Chapter 7

"I'm already exhausted from a full day of cleanin'. I can't believe we still gotta wash a hundred windows!" Grim sighed out as you walked into the cafeteria.

You sighed and rolled your eyes at the cat on your shoulders. "You brought this onto yourself."

You all grabbed some lunch and decided to wait for Ace while you ate.

"We just gotta suck it up and do it." Yuu agreed

You grabbed a bowl of Miso soup and walked towards one of the many empty tables. You sat down and waited for Yuu and Grim to do the same.

"What's buggin' me is, Ace ain't even here yet! To make us wait after what he did... Grrr!"

"Stop growling and just eat your food." You placed the spoon with Miso soup in your mouth, and yours eyes began to sparkle while your ears perked up.

You knew they had Miso soup in Inazuma, but you had never tried it. Unknown to you, Yuu was staring at you with a slight smile on his face.

Yuu also started to eat is food, and so did Grim.

You all waited and waited just for Ace to not show up. So after you all had finished eating you decided to go look for him.

"... And now he's super late! I bet he up and bailed on us!"

"I think so... He didn't look like he'd show up at main street." Yuu mentioned and you nodded.

"Let's just go and look for him."

"Yeah! Ain't no way am I doin' his punishment for him! C'mon, Yuu, Y/n! I don't care if we gotta drag him kickin' and screamin', he's washin' those windows!" Grim agreed to what you said and started running out of the cafeteria.

You ran after him as the cat slammed open the door of a random classroom.

"Hey! Ace! Get over here! Try to hide from me, will ya!" Grim started screaming like a lunatic.

"Grim, he's not gonna come out with you screaming like that. Stop it." You scolded him while looking around the classroom.

Grim huffed a small sorry and then climed onto your shoulder to look around better.

"Hmm, maybe there is no one here?" Grim asked, just now noticing the class was empty.

"Oh, I wouldn't say that. I'm here." Someone spoke up. You turned around and your eyes fell onto a talking painting.

"A talking painting...?" Your head tipped slightly to the side.

"Myahh! The painting can talk!" Grim almost fell off of your shoulder, but you caught him and held him in your arms. He snuggled into you as if to protect himself from the artwork.

You looked at the cat with slight wide eyes, before your tail started unintentionally wagging. Yuu saw and snickered slightly at your soft behavior.

The painting looked a little offended at Grim's yelling. "Yes, and? Is a talking painting really such an oddity at this school?"

"I'm sorry. It's our first day here, so were still getting a little used to it." Yuu apologized with a kind smile.

"It's alright, young one. The lady in the portrait on that wall talks too. As does the gentleman in the portrait on this wall. As long as a painting has a mouth, why wouldn't it be able to talk?"

"In fact, yes. Painting usually don't talk where I'm from. How about you Y/n?" Yuu asked you.

"They also don't talk where I'm from..." You muttured.

"Well, your "usual" and my "usual" clearly differ. Shall we agree to disagree on the matter?" You both nodded at him. Grim didn't as he was still hiding away in the crook of your neck.

"Now, you seem to be searching for someone."

Grim finally got out of your neck and looked at the painting from his spot in your arms.

"We're lookin' for this guy called Ace. He's got messy hair, and a heart drawn on his face." Grim mentioned.

"He's a ginger, and about this tall." You held your hand a little above your head, about the height of the tips of your ears.

(Y/n is around 160cm/5'3 bc Cyno is around that height (you can imagine her a little taller but I'm gonna metion her around that height), I know Ace is 172cm/5'8)

"Ah, I know the one. A new student, I believe? Today was his first day at school. I think he went back to his dorm a while ago." The painting answered nicely.

"Myaaah! So it's true! He's tryin' to ditch us! Do you know which way he went?"

"The door to the dorms is in the eastern building, so I'm guessing he went that way." 

"Let's chase after him! C'mon!" Grim started flailing around in your arms.

"Thank you for your help, we appreciate it!" You bowed to the statue, who smiled at you.

"No problem lad, now go find your friend." You walked out with Yuu following you outside.

You and Yuu ran towards the eastern building. Yuu was having a hard time keeping up with you, and Grim was lounging in your arms.

"Yeah right, like I'm gonna wash a hundred windows. I'm just gonna go back and -"

Grim spotted Ace and immediately turned aggressive agian. "AHA! GOTCHA, PUNK!"

Ace turned around to look at the three of you coming towards him. "Oh no! They saw me!" Ace turned to the side and started running down a different hallway.

Grim hoped out your arms and started running towards Ace on his own. "Stop right there, pal! No fair gettin' a head start! Wait!"

"Who in their right mind would ever wait?! Seeya!"

You scooped Grim up and pushed him into the exhausted Yuu's arms. You then started chasing after the freshman. "No way you're getting out of this! You think I WANNA wash those windows?" Grim yelled after the two of you.

He was laughing to himself that he escaped while he pushed a student with navy blue hair out of the way. "Outta my way!" Ace continued running down the hall.

