I woke up tired from the day before as I dreaded the long day ahead of me. Today was the day of the ball and Alex had slept over. My parents had come home yesterday and we had dinner together with Alex and they decided to give him another chance with me since they could tell how strong our connection was.

I was in the mood to do something different with my hair, so I decided to get blonde highlights in my nextappointment which was today. We had ended up falling asleep late last night for no reason at all which I regretted. I was lowkey excited for tonight since I knew I was gonna rock this outfit.

I grabbed my phone looking at the time before realising how far behind schedule I was. It was almost 12:00 and my nail appointment was at 12:45. I aggressively shook Alex awake as I sat up.

"Alex. Alex!" I said but he didn't move, "Alex fucking wake up!" I said as grabbed the pillow and started hitting him awake.

"Fuck's sake. What Nevaeh?" he mumbled as he turned around to face me.

"Wake up. We're already running behin schedule" I said getting out of the bed and throwing the pillow at him one last time before going into the bathroom to have a shower. As the water ran, I walked back in my room, grabbing what I needed before giving Alex one last warning.

"Alex, by the time I finish showering, you better be out of bed and doing something productive." I said as I noticed him still not out of bed.

I had showered, shaved and moisturized my body as I threw on a basic and practical outfit for the day. The event started at 7 pm but we had to be there by 6 pm since we were the hosts. As I walked back into my bedroom, I saw Alex immediately get out of my bed, not wanting to get told off by me.

"Seriously Alex. We're already behind schedule bro. Come on, hurry up." I said as he walked towards me. The word bro had unintentionally slipped out since I used it in my vocabulary so much.

"I'm up, i'm up" he said leaning in to kiss me, "and I'm not your 'bro' Nevaeh" he said as he grabbed his stuff and went to have his shower. Alex was still not done 20 minutes later and I could hear him rapping to his music.

"Alex don't fucking play with me right now. I'm late for my fucking nail appointment and it's a 20 dollar late fee." It was already 12:30 and I hated being late since it showed such a bad impression.

"Chill baby. I'm done" he said coming out of the bathroom with his hair wet. I can't even lie he looked sexy as fuck but I was mad at him so I didn't say anything.

"Let's go then" I said, "The uber's waiting" as I walked downstairs to the kitchen grabbing a breakfast bar for myself and Alex before walking out with him behind me. We got in the uber discussing out plans for today. Alex was planning to get a hair cut whilst I was getting my nails done since it was across the street. Alex walked me to the girl's house. She was a small business that I had seen on Instagram so I decided to help her boost her business a bit and she seemed cool over text so yeah.

I texted her we were here and she replied not soon after. She came to the door and opened it as she greeted me and Alex letting us in. She seemed friendly at first encouter which I rated cuz some of these instagram businesses be moving shady as fuck. I sat down as I showed her the design I had saved on my phone as Alex sat on a small couch placed against the wall. He scrolled on his phone for a while before putting it away and coming over to me.

"Alright baby, imma head out and get a haircut. I'll see you later okay" he said as he pecked my lips before saying bye to Inara (the nail tech) too.

"Bye bae" I said as he walked out the room

"Girl, you guys are so cute" Inara said as she smiled at me

"Aw, thank you girl. So, you got a man too?" I said as she gave me a tired look

"Chile, he too immature for me. I'm more of in a situationship rather than a relationship and let me tell you, I'm tired"

"Damn girl. Situationships are the worst. Me and Alex ain't even in an official relationship yet and if only you knew what I had to go through to get him girl."

"Trust me, it can't be worst than me" she said as I rolled my eyes playfully and began telling her the story.

------ TIME SKIP ------

Me and Inara had gotten a lot closer over the hour she had spent doing my nails and i can't even lie, she did her thing with this one. The nails were eating and her story telling was almost better. She had told me about her man and their issues and how her now ex bestfriend tried to make a move on him when she knew Inara liked him and trust me when I say that wasn't it.

Anyways, I had called Alex to see where he was at and he had just finished and he was on his way back. I decided to surprise him and get his initial on my nails and I couldn't wait to see his reaction. I payed the nail tech and made sure to tip her extra since she added amazing details.

