Chapter 31

Words: 1197

Deuce kindly explained the situation to the headmage who was actually paying attention for once.

"Ah... I believe I understand the situation." Crowley held his hand up to his chin in thought. "You are resistant to the idea of apologizing, but unable to devise any other method to get the housewarden to removed the collar."

"Yeah, pretty much." Ace grumbled with a sloppy shrug of his shoulders.

The crow nodded. "I see. If you and the Housewarden are truly unable to reconcile, you could always transfer. However, this is the dorm that the Dark Mirror chose for you based on the essence of your being. Any attempt to relocate would necessitate quite a burdensome process, as well as a new ritual."

"A transfer, huh...? That'd make me feel like I was running away with my tail between my legs." The ginger replied in his same snarly tone.

"Hmm. Then it sounds like you should challenge Mr. Rosehearts for leadership of the dorm.

"WHAAAAAT?!" Everyone, including you this time, screamed at the dumb comment the headmage just dared to make.

"No offense or anything, but do you want the boy to die?! That's insane!" You stated in a louder tone than you usually would.

Ace placed an offended hand on his chest while gasping dramatically while Yuu just started laughing with Grim.

"Lower your voices! This is a library!" Crowley once again whisper shouted to you all.

Yuu and Grim's laughing gradually died down, with Yuu leaning on your shoulder as to not fall over from his previous laughing fit.

"But what you said was... insane!" Ace whisper shouted at the masked man infront of him.

Crowley just tutted at him before soeakig at his regular volume. "There is nothing remotely "insanr" about it. After all, that's how Mr. Rosehearts got the position."

"It is when the guy you're telling him to duel collars you, and locks down your magic in less then a second." You groaned under your breath for only Yuu to here. Said boy snickered softly while patting your shoulder.

"What exactly is the process by which Housewardens are selected at Night Raven College?" Deuce asked in his usual polite tone.

Grim nodded. "Trey said that Riddle became Housewarden within his first week as a student here."

Crowley smiled. He liked it when people asked normal questions. "There are several ways. You could be appointed by the previous Housewarden, for example, or duel the current warden and win. A duel is certainly one of the simpler methods."

Ace tried to understand the logic, but still didn't seem the quite get it. "But isn't fighting with magic against the rules?"

"In general, yes. A duel initiated through a formal procedure and conducted in the presence of the headmage is another matter intirely." The crow man stated with a nerdy finger in the air.

"I'm pretty sure the duel rules don't allow for preemptively handicapping your opponent... So this could be a way to force Riddle to remove your collat without apologizing. That said..." Trey crossed his arms as he spoke.

The headmage cut him off with a smile on his face. "The right to challenge a Housewarden is bestowed upon all students enrolling at Night Raven. So what do you say, Mr. Trappola? Will you challenge Mr. Rosehearts?"

Ace looked somehow a little excited, although still undeniably pissy. "Sure, I'll give it a shot!"

"Then I will too!" Deuce smiled while pumping one of his fists in the air.

"Oh, oh, oh! Me three!" Grim shouted somewhat excitedly while raising his paw into the air.

"I don't think you can, Grim. You're nor from Heartslabyul." You grabbed his paw while a frown etched onto his small face.

"I'm afraid Ms. Y/n is right, Mr. Grim. You cannot challenge a Housewarden of a dorm to which you do not belong." Crowley hummed at your words.

"Myah?! Then how'm I supposed to get this buzzkill collar off?!" He screeched while tugging at the thing around his neck.

"If I become Houseearden, I'll just order Riddle to remove it! Easy-peasy!" Ace chuckled at the thought.

"How will everyone know how tough I am if you do that?" Grim shouted while crossing his small paws.

"Don't worry Grim. I'll speak to Riddle about taking it off for you. You're not from Heartslabyul after all." You pat his soft fur, making his ears plop down a bit.

He, of course, climbed into your lap making your tail start swishing back and forth aswell out if happiness from the small bundle of warmth.

Trey's eyes glistened at you for a little, before he turned Deuce. "Are you sure about this? I certainly didn't expect you to throw your hat in the ring, Deuce."

"You didn't? I think every man's gotta make a grab for glory at least once in his lifetime. And if we're teaming up to take him down, ya better believe I'm running the show!" Deuce said with an determined look spread over every corner of his face.

"Oh man, here we go again." Ace smirked as he spoke in his usual cocky tone.

Deuce seemed confused at what Ace was talking about for some reason. "Huh? What'd ya say?"

Crowley cut them off before they could start bickering with eachother. "Then I'll get started on the paperwork."

Yuu stopped him from doing that. "We need to come up with some sort of plan first."

Ace nodded and started looking around the group. "For sure. Anyone got any good ideas."

"Hmm. Hard to imagine we can beat Riddle with straightforward magic." Deuce muttered with a hand at his chin. Detective style.

His thoughtful expression then turned into a sky smirk as he held his fist in his hand. "A solid left hook, in the other hand..."

Grim seemed to be totally up for just beating the living daylight out of Riddle. "Yeah, that guy looks like a pushover!"

You scoffed and side-eyed the two. "Woah there. I don't think physical contact is allowed Deucey." Yku grumbled while rubbing your temple.

This seemed to remind the crow still amongst you all. "Ah, did I forget to mention that detail? These duels are to be fought solely with magic."

"What?!" Deuce slumped down in disappointment.

Crowley gave him a nervous glance before deciding to play it off cool. "Ha ha ha! Nothing beat a good, civilized duel! Now, the paperwork shoule be prepared and filed on the morrow, and the duel schedule accordingly."

Ace actually seemed kind of calm about the situation. "Aight, Let's do this! I may not be the world's greatest mage, but...I'll figure something out!"

"That's the spirit!" Deuce still seemed kind of hyped for the fight.

Grim just grumbled from your lap before turning to the boys. "My head's on the line here, so don't mess this up!"

"You guys..." Trey looked a mix of disappointed and surprised at their determination.

Ace naturally had to get a little cocky again. "When I'm Housewarden, I'm gonna make Riddle fess up to bein' wrong. I'll make him apologize, too! And no one in the dorm is gonna have to live by any crazy rules ever again!"
