"No one can make tea like Uncle. But hopefully I learned a thing or two." Zuko said while making everyone tea.
"Would you like to hear Uncle's favorite tea joke?" Zuko asked.
"Sure."
"I like jokes."
"Bring it!"
"Okay, well, I can't remember how it starts, but the punchline is. "Leaf me aloneβI'm bushed!"
We were so silent that we could hear the crickets croaking.
"Well, it's funnier when Uncle tells it."
"Right," Katara says. "Maybe that's because he remembers the whole thing."
We all laughed, except someone in particular, who was always up for jokes.
I turned around and noticed my boyfriend sitting alone far away from everyone else.
I crawled over to him and rested my head on his lap.
"You okay babe?"
Sokka smiles down at me. "Yeah."
Oh, I knew this kid was lying. But ima let it slide. For now.
Zuko walked over to us with his tea.
"Hey, can I talk to you for a second?" Sokka asked Zuko.
Oh no.
I lifted my head off, Sokka's lap and walked over to Aang.
After they returned, Zuko had pulled me aside and told me Sokka was planning something.
The same night everyone was asleep. Well except for Zuko and I, we were sitting on top of Appa's saddle waiting for Sokka.
"Not up to anything, huh?"
"Heya, babe."
"Aah!" Sokka screamed falling off Appa.
Zuko and I peeked at the edge of the saddle.
"Soul," Sokka says. "What are you doing here? I- you were just in bed. I-I gave you a kiss goodbye."
"A Spirit never reveals her secrets."
Zuko groaned.
"Okay," Sokka mumbles. "You caught me. I'm gonna rescue my dad. You happy now?"
"I'm never happy."
He was pretty happy when we were fΓΌΔkΓ―ng, but I'm not gonna say that out loud. Sokka would throw a fit.
"Look, I have to do this. The invasion plan was my idea. It was my decision to stay when things were going wrong. It's my mistake, and it's my job to fix it. I have to regain my honor. You can't stop me, Zuko."
"You need to regain your honor?" Zuko asked. "Believe me, I get it. I'm going with you."
"Me too." I cheer.
"No!" Sokka says. "Soul, this is too dangerous, I have to do this alone."
"PLSS. Dangerous is my middle name. Have you forgotten who I am? The Sun Spirit."
The boys completely ignored me.
"How are you going to get there?" Zuko asked. "On Appa? Last time I checked, prisons don't have bison daycares."
Sokka sighed.
"We'll take my war balloon."
"I'm still coming, right?" I ask.
"Let's go." Sokka says jumping off Appa and grabbing my hand as we follow Zuko.
The next morning, we had token the war balloon. Zuko had left a note saying that we had gone fishing and that Aang should practice his firebending.
We sat in awkward silence.
Sokka sat in the little chair, while I sat on his lap.
Zuko glanced at us. Sokka and I both looked away.
Sokka finally decided to make some small talk.
"Pretty clouds."
"Yeah." Zuko responds. "Fluffy."
The awkward silence continued so Sokka started whistling.
"What?"
"What?" Sokka said. "Oh, I didn't say anything. You know, a friend of mine actually designed these war balloons."
"No, kidding." Zuko said.
"Yup. A balloon, but for war."
I rested my head on Sokka's shoulder as I spaced out a bit.
"What, you didn't leave behind someone you cared about?"
"Well," Zuko says. "I did have a girlfriend, Mai."
"That gloomy girl who sighs a lot?"
"Yeah." Zuko grins.
"My first girlfriend turned into the moon."
I lifted my head off Sokka's shoulder. "You guys didn't even date."
Zuko looked up at the sky. "That's rough, buddy."
Sokka pouted.
Sokka and I were sleeping while Zuko was on the look out.
"There it is."
Sokka quickly got up. "Huh? Huh?"
"Owe." I whine as I fell of his lap.
The large clouds of steam emit from the boiling volcano lake surrounding the prison. Because of the steam, it made the air outside the balloon warmer than the air inside it, the balloon crash-lands on the beach outside the prison walls.
