"Why me?" I took a sip of my coffee. "You're one of their classmates, you know them more then anyone else." Juzo leaned on his desk. "What about Ryoto?" I continued asking. "He wasn't present in the classroom. Plus, he's a coward." Sakakura huffed. "Oh, right." I sighed. "Anyway, I'm sure that this job is perfect for you. Don't worry, I'm here if you need something." He kept his heavy hand on my shoulder. "Thanks for coffee." I finished the rest of the drink in one sip and kept the empty cup on the table. Standing up I walked out.
"Hey, (Your name)!" Ryoto ran towards me. "What?" I looked at my companion. "It's lunch, do you want to eat together?" He smiled. "Not hungry." I stated and walked away towards my office. Entering the small room I plopped on the chair and opened one cupboard. Taking out an empty notebook I written down the information I've got.
"Nagito killed the previous director of 15th department."
But why?
Nagito is not that dumb to kill a person who could have helped him. What if that person figured out the private info? Maybe I should read more of his reports. As I was about to keep the notebook back I dropped it on the floor.
Shit.
I bent down to pick it up and found something interesting. On the other side of the desk there was a notebook attached. Picking it up I read the title.
"My personal journal"
Look like it's my lucky day. Opening the notebook I started reading the contents. First note said:
4th / May / 20xx
Today is my first day in 15th division. I'm so excited! Firstly, I'm planning to install CCTV cameras around the city. It might help in figuring out the hideouts of remnants. Secondly, I will inspect the footage and try to find more clues on spot.
11 / May / 20xx
One week has passed since we established the CCTV cameras. Sadly, there's no progress. I'm currently reviewing the last record and can't find anything. But wait. . . There's this weird white haired guy who keeps roaming around the entrance gate of Towa town. I checked him in the database and yes! He's one of the remnants of despair. I must check the spot for any clues.
12 / May / 20xx
I spent the rest of the day outside in search of this weird guy. The only thing I found is a little sticky note on the camera. There's an address and time written on it. Maybe I should meet him.
24 / May / 20xx
I'm finally back! Those psycho kids kidnapped me and tried to weed out information off me. They blindfolded me, therefore I couldn't figure their location. Nagito Komaeda, or the "servant" was questioning me about one girl. (Your name) (Last name) to be precise. He asked me to keep a close eye on the girl or he will kill me. He also warned me to keep our "chit-chat" private. Maybe she is the key to the whole mystery?
1 / June / 20xx
I spied after the girl for almost a week now. She's just an average high schooler who tries to survive in this apocalyptic world. Today her house was attacked and Nagito contacted me asking for a safe place to stay. I recommended my old apartment. I wonder why does he care about her so much?
I skipped through some dates in search of more important info. Taking out a green highlighter I underlined few interesting dates.
11/ June / 20xx
(Your name) might be very useful in my research so I recommended her as a useful member of future foundation. Thankfully, Tengan-san agreed with my choice and took her in. To my luck she is strongly connected to the remnants of despair and can provide lots of important clues. But there's a problem, because of her connection she might be a threat to our foundation. So I suggested to place her as an intern for some time. Hope that she'll cooperate.
19 / July / 20xx
The old building of main course in Hope's peak academy finally opened, to reveal six survivors of the killing school life. Future foundation took all of them in and assigned them as the directors of different divisions. They all seem like nice people except the spectacle girl. She has this weird personality disorder. She was taken as an intern but ran away on the first day. We don't know her current location.
27 / August / 20xx
Looks like she's no threat at all. I wanted to talk to her today but got a text message from the "Servant". He asks me to stay away from her. It's hard for me to understand his motives. It was his idea for me to look after her, but now I'm not allowed to talk?!
10 / Oct / 20xx
My phone got tracked and Kyosuke found my conversation with Nagito. I was sent to questioning room in order to get things straight. I reassured the interrogator that it's my method of work, to develop a friendly connection with remnant and snoop out some important info. They let me go.
31 / Dec / 20xx
I found two more remnants, to my dismay they don't want to cooperate. They were also searching for (Your name) and agreed to answer my questions if I hand them the girl. I declined the offer.
4 / Jan / 20xx
I decided to check the now free Hope's peak academy. The new main course building was heavily damaged from fire so I couldn't enter most of the building. In the class 77-B I found an old torn notebook. It contained some burnt photographs, interesting quotes and lists. Most of the information is missing due to severe burnts, but photographs clearly show the remnants of despair. One more peculiar detail, on one of the photos there was (Your name) along with others. There are no more clues that I could find.
16 / Jan / 20xx
Me and Nagito came to an agreement, I must give weekly reports on (Your name) while he will provide me with useful information. I agreed, to me, he's the most sane remnant of all. He gave me a secure method of conversation, a special phone that is very hard to track. I hid it behind the sofa in my office.
After reading this I quickly made my way to the corner of the room. I pushed the sofa off the wall to find an old looking phone taped to the back of it. I removed the phone and tried to turn it on. No use, out of battery. Might need to find a charger for it. Keeping the phone in my pocket I placed sofa back and sat down on the chair to continue inspecting the notes.
