Chapter 20

Words: 1166

"What's everyone's favorite food?"

You tilted your head in confusion, your ears slightly plopping to the side.

Ace hummed. "Me? Probably cherry pie. Or hamburgers."

"Canned tuna's at the top of my list. Then maybe cheese omelets, roast meat, pudding..." Grim started on one of his several obsessive food rants.

Deuce, luckily for all your ears, cut Grim off. "If I had to pick, I guess I'd say...omelet rice?"

"I like a good lamb chop with Diablo sauce." Cater added in aswell.

Trey then turned his head to you. "And you, Y/n? Yuu?"

"I love me some sushi." Yuu said with a bright smile.

"Uhm.." You thought for a moment. "I think that [F/c] is very good." You answered while reassuring your answer with a nod.

Trey smiled. "All right, you've fot it... Let's "Paint the Roses"!"

...

"Huh? What does that mean?" Deuce asked while looking around in confusion.

"Take another bite of your tart and see." Trey answered with a calm smile.

You gently scraped the fork over the plate as you removed another piece of the tart and placed it in your mouth.

Ace was the first to talk with his mouth still full. "Huh? How- Now it tastes like cherry pie!"

"It's just like canned tuna! Now it tastes like a cheese omelets! And grilled meat! And pudding!" Grim was chewing louder then Kaveh and Al Haitham arguing, and you stared at him in disgust.

Said disgust quickly faded as the delicious flavors of [F/c] started melting down your tongue.

Just as earlier, you hummed in pure delight, and your tail started wagging from left to right.

Cater chuckled at the sight of you. "Neat trick, eh. That's gotta be a hit when Trey's having tea with ladies."

"It is very impressive. Is changing flavors your signature spell, Trey?" Deuce asked after swallowing the omelet rice rice tasting piece of tart.

Trey shook his head. "Technically, it's "overwriting characteristics." I can change taste, color, smell, whatever. It only lasts for a little while. But it's kinda like covering up the real thing hence, "painting.""

"If I had magic like that, I could be eatin' canned tuna every meal of every day!" Grim shouted in excitement.

"That's way better than Riddle's stupid collar magic!" The creature finished with a smile.

Trey stopped the cat from continuing. "Oh, that's in a whole other league. His signature spell is a weapon. Mines just childish prestidigitation."

He looked down with sloght disappointment, but you shook your head.

"You shouldn't compare your magic to that of others. My dad can dreate massive claws with his electro vision, I can't. But that doesn't mean I'm any less strong. I personally think your signature spell is very cool and impressive."

Trey looked at you with slightly wide eyes as the faintest bit of pink dusted his cheeks. "Thank you, Y/n. That's very nice of you. U-uhm, anyways. Speaking of Riddle- it's too late to give him these now. Let's call it a day and do it tomorrow. Also, don't forget that tomorrow's the unbirthday party. You don't want to be late."

You nodded and started packing up. While doing so, Ace slid an arm over your shoulder and chuckled slightly.

"Yo, Y/n... Can I crash with you again? It doesn't sound like I'll be allowed back in my dorm tonight." He said it in a tone that showed he didn't mind sleeping over another night at all.

Cater looked at him with disappointed eyes. "Again, seriously?"

Deuce groaned. "It isn't right to keep mooching off of Y/n and Yuu, Ace."

"Yeah, it ain't! If you wanna stay tonight, you gotta pay for the privilege! Ten cans of tuna!" Grim yelled in frustration while holding his small paw up.

Ace's eyes widened in annoyance. "What?! Guess I'm sleeping outside, then."

Was this guy trying to guilt trip you?

Trey chuckled at the banter between them. "Why don't you go and stay at
Y/n's dorm room, Deuce, so you can keep an eye on him? As vice Housewarden, I cab issue you a sleepover pass."

"That's our Trey, always spoiling the newbs. What fun for you." Cater muttered. He then seemed to get a bright idea. "Ooh, maybe I'll come too! What do you say, Y/n?"

"Uh, I don't really mind-" You were cut off by Trey.

"No pass for you." He interupted with a stern voice.

The orange head slumped his shoulders. "Aww. Sad trumpet... Womp womp wooomp."

Trey then turned his full attention towards you. "Sorry to dump them all on you, Y/n. At least it's just for tonight."

You chuckled lightly. "It's no problem, Trey." You shook your head, and your ears moved along nicely.

Cater was gaping at you, and your fluffy ears, as they flopped around. You didn't know why.

You were about to ask when Ace spoke. "Tomorrow's the unbirthday party. Finally, I'm gonna get rid of this stupid collar! Just you wait, Riddle!

He pumped his fist in determination, and you snickered at his antics.

"Let's just head back for now." Yuu said, and you all headed out of the kitchen.

Trey and Cater went their own way to Heartslabyul, and the four of you went to the Ramshackle dorm.

~With Trey and Cater~

"Trey! Cater! You're finally back! We've been looking everywhere for you!" A student in the Heartslabyul uniform ran up to the two of them as they entered the dorm.

"What happened?" Trey asked the shorter student in a confused tone, while Cater made a small wave towards the student.

"Ten dorm members were caught violating rule 256... "Never drink honey-sweetend lemonade after 8 p.m." Housewarden Riddle collared them all!" The boy seemed to be visibly trembling.

Both Trey and Cater looked at the student with shock, both grunting in slightly.

Tears started welling up into the shorter boys eyes. "I can't take it anymore! I can't live like this! Everything we do violates some insane rule! I want to transfer to another dorm...!" He now started sobbing to himself.

Trey nodded in understanding of the situation and pat the boy's back gently. "It'll be okay. We'll go talk to the Housewarden. You go back to your room."

He nodded between his silent sobs and ran up the stairs.

Cater sighed out and turned towards the kitchen. "... Guess I'd better go make some tea or something, as a show of deference to the Queen."

"Thanks, Cater. Oh, but make sure it's herbal tea, not black. You know what rule 153 says about drinking tea at night." Trey couldn't muster himself to smile during their current situation.

"...Yeaaah, sure. Of course." Cater nodded and walked away as the room was engulfed in a dark red.

Small splotteres of black ink fell down, and mixed with the pool that had previously started forming on the surface.

Even from far away, you heard the dropping sounds from your spot besides Yuu in bed.

✿༺ Cater is desperate to pet your ears.

✿༺ You really want to know what that dripping sound is.
✿༺ Deuce was happy he got to stay over without saying a word about it.