Sokka dumped the remains of the balloon into the boiling lake so it wouldn't be found.
"I hope you know what you're doing. There's no turning back now."
"You think their uniforms are cute?" I ask.
*ΰ³ΰΌ *ΰ³ΰΌ *ΰ³ΰΌ
"I hope these disguises work." Zuko says.
"We just need to lay low and find my dad as soon as possible. Wait! Where's Soul?"
"Right, here," I mumble. "These uniforms are hideous."
"This isn't a catwalk." Zuko scolds.
"Guards!" Someone yells. "There's a scuffle in the yard. Come on!"
We pushed past the prisoners who were gathered around in a circle.
"I didn't do anything," the prisoner says. "I'm going back to my cell."
The male guard created a fire whip. "Stop right there, Chit Sang! I've had it with your unruly behavior." Ppft plsss, I'm editing rn and I read his name sh!t Sang
"What did I do?" Chit asked.
"He wants to know what he did. Isn't that cute?" The guard asked Sokka, Zuko, and I.
"Uh, very cute, sir."
"Super cute."
"Really cute."
The guard makes a whip of fire and lashes out at the prisoner while his back was turned and Chit Sang firebended to defend himself.
"Firebending is prohibited. You're goin' in the cooler."
My body shivers. The cooler.
"You!" The male guard points to Sokka. "Help me take him in."
"Meet back here in an hour." Sokka said to Zuko and I.
Zuko and I walked into the lounge.
"Do they not have salad." I scoff.
"Ha ha! Hey, new kids! I know it's the rule to have your helmet on at all times, but this is the lounge," a guard says. "Relax!"
I shrugged my shoulders and took off my helmet. Nobody was gonna recognized the Northern Water Tribe Princess right?
Zuko was however hesitant. He was the Prince of the Fire Nation. He was more recognized in this place.
"But what if there's an incident? If I'm not prepared, someone could strike me on the head."
The guards laughed.
"Give it a week," the female guard laughs. "He'll loosen up."
Zuko and I sat at their table.
"Can the new guy ask you veterans a few questions about the prison?"
"No," the female guard says. "You can't date the female guards."
"Trust me," the male guard says. "You don't want to. But Princess over here. I'd make an exception."
"I have a boyfriend."
"Well he's not here. Is he?"
I shudder. "Actually, he's my boyfriend." I say clinging my arm onto Zuko.
"Eh, yeah. The Boiling Rock," Zuko says. "It holds the Fire Nation's most dangerous criminals, right?"
The guards nod.
"So what about war prisoners?" I ask.
Zuko and I meet up with Sokka.
"Hey, there, fellow guard." I say.
"How goes it?" Zuko adds on.
"Soul? Zuko?" Sokka yells.
"Shh! Listen, we asked around the lounge. There are no Water Tribe prisoners. I'm afraid your fathers not here."
"What? Are you sure? Did you double check?"
"Yeah," Zuko replies. "I'm sure."
"No. No!" Sokka grunts.
"I'm really sorry, Sokka." I say.
"So we came all this way for nothing? I failed....again."
I wrap my arms around his waist. He hums into my hair.
"Ah, what would Uncle say? Sometimes clouds have two sides, a dark and light, and a silver lining in between."
I pull away from the hug. "What is he rambling about?"
Sokka shrugs walking to the edge of the balcony.
Sokka's face lit up. "Maybe we haven't failed after all!"
"That's the spirit!" Zuko says. "I can't believe that worked. I didn't even know what I was saying."
"Oh, baby, no. What you said made no sense at all." I exclaim.
"Yeah," Sokka agrees. "But look! It's Suki!"
My Spirits, this girl again?
I looked down to see Suki sitting on a rock.
"Prisoners!" The male guard yells. "Back in your cells!"
"You better wipe that smirk off your face," I slap Sokka. "If I find out any funny business happened in that cell. You gon get it."
"I love you." Sokka says quickly kissing me and running off.
"This is what I have to deal with." I mumble.
Zuko and I were standing in front of Suki's cell. I'd be glancing in there every two seconds to see what was going on.