As the door opened, me and Inara immediately looked over realising it was Alex. As I looked in his direction, I admired his haircut as it made his jawline stand out more. I guess they were right when they said hair changes everything. I hugged him quickly as he greeted Inara.

"Let's see them then" he said as I showed him my nails, a grin appearing on both of our faces.
"No way, that's dope as fuck" he said to Inara as he noticed the A on my ring finger. He smiled down at me as he leaned in kissing me. I kissed him back before I heard Inara clear her throat.

"Some of us are single here" she said as she playfully rolled her eyes. I thanked her again as we exchanged numbers.
Me and Alex walked out the door and started our journey to the hair salon which was like 5 minutes away. Alex couldn't stop looking at my nails as we walked hand in hand. We had arrived at the hair salon and I signed in and everything bedore taking a seat. Alex had gone to the park since Dustin and Brandt had asked him to meet up there.

I hadn't talked to Brandt since the incident and I wasn't planning on speaking to him until he had the decency told apologise to Maya. I hadn't talked to Maya either which I was meaning to do so I decided to do it now. As I waited for my hair stylist, I called Shuji since Maya didn't have a phone yet.

"Yo Shuj, you good?" I asked
"Yeah I'm good. What you need?" He asked impatiently as I rolled my eyes
"No need to be fucking rude. Anyways is Maya around, I need to talk to her"
"Maya? Sure she's here one second" he said as I sat waiting. I could hear across the phone Maya and Shuji arguing since he entered her room without knocking.

"Hello" Maya said as I averted my attention back to my phone.
"Wassup Maya. How you been? I ain't talked to you in a while"
"I've been good. How about you?" she asked hesitantly
"Yeah I'm coping I'm coping. Imma just get straight to the point. Has Brandt said anything to you since that situation happened?"

"Erm actually he apologised which makes me think he's clearly obsessed with me but he also said something like he's only apologising for the sake of you guys' friendship."
"Oh really?" I said

"Yep , he also said he's probably not gonna talk to you for a while in case you beat him up and get mad at him"
"Oh okay. Anyways Maya, how's life been?"

"Well if I tell you this you can't tell anyone." She said as I debated my options
"I can't promise you that but go on"

"Well I met this guy online and before you say stranger danger, I trust him. But yeah he's so handsome and I think I'm falling in love with him"
"Ok that's sounds cute. Have you met him in person yet?"

"Well I was gonna but something came up. And before you say anything, I didnt go alone. I went with Anna and Brendon"

"Brendon the weirdo from band?" I said without thinking
"Yeah him. So yeah I'm thinking of meeting up with him again but I don't know because I've been catfishing him and he thinks I look way older and different to how I look now"

"Shittt. Well why did you feel the need to catfish him?" I asked trying to understand things from her POV
"Because he's older, he's in his early thirties and he thinks I'm in my late twenties"

"Oh shit Maya, you fucked uppp" I said realising how bad this situation was, "but wait how do you know how he says he looks is how he actually looks if you've never met him before"
"I trust him Vaeh. You don't understand. We've grown to love each other"

"Maya imma be real with you right now. This is a very dangerous and risky situation you're in right now. If I was you, I would leave it even if it's hard because in the long run it'll be worth it. How'd you know he's not some creep tryna get some young pussy, bro. My bad, that came out wrong but you get the point."
"Ew, Nevaeh but I know, I know. I just have a good feeling about him. And I trust him a lot and he trusts me. So I'm just gonna see how it plays out."
"Alright well if that's what your gut instinct is telling you then you should trust it but sometimes you should follow your head and not your heart."