29 / Jan / 20xx
Nagito gave out the position of Ibuki and Hiyoko. They're hiding in one of the central recording rooms. I went there to find them missing. Perhaps I should visit again some time later.
8 / Feb / 20xx
New information from servant, Fuyuhiko, Peko along with Akane and Nekomaru are planning to strike 6th division while they're on the mission. I asked Nagito that why does he gives out their plans. His reply was quite shocking. He said that (Your name) is assigned in the 6th division, therefore her life might be at risk. I warned Juzo about the upcoming danger. But, how does he know about her assigned place?
19 / March / 20xx
I'm quite suspicious of Ryoto and (Your name). Somehow, Nagito knows almost everything about them. Their plans, motives, assignments. I ordered my people to check their belongings and rooms for any suspicious objects. No cameras or secret bugs were found. Seems like they're oblivious too about anything that is going on.
4 / April / 20xx
My CCTV camera system stopped working. The last thing it recorded was some dark silhouette breaking down the device. I lighted up the recording to see that it was work of one remnant, Kazuichi. I don't have enough time to place new cameras so I'll leave things as they are.
18 / April / 20xx
Byakuya Togami went to his new mission to Towa town, but didn't returned. We were about to send our troops after him but he returned as suddenly as dissappeared. He stated that the servant was using him as a bait for Toko Fukawa. I tried asking Nagito about the bait plan, but he denied. The only thing he said was "its for the sake of everyone's hope." Weird.
22 / July / 20xx
Nagito called me for some urgent meeting, I have a bad feeling about this. Nevertheless I'm willing to risk and go there.
I finished reading the notes. It's doesn't contain much useful information but I must check few things. At first I must find a charger for this old phone, then I must take a look at Hope's peak and recording room. I also might want to read some old chats between this guy and Nagito. I hid the notebook back under the desk and went out of my office. I need to check Hope's peak right now.
Entering the elevator I pressed the parking lot button. As I arrived at the vast underground floor I made my way to the counter. "(Your name) (Last name), 6th division." I stated to the old man sitting behind the said counter. Without any further questions he handed me the keys. "Drive safe." He smiled and continued reading his newspaper.
Walking to my jeep I opened the door and started the engine. Not wanting to waste any time I drove off to the Hope's peak. On my way I noticed few shops with electronic devices and parts for repair. Stopping next to one of them I walked in searching for the charger.
That's then I heard some shuffling noise coming from the back door. I took out my gun and walked towards the noise. Kicking open the door I pointed my gun at the dark silhouette. "Hands up!" I yelled. "Wha-?" I heard a familiar voice say. "Kazuichi?!" I lowered the gun. "(Your name)! Long time no see. . ." He grinned with his sharp teeth. "What are you doing here?" I asked. "What are *you* doing here?" He shot back. "Ugh. How about a deal. I will keep quiet if you'll help me out." I placed my gun back into the belt. "Why shall I help you?" He grimaced. "Because I can arrest you on the spot and give your petty ass to the future foundation. Who knows how they'll torture you." I grinned smugly. "You won't!" Soda shouted.
"Oh really?" I quickly pinned him to the wall and pressed the gun to his head. "We might've been classmates before, but right now I won't hesitate to blow your brains out." I tried to sound intimidating. "Shit, fine!" He mumbled. "What do you want?" I let him go. "Charger for this thing." I took out the phone. "That phone. . . Are you. . ?" His eyes widened in shock. "Director of 15th division, right. So you made this device?" I nodded. "Yeah, Nagito asked me to." He took the phone from my hand and examined it.
"The charger must be somewhere here." Kazuichi threw the phone into my hands as he began rummaging through different boxes. "Here." He handed me a black charger.
"By the way, is it true that you plan to stop us peacefully?" He scoffed. "Despite my current condition yes, it's my job to find a peaceful solution to our problem." I sighed. "You really think that you can stop despair?! HAHAHAHAHAHA!" He started laughing maniacly. "It's impossible to stop despair. It was, is and will be the part of our lives, so is hope." I said. "Nagito was right about you. You really *are* an interesting person!" Soda laughed again. "About him, where is Komaeda?" I asked. "No idea." He shrugged and smiled.
"One last question. What happened to the previous director of 15th division?" I hoped that Juzo lied and Nagito didn't killed the poor guy. "You don't know? Nagito used him for his plan." Kazuichi said. "What plan?" I pressed on. "Now that's second question! You said that was your last!" Soda chuckled. "Damn you." I spat and walked away. "Hey, hey hey! Not fair! You must answer my question too!" Soda gripped my hand. "What?" I turned towards the remnant. "What will happen to us if you'll fail to find peaceful solution?" He asked his voice dead serious. "What do you think?" I turned away.
"They will kill us, right?" He asked grimly. "I'll make sure that won't happen." I sighed as he released my hand. "Well, good luck then." Kazuichi grinned before disappearing into the darkness.