I pressed my ear against the door, trying to hear their conversation.
"What is taking them so long." I mutter.
I banged on the door. "Hurry up in there."
Zuko also knocked on the door as he saw a guard approaching our way.
"Excuse me," the female guard says. "I need to get into that cell."
I slowly scooted away from the door. Sokka quickly walked out the cell, close behind me.
"Guards help! I think he's an imposter!"
Sokka and I turned around to see Zuko wrestling the female guard. "Arrest him!" She yelled.
Sokka and I looked at each other and eventually tackled Zuko to the ground.
"Sorry." I whisper in Zuko's ear.
"Don't worry," Sokka says. "We'll figure it out."
The Warden took Zuko from us, leaving just Sokka and I.
"So, what were you two talking about?" I ask.
"I was just telling her about the plan and my dad."
"Oh, so she's coming with us?" I scoff.
"Yeah, why wouldn't she? You want her to stay here?"
"I mean I wouldn't mind," I mumble. "Just admit you like her."
"Soul, I don't. Why are you being crazy?"
"Crazy," I scoffed. "You're the one who is being crazy."
Aww, their first fight as a coupleπ₯Ί
"Are you jealous?" Sokka smirked. "Cause that's kinda hot."
I faced the other way. "Okay, maybe I'm a tad jealous. She actually seems like a pretty cool chick, but you two are way too close. I feel like you don't like me anymore."
Sokka wraps his arms around me from behind and kisses my neck.
"She's just a friend. I promise."
I turn around, now facing him. "Promise."
"Promise."
"Seal it with a kiss." We connect our pinky and kiss our thumb.
"Be nice." Sokka warns.
"I'm not making any promises."
Later, Sokka and I walked down the steps to see Zuko and Suki doing mopping duty together.
"Oh, good," Sokka says. "You guys have met."
"Actually," Suki says. "We met a long time ago."
"We did?" Zuko asked.
"Yeah, you kinda burned down my village."
I tried to keep in my laugh.
Zuko paused. "Oh, sorry about that. Nice to see you again."
Sokka started to tell them the escape plan, when the prisoner from earlier overheard our plan and invited himself in as well.
The plan was to use the cooler to ride our way out like a boat. First someone had to unscrew the cooler free. Zuko and Chit had a "fight" which Zuko firebended and caused him to go in the cooler.
Half an hour later, Sokka opened the cooler. "I can take you back to your cell if you've learned your lesson."
I popped my head in the cooler.
Zuko was in a squatting position. He let out a breath of fire and smirked. "Yes, I have completely."
So I'm 34 weeks today π€°π½
I smirked. Mhm, I might have to reconsider my relationship with Sokka.
That night, they brought the loose cooler cell, and Chit Sang brought his girlfriend and best friend to the escape.
Sokka, knowing that the new arrivals would be coming soon decided that we should stay for an extra day.
"Not me," Chit said. "I'm out. Let's roll, baby."
This is one of my favorites linesππ
"We gave up our only chances of escaping," Sokka says. "I hope we haven't just made a huge mistake."
Chit and his friends eventually got caught.
"Thank Spirits, we didn't go." I mutter.
Suki giggled.
It's not that funny sis I thought. But Sokka said I had to be nice so I gave her a little smile.
"This is it." Sokka said as the last lift for the new prisoners arrived.
"If my dad's not there, we risked everything for nothing."
"We had to." I say grabbing Sokka's hand and intertwining our fingers.
"Come on, come on!"
"Is that him?" Zuko asked as a buff man with a nose piercing walked out.
"My dad doesn't have a nose ring."
We watched as the new arrivals passed by but no Hakoda.
"That's it? That can't be it."
"I'm sorry, Sokka." Suki says.
"Oh no!" Sokka says.
Don't worry Sokka, I'll give you that gawk gawk 3000 to make you feel better. PLSSS. Someone take my phone awayπ
"Hey, you!" The male guard yells. "Get off the gondola!"
Out walked Hakoda.
"Dad."
Daddy Hakoda.