"Okay well thanks for the advice Nevaeh"
"No problem Maya. Remember if you ever need advice or need to talk to someone, I'm here for you okay?"
"Okay. I'm going to give Shuji his phone. Bye"
"Adios" I said as I heard commotion in the background again

"Wassup Nevaeh?" He asked me casually sounding fed up
"Why'd you sound tired of me? Acting like I'm not the highlight of your day" I said
"You're so right Nevaeh. Every time I see your call I get so happy." He said sarcastically. I could hear the sass in his voice

"Anyways, are you still coming tonight?" I asked since he was invited to the ball
"Yep and I'm bringing a date as well so you'll get to meet her"
"Really? That's so cute. I didn't even know you had the capability of pulling someone." I said trying to piss him off.

"Shut up, you know the ladies love me." He said
"Don't be delusional. But I gotta go Shuji"
I'll see you tonight then"
"Bye Shuji. Take care"
"See you Ne-" he said as I ended the call mid sentence

——— TIME SKIP ———
My hair was done and I looked fucking sexy bro, like how was I turning myself on just looking at me. I had gotten my hair dyed blonde and it actually suited me really well. I was now walking to park where Alex was at but not before stopping at the store to get snacks.

I got Dustin and Brandt something as well just cuz I was in the mood for being nice. I checked the time and saw it now 3:00pm which was okay since we had 30 minutes to spare. I walked alone enjoying the peace which I rarely got. I had soon arrived at the park and saw the boys sat on the swings passing around a blunt. Alex wasn't smoking since we made that deal.

"Hey guys" I said approaching them as their faces dropped in awe, "What's up. Why are you all looking at me like that?" I said as I passed them, or more like threw their snacks at them. I lightly laughed as the chips hit Dustin's face.

"Your hair" Brandt said still shocked
"What about it?" I replied
"It looks amazing" Alex said as he looked at me with a sparkle in his eyes
"Aw, thanks babe"

"He's lying; it looks shit" Dustin said laughing
"Fuck off Dustin. No one cares what you think" I said rolling my eyes
"I was joking, it looks cute" he said

"Blonde suits you Vaeh" Brandt said as I smiled in appreciation. I made my way to sit on the swing next to Alex as I opened my drink taking a sip.

"I know." I said as he rolled his eyes sarcastically, "But thanks"

"Anyways, you guys ready for tonight?" Dustin asked me and Alex as we looked at each other.
"I dunno, I've never been to one of these" Alex replied.

"Trust me when I say no amount of preparation can prepare you for this event. It's either really boring or really chaotic. No inbetween. Normally when I go alone it tends to be boring but since you're gonna be there with me i guess it'll be alright" I said

"Alright? Nah we're gonna have the time of our lives sat in the corner judging everyone" he said making me smile

"Thanks for the food Vaeh, I was starving and broke" Dustin said
"I can tell. You look it" I said as he looked at me with a sarcastic face.

——— TIME SKIP ———

We were now walking to my house and Dustin and Alex were in front of me and Brandt being weird like usual. The silence was kinda awkward since I almost tried to fight him and his friend a couple weeks ago.

"So... how you been?" Brandt asked making things 10x more awkward.
"Shut up" i said accidentally slipping up.
"Okay." He said before I felt bad

"Sorry. I've been good. You?" I asked as his face kind of lighted up
"Yeah I've been aight. Just missed you that's it." He said. Damn I knew I was well like but I didn't know me not being there made an impact on people.

"Aw, don't go soft on me now Brandt" I said as I playfully rolled my eyes. He chuckled before he opened his mouth again to say something.

"Listen Vaeh, I'm sorry for what happened that day. I was a dick for no reason and I realise how wrong I was for doing that. I've apologised to Maya as well but I wanted to apologise to you as well before you beat me up in my sleep" he said as I chuckled lightly at his words

"It's cool Brandt. As long as you understand you were wrong for what you did. Anyway, I'm over it. I've been over it since I Maya accepted your apology so we'll just leave it in the past."
"Okay" he said satisfied as we hugged it out

"Quick question. Why'd it take you so long to talk to me?" I asked frowning
"I was scared you were gonna beat my ass. Nah I'm joking. I felt guilty and I didn't wanna lose our friendship so I decided to give you some time to chill out"

"Aw you care about our friendship that much?" I said provoking me
"You know I do Nevaeh" he said as we walked side by side to my house catching up on the last couple of weeks.
