me and heading towards the door.

"At this rate, we're going to have to bring the swear jar back" my mom said as I winced at the memories. I can sadly say I lost over $5 a week because of that stupid jar. It's a scam, honestly. As I stood up to head to the door, my brother randomly started shouting.

"VAEH OH MY GOD! What are you wearing?" He said trying to get me in trouble as my parents looked at my outfit.

"What?! It's not as bad as what the girls you be sneaking in every other night wear." I said outing him, destroying his attempt of getting me in trouble. My parents suddenly snapped their heads towards Amari, as I ran out the house and into the car. I soon saw a sheepish looking Mari walking out the house with slight rage in his eyes.

"You really had to stoop that low, didn't you?" he said pushing me.

"When they go low, I go lower." I said before my parents entered the car driving us to the school.

------ TIME SKIP------

After an excrutiating, 20 minutes with Mari, I finally ran out the car, not before telling my parents where to sit. I saw Alex waiting at the entrance of the school so I walked up to him.

"Hi Alex" I said wrapping my arms around his neck before he instantly wrapped his around my lower back. I could feel staring so I let go and turned around seeing my brother pointing towards me and Alex with my parents eyes following his finger. I could still make out what Mari was saying in the distance.

"... that's her lil' boyfriend she be bringing over..."

I knew he was getting payback so I decided to be bold and risk my life. I grabbed Alex's hand and pulled him towards my parents as Mari backed up and hid behind my dad scared that I would attack him.

"Mom, dad, this is Alex" I said regretting my life choices as he extended his hand to shake theirs. My parents looked between themselves and his hand before my mom reached out to shake it with a smile on his face.

"Nice to meet you Mr and Mrs Brown" he said befor attempting to shake my dad's hands.

"Hm. What are your intentions with my daughter, young sir?" my dad said before gripping Alex's hand a bit too hard. I could tell it hurt him as he winced before my dad let go.

"Erm, nothing yet, but soon imma make her mine Mr Brown." he said staring at me whilst licking his lips before my mom awwed the interaction pulling my dad away to prevent problems. My brother reluctantly followed behind eyeing me knowing I was one up. As we arrived 30 minutes early, I walked around with Alex to kill time before we walked into the auditorium and made my way backstage.

I was going over my lines to make sure everything was okay before seeing Maya chug a can of ginger ale presumubly to calm her nerves down. Having learnt from previous experiences, I decided to warn her against it but soon changed my plan and decided to creep up on them instead.

"What are you guys looking at?" I said before they both jumped back surprised it was me behind them.

"Nothing"

"Alex... I mean nothing"

"Alright cool. You do know that if you look at the crowd before hand it's gonna freak you out and make you panice right" I said looking at them.

"Told you Maya" Anna said walking away.

"And go easy on the ginger ale, Maya. If you chug it, it's gonna make you throw up" I said before going to my place on the stage as the production was about to start.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Trailview Middle School's night of amazing music showcase" I started as I spoke into the mic.

"La musique" Mr Wyzell said before the crowd errupted into applause.

As the music started, I found my seat in the crowd next to my parents, as we sat and watched peacefully. Anna was singing whilst Heather was doing the sign language to the song. We all applauded the choir before the curtains drew and the crowd fell in to quiet chatter. My family were sat behind Maya's so my brother, Shuji and I made small talk.

"I swear Maya's got a solo in this" I said

"10 bucks she messes up" Shuji asked me before I agreed despite knowing she was 100% going to mess up.

"You're on" I said shaking his hand before getting up to say my next line. I made my way down before the curtains drew telling me I could start.

"Ladies and gentlemen, you're in for a special treat this evening. The band has been hard at work on an original song composed by Mr Wyzell himself. Hope you enjoy." I said before exiting the stage again.

Surprisingly, it was going quite well despite the struggles in practice last week but of course it just had to get ruined by someone. Maya began slamming the drums uncoordinately making everyone stop and stare and her. My brother, Shuji and I held in our laughter as Maya continued to embarass herself smiling scarily making people believe she had gotten possessed when really it was just her normal personality.

She began to scream mid solo and I just couldn't hold it in. I burst out laughing and so did the other two. By this time, I had completely forgotten about me and Mari's on going war but oh well. Maya signalled to Mr Wyzell to continue and the band finished the song completely out of sync. We all thought the train wreck of the preformance was going to end there but Maya threw up all over herself and the stage infront of her making me gag uncontrollably.

The audience gasped in shock as I couldn't hold back my laughter. At this point my brother and Shuji were crying tears of laughter, as I reached over into my purse and handed Shuji $10 before making my way down to close the showcase.

"Erm, can we have a round of applause for that... unique preformance please?" I said as a scatter of applause sounded as it eventually got louder filling the auditorium.

"Thank you for coming and I hope you enjoy the rest of your evening. Goodbye" I said as applause filled the place once again as I walked to my parents. Despite laughing at Maya's sudden outburst, I felt bad for the girl so I decided to go up to her to make sure she was okay.

"Maya, you okay? That was a... questionable solo you did there." I said trying to put the sentence in nice words in order to not hurt her feeling any more.

"I totally just embarrased myself infront of everyone, didn't I?" she said sounding upset.

"Nah not really. I know people that have done worse." I said before walking back to my family. I walked back to my family as they gave me flowers and chocolates and promised to take me out tomorrow as a treat. In my peripherel vision, I saw Alex standing with a flower making his way towards somebody in my eyeline. Heather

My heart visibly shattered as my family followed my eyes to see Alex hugging Heather, his hands travelling down her lower back before kissing her. I don't think he realised we were still here, as I told him we would be heading home quite quickily. My brother hugged me as I let a tear slip before quickily wiping it away realising I wasn't about to cry over a boy that hadn't even wifed me up yet. I slowly pulled away before making my way to the two.

As I walked up I saw Alex's face turn from relaxed to alarmed, as he saw me storming up to them. Even though me and Alex had no title, everyone knew to stay away due to our slight jealousy problems. I grabbed the rose from Heather's hand and threw it on the ground stomping on it leaving it destroyed. I then pulled off the ring he gave me and placed it in his palm.

"Don't talk to me,ever again" I said before walking away leaving him in a pool of embarassment.

"That's my girl" my mother said hugging me before she pulled my very angry looking dad away. Let's just say if looks could kill, Alex would be 6 feet under by now.

My brother wrapped his arm around my shoulder and led me out of the school towards the car with my parents following behind us with displeasement on their faces. If we weren't at school, I know my brother would've beat up Alex but he didn't want to ruin his reputation by beating up a 9th grader.

The car ride was unusually chill as my parents played music to raise the mood due to me being solemn. Once I got home, I went straight upstairs and locked myself in my room before blasting my heartbreak playlist trying to get into the heartbreak mood.

As the music played in the background, my thoughts were interrupted by my phoone ringing however I just turned it off and threw it in my draw before seeing a pre rolled blunt in there. I grabbed it and lit it opening my window and sitting by it. I inhaled the smoke immediately feeling at ease as all my worries left my head.

Let's just say, Alex is gonna have to do a lot to win me back.