"Hey! What gives?!" You caught the falling navy blue haired boy since you were close enough on Ace's heels to do so. He had bright cyan eyes, and a black spade at the corner of his right eye.

"You alright? Sorry about him. Can you maybe help us stop him?" You asked the student after seeing the pen that Riddle person used to cast his magic.

"What? I mean sure, but how? Like, freeze his legs? Or bind them with a rope?" He started questioning how to stop the still running freshman.

"We don't care how, just do something! Anything!" Yuu, who was finally where you were standing, yelled to the boy.

"Ugh, I'll just go and catch him. What a hastle." You stood up while also pulling the boy up and started running after Ace. The trail of electro behind you continued growing as you sped after him.

"Anything?" The blue haired boy finally got an idea as he lifted his mage pen up. He was baffled by your quick running, but it also determined him to do something.

Grim was also staring in shock with Yuu at your running. They knew you were quick but geez.

"All right! Here goes anything! I summon thee, something heavy!" The boy with the spade yelled with a quick swing of his pen.

A large cauldron came falling from the sky. The heavy thing fell straight ontop of Ace's head. "Bwaaah?! Wha?! A pot?!" He yelled out in pain.

You stopped in your tracks right next to Ace, staring at the cauldron in pure shock. You looked at Yuu who was at the other end of the hallway. He looked just as shocked as you were.

Grim -unlike the rest of you- found the sight extremely funny and was jumping up and down in joy. "Ah ha ha ha! Look, Yuu, look! That Ace guy got crushed beneath a gaint cauldron! It squashed him like a bug! Aha ha ha! That's what you get."

"A cauldron?! I wasn't expecting that. I may have overdone it this time..." Yuu and the boy walked over to where you and Ace were. As you started to slowly try and get the pot off of the ginger's body.

"Owwwww. What are you bothering me for? You guys coulda just banged out the work yourself!" Suddenly the cauldron 'slipped' out of your hands, right back onto Ace's already hurting body.

"Oopsies. I slipped." 

"There's no "banging out" a hundred windows!" Yuu yelled with an angry tone. The boy with a heart on his cheek was just groaning on the floor at the pot being dropped on him a second time.

"You have to wash a hundred windows as punishment? What the heck did you do?!" The navy haired boy asked with wide eyes.

"I was just screwing with that furball a little." You glared at Ace for not telling the whole story. He squeeked a bit before continuing. "...Okay, and the statue of the Queen of Hearts got a teeny bit charred. Sue me."

"You damaged a statue of the Great Seven?! No wonder the headmage flew off the handle at you! After you managed to get into THIS school, how could you get in trouble on the very first day?!" The cyan eyed boy shook his head in disappointment.

Ace groaned while finally standing up. You had finally managed to push the cauldron off of him so he could stand up again. "Oh, shut up. Who are you, anyway?"

"My name is Deuce. Deuce Spade. Don't you remember your own classmate? Uh...?" Deuce introduced himself, but looked confused when forgetting Ace's name.

"You don't remember my name either, do you?" The ginger asked the bluenette.

"That's not the point! You shouldn't try to shrink an order from the headmage!"

"Deuce is right. What you did was extremely disrepectful to us and the headmage." You added to Deuce's words.

"Yeah, yeah, message received... Fine, let's bang out the windows already. Hm?" Ace stopped what he was saying and started looking around.

You and Yuu did aswell when you noticed a certain presence missing.

"Where's Grim?" Yuu asked after looking around a little.

"Don't tell me... I thought he was with you Yuu?" You chimed in again. Your ears drooped flat to your head as you sighed for the dozenth time today.

"The furball! He's gone!" Ace yelled before you all heard a voice coming from the other side of the widow.

"Ah ha ha ha! I'll let you three handle the rest! See ya suckers!" It was Grim. The cat was happily running down main street, away from where you were standing.

"You caught me so YOU could run away yourself?! Hey! You there! Uh.... Juice?"

"His name is Deuce, Ace." You corrected. You already started walking down the hall to catch up with the cat.

"Yeah! What she said! It's Deuce! With a D!"

"This is partially your responsibility, you know! So help me catch that little furball!" Ace yelled at the slightly taller boy.

"How is this my responsibility?!" Said boy yelled back.

"Grim's useless janitor friends can't use magic. That means this is up to you and me!"

You all started running after Grim. Ace and Deuce were ocasionally casting spells to catch the monster, but missed most of the times.

They were practically running circles around main street and you were getting bored of watching them struggle to catch the cat.

You were about to charge up your vision to head after him, but he soon ran back inside. The fact he did was making it a little to dangerous for you to do so.

"Let's just head after him. I believe he's heading for the cafeteria." You said before you all ran after him inside the big school building.

A/n: I love Ace but he always pisses me off so much with how stupid he is. Like boy just stfu and do what your told. Don't we all have that someone who just pisses you off for no reason? Anyways, was gonna try writing 2 chapters today but I was only able to write this one since I had a few irl issues. Sorry! o(TヘTo)
